Lovely Roxana, brilliant Roxana . . . a disgrace to her distinguished family. For Roxana was defying her formidable father, the Honorable Supreme court Justice Van Buren, and striking out on her own for the wild Southwest. Intent on the scandalous profession of newspaper reporter, she was determined to do the impossible -- interview the infamous Mexican revolutionary, Pancho Villa.
I am dancing on sunshine that you are visiting my little part of Parris's paradise here on Goodreads.
I write for the reckless at heart Not surprisingly, I identify with my novels' characters, both the protagonists AND antagonists. I suffer with their angsts and bewilderments and rejoice in their joys and triumphs.
And I believe that if we heroically hold fast to our own vision for ourselves in our journey’s confrontations and challenges, Life WILL surely manifest our dreams and goals and visions, as it does for my characters in my novels.

Exciting Love Story set in a time of revolution in Pancho Villa’s Mexico
Set in 1916 in Washington, D.C., Texas and Mexico, this is the story of Roxana Van Buren, who, though born to an aristocratic family, wants to become a journalist. And it’s the story of Sam Brady, who wanted to be a general and earn the right to marry Roxana’s sister, Rowena. He did well at West Point and as a young officer, that is, until an unfortunate incident resulted in his being dishonorably discharged for conduct unbecoming an officer.
After the debacle of his failed military career, Sam forgot his dreams and headed to Texas where he became an Army scout. Roxana headed west, too, trying to prove herself as a cub reporter. She hoped to gain an interview with the revolutionary Pancho Villa, but there was much competition from reporters gathering to report on Mexico’s insurgency.
And who does Roxana hire to escort her when General Pershing decides to invade Mexico to hunt Pancho Villa? Sam Brady, of course. And he takes the job because he is going that way, scouting for the general’s forces, and Sam needs the money for a ranch he wants to buy.
Together, Roxana and Sam take on the Mexican desert and the rebel army.
This is a well-written tale of adventure and reluctant love set in a time of revolution in a foreign land. Bonds brings you right into that time, and you see the beauty of the Sierra Madre mountains, the Mexican desert with its blowing sands, heat, and vicious Indians and revolutionaries, and the meager rations of an army on the move. Some historic figures are characters, including General Pershing and Lt. George Patton, both of whom would become war heroes in the years to follow.
Sam wanted the sweet, manipulating Rowena, but what a man like Sam—a leader of men—really needed was a woman like Roxana. You’ll love this story, I promise!
As hard as I tried, I could not stay with this book. I kept going back in and seeing if I'd get hooked on the next chapter, and I've read 56% of the book, so I think I have given it a good chance. Normally, I read about two or three chapters, and I'm hooked, but this one just didn't do that for me.
This is another of Parris Afton Bonds' great historical romance fiction books. She did her research, as usual, and write this amazingly action-packed adventure about a lady journalist attempting to get an interview with infamous Pancho Ville during the Mexican Revolution. The characters are well defined. The location descriptions are very well described. The plot is exciting, fun, romantic and suspenseful. This one I definitely highly recommend.
I chose this title because in more ways than one this novel took you to some of the hottest places on earth and also the love scenes were steamy. There is violence against woman which is true to the period of time. I think this not for all readers because of that. The historical part is interesting and the characters are well developed. A woman named Roxy, in a man's world for sure, through the Mexican Revolution was trying to prove herself as a great reporter for the newspaper, when by happenstance she meets up with "Sam" her sister's ex-fiancé. She hires him to help find a young woman who is a high appointed associate to Poncho Villia. Her ultimate dream is to get a interview with Villia.
I would rate this 2.5 if possible. I appreciate the historical research and accuracy in this novel. And the story is interesting with plot twists and turns that kept me reading. I just wish it had been penned by a better wordsmith.
