Bill Gunston was a British aviation and military author. He flew with Britain's Royal Air Force from 1945 to 1948, and after pilot training became a flying instructor. He spent most of his adult life doing research and writing on aircraft and aviation. He was the author of over 350 books and articles. His work included many books published by Salamander Books.
I've read a lot of these "worst plane ever" books and they all seem to draw from the same well of unsuitable designs, usually made before anyone could be expected to know they *were* unsuitable. This book is no exception, but Gunston is at least witty and articulate when he dunks on the usual litany of bad airplanes and engineers.
Pithy and amusing stories of aircraft that were unfortunate, poorly conceived, or downright dangerous as told by an experienced aviation writer and pilot with firsthand access to many of the test pilots involved
Another excellent Gunston book. I've read many, and probably read this years ago, but when I saw it at a discount book store I snatched it up. Many interesting and amusing and tragic stories about planes from WW1 to the '90s. A bit biased towards British planes, but many others included.
