When Serena awakes, after a close and unpleasant encounter with some sort of stun gun, she very quickly learns that resistance is futile and escape only a yearned for dream. She, and the other Earth women Serena meets aboard ship with her, have been captured by the Moyds, interstellar merchants ..their mission, to procure fertile wives for the men of Volarn, where their race is endangered due to the wide-spread sterility of their own women. Learning this is at least some relief to the captured women, but Serena is disgusted to realize that they are nothing in these men's eyes but baby makers. Regardless, she knows she has no choice but to face the fate that awaits her with as much dignity as she can muster. Once they arrive on Volarn, Serena learns that her assessment has not been entirely accurate. Using their power crystals in the Tarthra Ritual, the warriors approach the women with their crystals to find the mate most suited to them..a woman to love who can love them. Serena is chosen to become King Rhamus' queen, but, just as she feels herself weakening to Rhamus' romantic, passionate nature, Rhamus' enemy, Xarath, abducts her. Rating: Contains explicit sex, graphic language and some violence
Myra Nour grew up reading s/f, fantasy, and romance, so she was really thrilled when these elements were combined in Futuristic Romances. She enjoys writing within all these elements, whether the hero is a handsome man from another planet, or a tiny fairy from another dimension. Myra’s background is in counseling, and she likes using her knowledge to create believable characters. She also enjoys lively dialogue and, of course, using her imagination to create other worlds with lots of action/adventure, as well as romance. She uses her handsome husband as inspiration for her heroes - he is a body builder, a soldier, and has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
Ugh. Not sure why this book has such high ratings. It's exactly like every other crappy "gender equality" aliens book. The heroine is a horrendous prude, AND a virgin, and the hero doesn't seem entirely sure whether he wants to be with her because......... *gasp*... she has red hair. My eyes are rolling so hard they're about to roll onto the floor.
DNF. Didn't even make it to the halfway point. What a waste of time.
Serena was 2 dimensional to me. I was constantly irritated at her happy acceptance of her new status as a kidnapped/forced bride. She was sooooooo easy to please and questioned very little. I saw no spirit in this heroine.
Rhamus as king and hero irritated me to the point that I was hoping to see the bad guy come mop the floor with him. I just didn't have the patience to wait for the entrance of the bad guy. He starts off by being kind of a jerk at the bride choosing ceremony. A man with red hair killed his father...so Rhamus hates red hair. It's the hair color of his enemy. Guess what color hair Serena has? Oh yes, so she definitely deserves to be treated crappy after being kidnapped and brought across the galaxy in a month long trip.
King Rhamus, or as I call him "King of No ForePlay" uses this crystal all the warrior have to magically select his bride from all the women kidnapped from earth. He also uses it to magically put her in a state of drugged/dizzy horniness so she'll comply with whatever he wants. He uses the magic crystal to get her to say her side of the wedding vows, then to sit quietly by his side at the wedding feast, then finally to get her into bed their first time.
Serena is a virgin, but he doesn't much care. After the painful first thrust snaps her out of the drugged stupor, he doesn't leave her alone and finally gets his rocks off....not so much for Serena.
He then abandons her for the next three days, in which she tried to escape and is caught. Then Rhamus's bitchy sister decides to cruelly prank Serena with her pet spider. (Serena has arachnophobia ever since having been bitten by what sounds like a Brown recluse when she was 5)
Serena has to adjust to eating what amounts to a large beetle as the main protein staple at mealtimes, complete with hard shell and legs. (Yuck!). Rhamus takes her out riding their (unicorns) unique flavor of horses and gives her a broken down old mount to ride (because the young ones are 'too spirited'). Then he and his cousin proceed to ride their young 'spirited' mounts and show off all kinds of ways. How does Serena react to all this crap? "I think I'm falling in love". This heroine irritated me ALMOST as much as the hero. No spirit.
I hate to classify this book as erotica because the sex scenes were SOOO dry and boring, I would classify them as "erotica-cardboard" only.
I thought Rhemus constant 'teasing' was kind of a dick thing, but it was a shallow/2D thing because I really got no sense of feeling from either character up until the point where I tapped out from reading.
I first read this scifi rom a couple of years ago. It still stands up very well.
It's your typical earth girl capture and transport to a distant and unknown planet cause the native girls are sterile following a war story. However, that's where it changes and becomes a story of a couple falling in love even though they don't know each other from a bar of soap.
At over 200 pages this gives the author scope to delve into some character growth as well as some hawt loving.
Wow! Several words can describe this book, Captivating, Fan-Fu@King-tastic, Excellent World Building, Mind Blowing and Orgasm Heaven, etc... Can you tell I loved this book - LOL I was hooked immediately in this fast paced Novel, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough as the scenes came alive on the pages, I literally watched each word come to life in color as if I was watching a movie. The authors world building skills is beyond brilliance as she creates a planet full of colorful majestic hues of blue, multiple moons and suns, fantasy like animal creatures that gasp our breath away with their beauty, well built and sexual native like men that make you melt just from one look, and a mystical legend of magical power gained from sacred crystals.
