3.5 stars - there’s now zero question that this is the strongest of Nikki Asada’s series for me. It helps that it’s less about ‘will they get together’ and more about ‘how are they going to make it work’, which is enough of a change from the usual that I can appreciate the subtle adjustment in tone that it brings.

Further, one of the nicest things about this series is that even though Asahi is in the ‘dumb class’, Yokaze ardently defends her and sees the value in her insight and help. I’m not huge on the smart/dumb class divisions and this helps smooth that down.

It also doesn’t hurt that that’s kind of gone by the wayside as the series progresses - I noticed with Heart Break Club that as the series went on the premise just kind of evaporated and no difference with what’s happening here. There are also way fewer side characters than I think there should be, but fortunately the leads carry this series pretty well.

Sho comes out as the rival, shocking nobody, but he’s sidelined by Asahi pretty hard - heroines who know what they want rock. I continue to feel like the RA has rival potential, but he now seems content to just be a massive buzzkill (we actually get a good chunk of backstory on that, culminating in a sweet interlude with Asahi and Yokaze toward the end).

This is a good, solid series. It’s not winning awards for originality, but it has the basics of what I want from something like this down to a tee.

This really is an interesting story.

I'm really enjoying this series. Such interesting characters. I really feel for the young couple. If anyone even remotely thought they were an item, it would spell doom for both of them. Such is young love. Bittersweet, to be sure. That RA is kind of a jerk, but at least we now know partly why he does what he does. Art, excellent. Dialogue, very good. Characters, believable, likeable, relatable.

Pretty cliche and shallow story. The relationship with yokaze doesn’t feel authentic, so it’s hard to care about their pairing. In the other hand, Sho is just an idiot for not letting her know all these years.
