Zane Bennington. He was the guy who'd been making my life miserable for weeks. He was a prick. An asshole. A stone-cold ruthless bastard with no redeeming qualities whatsoever – well, except for his face. And his body. And yeah, maybe his massive fortune.
But other than that, the guy had zero going for him.
The only upside? He despised me as much as I despised him. Or so I thought…
Positively Pricked is an all-new standalone contemporary romance from USA Today Bestselling Author Sabrina Stark.
If an OTT manwhore with ruthless and unapologetic attitude, who can’t keep it his pants even after meeting the heroine, is not your trigger(s), you will probably enjoy the hell out of this book.
It was cool written, well-passed and partly funny!
If this was 2013 I would have given it 5 stars, because in 2013 I had zero taste in books. That year was cheaters and manwhores galore and I didn’t have any standards. Well now I do and this shit doesn’t fly with me anymore.
On top of emotional whiplash this book gave me, it also had excessive amounts of slut shaming and women bashing. Ladies, what is more attractive in a guy when you see him slut shame another woman right in front of you, amiright? I thought we were passed writing these awful tropes?
The heroine; I couldn’t even remember the characters name midway through the book. She lost any respect I had for her when she lets the hero fire her so he can sleep with her.
I could say so much more, but my friend Alex has a much better review than I. So I’ll leave you with my favorite paragraph from this book. It’s where the author acknowledges the hero wasn’t celibate for the heroine and gives him a shit excuse for being s shitty person:
“In spite of my confusion, I was stupidly pleased – until I recalled the parade of models and actresses he'd been dating from day-one. If he'd been so interested in me, he wouldn't have been with any of them, much less all of them. "I don't get it," I said, "if you were interested in me at all, why were you so awful?" And why were you screwing other girls? "I told you why," he said. "It was because I didn't want you to like me.”
End scene.
Side note I totally forgot i had previously read a different book by thus author YEARS ago. The only thing I remember from it was the hero had TWO GIRLFRIENDS when he meets the heroine. Two. Because one just isn’t enough.
Updated. Originally I wrote my review at 85% or so and was loving it, but then we get confirmation of H's cheating and I was not so fond of this author anymore. That should teach me a lesson to never write reviews without getting to the end! So my review has been edited & deleted from 5 to 3 because I can no longer recommend it. I steered some fellow reviewers wrong on this one because it is definitely not safe. I kind of liked Hero up until the portion we get confirmation that he is cheating on heroine - even if they were not together.
Jane and Zane meet under less than positive circumstances. Other than having practically the exact same name, Zane and Jane have nothing in common. She’s a lowly catering assistant with a heart of gold, and Zane is an arrogant billionaire that seemingly takes pride in his heartless ways. So it’s no surprise that Jane manages to lose her job shortly after working at one of Zane’s parties and he’s the one behind it. After a confrontation or two, Jane finally has an interview; unfortunately it’s at one of Zane’s hotels. Expecting to speak with an HR rep or kitchen manager, Jane’s shocked when she’s sent to Zane’s office and immediately offered a position as his personal PR manager.
I speed read the first 30% of the book since the hero was so off-putting and his manwhore history was brought up by every female the heroine spoke to. At that point I slowed down since the hero and heroine were finally going to be spending a lot of time together. And they did, but it was purely as employee/employer. It took until the
He had his cake and ate it too.
I liked Jane. She stood up to Zane and didn’t bow to him simply because he was rich and hot. She should’ve made him grovel more for his treatment of her, though. Zane was a prick, but he was sometimes sweet to Jane and by the end of the book
I’m sure plenty of readers will love this book, because it is well written and edited, but the hero and heroine didn’t spend enough time together for me.