The characters connect beautifully and become real like with their emotions of resistance, love, jealousy, deceit, and kick ass fighting. The electrical connection between the King Rhamus and his chosen Queen Serena (Human Captive) is magnetic as their friendship grows into a love unexpected. Their sexual encounters are playful, humorous, toe curling, leg crossing, nipple straining, lip biting, hot flashing, and orgasm shattering. There is even a little lite BDSM of spanking and restraining while being pleasured in all positions fantasized about.
The story's plot builds through out the whole book with action pact drama, warring, and adaptation to the new life. The exciting chase for truth and trust is a loved ones test of sympathy, hatred and understanding that test all boundaries. In the end, the Moyds (Alien) and their chosen human mates win your heart over as they go beyond their determination to adapt and populate their world.
Overall, there is one thing that comes to mind when I think about this story and that is "Beam Me Up Scotty!" Did I tell you how much I loved this book - LOL I loved it so much I hugged it to my chest in the end as I felt all the happiness that I gained from this awesome read.
I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves romance and I truly look forward to reading the second book in the series "Heart of the Dragon."
I didn't finish this book, I believe I got lost in the way with the amount of details and problems the couple went through. There was a lot of things about this world the author created that she wanted to tell, and the book became longer and longer. It was difficult to pay attention to everything with so many things going on.
Perhaps the story could be divided in two books pretty nicely. I really enjoyed how believable the couple behaved around one another, the dialogue was good.
More conversation and less description, that's what I would've liked to see. The world building was well explored and very interesting.
I just couldn't get involved with the story. The writing wasn't bad. But the story didn't interest me, and I had a hard time connecting to the main character. Will have to try rereading this book at another time. Hopefully with better results.
Waking up and realizing she is not where she is supposed to be, Serena quickly figures out that she and other women were taken captive and were on their way to a alien planet. The women soon find out the reasoning behind the kidnapping. The race of Volarn is in danger of becoming wiped out because of a fertility issue. After research, they figure out that it is possible to mate with Earth women and be able to help repopulate their race. The cool part about this whole forced to be someone's mate is that the Volarn men have the power to find the perfect match in their mate through a special crystal.
Serena is stunned to learn that she was picked by the king himself to become his mate. She is really, really resistant at first, hell, she even tries to escape back to Earth, but she slowly begins to find that she really enjoys the company of Rhamus and is starting to enjoy her Queenly duties. But when she starts to feel that she has finally found a place and a home, she is abducted by Rhamus' enemy, Xarath. And man is he a thorn in my ass I want to have removed and grind into dust.
I really like how the story is played out. It's great that Rhamus doesn't force himself onto Serena but instead he makes her feel comfortable and makes her feel like the queen she is. In most books, the king is an uber prick that will try to force his betrothed queen to love him but this is not the way Rhamus is. I wish I was in Serena's shoes because I can tell you that I wouldn't have tried to escape. Lol!
So if you are looking for an enchanting read with a fantasy twist, you have to read this. You won't be disappointed. Well done Myra! *applauds*
Love’s Captive is book #1 in the Volarn Chronicles I can honestly say that I loved the story within the pages of this book (and who doesn’t want a book with a beautiful unicorn?? I mean . . . how can that not grab you? – Have I ever mentioned I collect alicorns of all kinds? lol).
Just imagine waking up but as a captive, heading to an alien world . . . That’s what Serena did one fateful morning and things got more interesting from there. Now, before you jump to the conclusion that the Volarn are evil, their race is dying but human genetics are compatible so there is a pseudo-reasonable excuse for their actions. The other things to note is that the male you are matched to is perfect for you, maybe not for everyone, but for you . . . Yes!
Now enters the enemy of the Volarn, Xarath . . . who kidnapps her. Talk about ‘a girl just can’t get a break.’
The story is within a well-crafted world imagined by Myra and brought to life in Love’s Captive and it’s sequel, Heart of the Dragon (Which I also LOVED). The characters as so vivid you feel like you really know then and are invested in their lives. The writing is brilliant and engaging and real. And, it’s HOT, lol.
If you love romance I suggest you run right out (or click ;) ) and grab a copy of a truly wonderful read.
I totaly loved this book! Serena is a wrestler and who would´ve thought she was so inocent and Rhamus is so sweet and loving and... oh i want to be kidnapped by him, yep most definitly!! At one time i kind of wanted to kick his ass, he was a jerk when he saved her from Xarath, a major one but it all turned out ok! The love scenes were breathtaking! loved Kasha and jarvic and i can´t wait to read the next books!! I deeply recommend this book, it´s very sweet!!
It was a good read but i was disappointed in the writting. It´s way too much narractive. You feel like your are reading past events instead of living them with the characters. It can get boring. But the story was still great.
