"Top-notch nonfiction from a profoundly accomplished creator, it's the sort of book that could ignite lifelong scientific curiosity." - Guardian
I thought this was a fun idea and it was executed well. The questions have a great range, the tone of the answers is thoughtful and fun, and the length is perfect for a bedtime snippet. This is a sweet bedtime book/conversation starter book. I could see it being a great Morning Meeting text in my classroom or for closing routines at the end of the school day, too. It has a lot of potential uses and that is such a win!
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Super fascinating book of questions for the curious mind. I like how this talks about how science is about asking questions, and not always fully understanding the answers, and understanding that the answers may change as we learn more.
Also: did you know we don't actually know how airplanes stay in the air???? There are two theories, but neither completely explains it. Wild.
It would be a great bedtime book, and the format also lends itself well to booktalks and school visits. I will definitely be recommending this to kids and families in the library, and think adults who like nonfiction or science in very bite-sized chunks would enjoy it as well.
This was so fun to read with my kiddos for their bedtime stories! Yes, it took longer to get through the book than normal because extra conversations were had every few sentences, but it helped answer a few questions that my kids had actually asked me at bedtime before, that I didn't know the answers to! I'm curious to know if "... Impossible Questions" by the same author is a whole new set of questions or just a slightly different title with the same content (like Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone).
I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.
It is a very fun book that answers many "why" questions children have. My only really complained, although it's more of an observation, why does this book have bedtime in the title. These answers serve as great conversation starters and also great sleep avoidance fodder. Much better in the morning of lunchtime.
Read this to my curious kiddo and she loved learning the answers to these questions. Not all of them, but ashe put up with the "boring" questions so she could make it through the interesting one. I'd highly recommend this for any curious kiddos