2 Mute stars.... this book has potential to me Like the first 20%
The missing point is I wish there more stories or there POV from H Because I feel like from beginning I keep on hanging reading the book since I want to know more about Zane, of the “ surprising “ rude attitude and short sentence he throw if there’s any chance
Jane was pretty funny character but what annoyed the hell of me , she can be a little bold to H but to the shitty roommate she just being too nice, after all this Peasly character is annoyed and anger the hell out me
Another character who got more than enough portion without any point at all rather than just insult the whole out of h is Tiffany, talk about those shitty gold diggers
And at 70% of book then the h finally got cue of H feeling cue to heated scene and rush out to their trip back from New York to find h place wreck .... so the h stay with H the final accident and bring them to finally admitting love each other
And what makes me so mad at the end about this book that the annoying character get happy ending in this case Peasly with the sucky judgemental and drunken teddy, Ok they find each other but hellowww that girl typically wrong by sleeping with someone husband and still behave so bad time after times to h It just suck
COPY RECEIVED FOR HONEST REVIEW I loved this book, the characters and the writing. Zane will have to grow on most people. He is intense and extremely rude. there are some things that people will get offended by but I have read worse. Jane was too nice in some scenes. Her roommate situation was annoying. However, I enjoyed the book. The story had me at the opening scene. There were some laughs along the way. I enjoyed the banter. I actually enjoyed the characters. Again many people will not like Zane, but the thing is, he is who he is without apology. Everyone knew that going in so when he is rude to people, I find it hard to believe that they are surprised. Now, in some cases he could have toned it down, but he didn't. Underneath all that, you will find a loyal person who takes care of those he loved. Maybe not in the ways you want, but the results was the same. Jane was very sweet almost to the point of being taken advantage of. Zane is so overbearing that at times it makes her look weak. She does have a backbone and she is a strong individual. Again I liked the book but it is not for everyone.
If you are looking for romance, the H and h here, hate each other. Not so much as a kiss till the 75% point. That’s chapter 51, if you’re counting. Then they finally have sex (that’s about all you can call it) around chapter 52-53. Then, back to being enemies. Now, at the 88% point, I have had as much of this ‘romance’ as I can take. The H and the h, are both so unlikable, I don’t care how the thing works out for them, or even if it does. I kept reading, thinking it had to get better eventually. Spoiler alert-it doesn’t. This is definitely not a book I would ever recommend to anybody.
Yay, a new book from Sabrina Stark. Obviously I dived straight in! Zane Bennington is somewhat of a mystery, he arrives as though from nowhere to continue his grandfather's legacy. The heir to a huge hotel business he has no time for fools and thieves. Whilst cleaning house, he collects more than his fair share of enemies. Jane, is a young woman who he meets whilst she works a catered event in his honor. This is not a meeting of hearts and minds. Jane inadvertently draws his wrath and believes he gets her fired. Not one to allow a slight to be unanswered, she confronts Zach and ends up working for him. What follows is a somewhat madcap, snarky adventure between the pair. As usual, this is only from Jane's pov which offers a complete picture of who she is and what she does. However, I wish we could have been offered a glimpse into everything Zach was thinking and feeling. As much as I liked Jane, I felt she was very naive and wanted her to get a clue way quicker than she did. Ultimately, I appreciated her decency and kindness. It acts as a balm to Zach's abrasive nature. The secondary characters add much to the story and I'd love to read their stories too (hint😏) This is a sweet, funny read from Sabrina. Can't wait for more.
*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one elses*
3.5-4 stars
I have to admit, I was a little worried after reading the reviews but I’m glad I gave the book a chance because I actually enjoyed it.
I loved the author’s writing style - it was engaging and entertaining.
I adored Jane - she was sweet and witty whereas, Zane well let’s just say that Jane summed him up in some very colourful language lol.
The romance element was kind of small and I can’t really say it was slow burn either. The chemistry was there in the background but Zane’s persona made it difficult to get a good sense of the spark between the two.
Both characters were strong individually, but I genuinely felt that Zane’s character was overbearing. He was intense yet mysterious and his overall demeanour made it difficult to like or connect to him. It would have been insightful if the author gave Zane’s POV - I struggled to understand him right to the very end.
There were several funny moments and some characters that annoyed the hell out of me e.g. Paisley and her lumberjack boyfriend.
Overall, this was a fun read but I was left wanting to see more of the fun, caring and laid back Zane that we get to see towards the end.
In light of recent events, my first thought when reading the title, there's a word waiting to be trademarked! But I'm getting sidetracked.
Unbelonging is one of my favorites and Stark heads back to her first novel for inspiration with Positively Pricked. Heroine down on her luck and only getting in worse. Hero who's recently come into his wealth and completely an ass to everyone. Throw in witty repertoire, lots of back and forth zingers, not sure I like you or not. But the hero is so very persuasive. A few bad guys hysterically funny in their stupidity and badness. Yep. Stark does it really well. She is particularly good at writing awkward, unbelievable, how did they get themselves into it scenarios that have you giggling to yourself.
Minor grammar issues. I thought she rushed through Jane and Zane developing their working relationship, I would've liked to read more of that play out. And why did their names rhyme?
I really enjoyed it. It was hysterical in a lot of ways. I liked some of the twists in it as well. I did get a little tired of how intense Zane was. I mean he had almost no levels of being nice, even when he was telling Jane how he really felt about her.
And that leads me to Jane. Who lets everyone walk all over them like that? I mean everyone. There is a problem with being too nice. She needed a backbone when it came to other people. I mean she would tell Zane off in some ways, but that horrible roommate of hers would have been minced meat if it were me.
Anyway... I know it looks like I'm saying all the bad things, but then I still gave it a four star. Any book that can make me laugh and almost be in tears deserves a little extra boost.
It did make me want to read something else by this author to see if this was just a fluke or if I might like a new author.
Wasn’t sure how Zane Bennington would compare to Lawton Rastor and the Bishop brothers, but happily surprised. Zane has been the most mysterious of the heroes so far. Knew he had his motives, but not what those motives were until the end. Book held my interest throughout and I finished in one day since I couldn’t put it down. Book stayed true to Ms. Stark’s others in that there was the funny and awkward supporting characters. Haven’t been let down yet by this author.
He's the guy that everyone loves to hate. She's the woman that can't seem to catch a break. In a relationship that idles at difficult, it's tough to decide who holds the winning hand. Sabrina Stark may have dreamed up one the most frustratingly complicated heroes I've come across. Zane is rude and opinionated, but he can be endearingly sweet. Jane loves to hate on the bad boy with attitude, until she finally sees the man behind the brutally honest facade. Ironic humor and fiery attraction singe the pages of Positively Pricked.
Sabrina Stark writes witty banter like no other author. Her books always make be both laugh out loud and think OMG that’s happening. Jane and Zane are amazingly funny from beginning to end. I made the mistake of reading the first chapter before bed and couldn’t stop reading until I finished the entire book. I had to see what Zane was going to do next and just how Jane was going to try to smooth it over.
Zane and his constant use of 'fu¢k off' was hilarious. Jane was the perfect match for him in every way. Some of her internal ramblings were so funny. As for how she stood up to Zane, it all made me love her character. Not only were Zane and Jane funny, but the support characters, were just as good. Paisley had to be my favourite though. I love a good light-hearted story, and this one was perfect.
Ehhhhh. The couple didnt spend nearly enough time together for me to feel this insta love for the Hero. And he said he was in love with her from the first moment but was banging chicks the whole time and then bringing one of them in front of the Heroine which then said other woman keeps talking about how good the Hero was the night before. I mean...how tacky on the Hero's part...ew
I was struggling how to rate this one. On one level, the writing & characters (both main & supporting) are truly awesome! We have a strong & witty heroine, a "prick", manwhore & asswhole Hero who is mega HOT and really lovable once he starts to unravel (sort of).
There are many parts that I liked and many that I didn't. So lets start with what I didn't like...... From the moment Hero & heroine meet until about 80% or so in, there are many sparks between our couple but there is no romance at all or bonding so while we learn about the heroine since it is in her own POV only, we know nothing about the Hero - especially whether or not he is even attracted to the heroine since he never shows it! This is especially true since after Hero meets the heroine, he sleeps around a lot with OW. He is very unapologetic about this to heroine when she later on asks (after he told her that he was attracted to her from the start & had strong feelings for her). He even tells her that he had some really fun times with these women! That ticked me off big time because I was enjoying the story up until then and wished authors would stop with this theme. It was so unnecessary to the plot and ruined a 5 star read!
Also, since the romance was so late in the story, it felt rushed and really not very believable.
The good part? The writing & plot is really great. There are so many quirky and fun lines & lovable characters. Too bad though that Ms Stark didn't focus on the romance portion because individually, the main characters were truly great, but together as a romantic couple didn't work because that part was underdeveloped and too late & rushed at the end that it ruined it for me.
Jane is a catering assistant. Struggling to pay her bills and generally failing at life. Having been recently promoted she’s working an event when she runs into none other than the biggest prick ever, Zane. Zane has recently come into a large fortune and CEO position after the suspicious deaths of his uncles followed by the sudden death of his grandfather. There’s now much else to say about him other than he’s mysterious and I GIANT asshole. After Jane looses her job and through a series of off the wall shenanigans, she ends up working for Zane as his personal PR girl.
So I genuinely enjoyed this book. But I am already a fan of Sabrina’s work. (Illegal Fortunes is one of my favorite reads ever!) The thing about her work is that you either love it or you don’t. She tends to, with a quick sentence or two, foreshadow upcoming events at the end of most of her chapters. Which can be killer when try to go to sleep or just put her books down lol. Also, you never miss anything. Occasionally you’ll skip forward a month or two but usually you go through every single detail of what occurs which can sometimes be tedious and make you want to skim a little. I felt like there was a missed chance with what happened with Zane’s family and it was all wrapped up too quickly with zero drama which was kind of a let down as it seemed it all would be leading to something much, much bigger. But overall I’m a huge fan and this book is just another reason why!
Zane was of course a major asshole but you could definitely start to see through it when he was around Jane. She was a little clueless about what was happening around her and kind of a doormat where the people around her were concerned but that seems to be another Sabrina Stark trait. Adding side characters that drive you nuts with how ridiculous they are and not having the MCs stand up for themselves. And always having the Heroine end up in totally hilariously, outrageous situations that are almost unbelievable. For instance I’d have kicked paisleys ass out of the house for the crap she pulled and the scenes she created. And as always... my least favorite. There is always, always a woman or many in this case that the H has slept with or fooled around with that the h is constantly exposed to and forced to be around. Sometimes they turn out to be misunderstandings *cough* Lawton *cough* which is nice but not in this case.
Which brings me to the safety details, this is not a book I’d recommend for my safety gals. After knowingly having intense feelings for Jane and going so far as to employ her to be close to her he constantly sleeps with and brings around other woman (not all on page and no explicit details) while warning off any man that even looks at her and having jealous BF reactions. All while having this “oh well, I’m having fun banging all these models even though I’m pining for you and you can’t have anyone else, what of it, does it matter?” kind of attitude. I was able to look past it because by this point I expect it from her books(except with Illegal Fortunes!) but it is still yucky and the main thing I dislike in her stories😫😔.
All this to say that as long as you have no safety issues I highly recommend this book! Sabrina always delivers on the funny and over the top situations, and alpha heroes and I can’t wait to read what’s next!!

I can't believe I read the whole darn thing. I don't understand how I just completed it and yet I'm not completely mad about it but I still dont think this is a good book. It had the potential to be amazing but it sucked in almost every aspect.
The main characters were terrible. Jane was a really nice girl but she was a complete pushover. Even when people offended her she just took and didn't stand up for herself. Zane was described as being hot as hell and I believed it but he really was an asshole for 95% of the book. There were hints here and there but there was still no real indication that he liked Jane. He was always an asshole that controlled her and everyone else. I was hoping he'd later develop as a character and we'd be shown a better side of him. Unfortunately I can estimate that there was probably 10 pages of him being a nice guy and proving everyone wrong. That was simply not enough, I didn't feel it.
So stupidly I continued to read because as I said before I was hoping eventually we'd get to the kind parts of him. When that didnt really happen I started looking forward to the sex scenes, I thought, man with all this building anticipation the sex scenes are gonna be off the roof..... Boy was I wrong. It was like a summary of their sex. What. The. Fuck. It was very very anticlimactic and horrid and I feel used and abused because they made me think it would eventually get better and it never did. VERY disappointing!
What makes me madder is that this truly had the potential for an amazing book filled with intrigue and deception, since his character suddenly appeared outta nowhere to take over his grandpas fortune and having such shady family. Instead, when the truth was revealed it came out flat and incredibly stupid. And the love story, its simply not there.
The only reason i give it 2 stars is because i was entertained for most of the book but the fact that it didnt live up to expectations leaves me frustrated. I'd say, skip this book and don't bother with it. It was a waste of my time and I wish I hadn't read this.
Billionaire Zane Bennington has everything, money, looks and ladies. He inherited multi billionaire Bennington group from his grandfather. Jane was working as a caterer at Zane’s party. When she was looking for something in her caterer van she overhears conversation between Zane, Teddy and numerous people from the party. But that conversation was not pleasant. She knew Zane is prick, ruthless, coldhearted as*hole. She was never to talk to Zane by her supervisor and when she was exiting the van, she meets Zane. From then Jane’s life changed forever. Jane was living with roommate Paisley from hell (who steals food, wine, clothes and never pays rent on time). When she comes back from her nightmare of catering job from Bennington estate, she was faced with a message. She is fired from her catering job. She was sure, Zane caused her to be fired. She wasn’t expecting to face him again, but after without work for couple month, she goes to see him and he offers a job that she couldn’t refuse. Jane starts as his PA/media relations. She attends all his meetings and see him as ruthless and prick. She absolutely hated him but she couldn’t just leave the job since she doesn’t have anything else. She has seen him with numerous girls but time to time he behaves out of ordinary (pretty much like arrogant ass all the time), it confuses her. Nothing really happens between Zane and Jane until after 75% of the book, when they travel to NY. A lot of their romance feel it was rushed and his womanizing ways was never explained. Story was moving and at the end of each chapter elude to next one so I had to get to next chapter. Jane and roommate was interesting and at times I don’t know why she stuck with her. It took a long time for me to like the Zane... I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy. I would give between 3-3 1/2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a fascinating, unique romance between Zane and Jane. The world saw Zane as an evil, greedy. prick but no one knew his true motives they just thought they did. Jane working for Zane took him at face value thought he was rude, arrogant, an asshole and prick. Although she slowly started to see a different side to him she still did not trust him. After a few incidents that showed he did care about her well being she started to soften more towards him. But they he would slip back into asshole territory and she withdrew, confused as ever. Then things were happening that she did not understand that Zane was trying to keep her from getting involved to protect her. Because his two uncles were murdered and he did not know if he would be the next target and by extension Jane. She finally got an earful from an acquaintance of his proving that they did not have Zane's interest at heart and were planning to blackmail him. But all in all finally Jane saw the bigger picture of why Zane did the things he did because they were the right thing to do. Truly this was a different type of romance than I had expected. You just have to read it for yourself to understand what I mean. An excellent story and plot. The characters were at times funny, direct, and to the point. Zane blunt as ever and Jane a softy at heart but had a lion's worth of loyalty was there for Zane. I highly recommend this book. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book via Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving a review.
