The vision of one man, Captain Sherman "Red" Crise formed the basis for what was to become the Bahamas Speed Weeks, a series of motor races held on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas. They started in the mid 1950s and continued for 13 years, before ending due to a mix of political decisions, ill fortune and a shift in the direction motor racing had taken over that period of time. These years were described by many commentators as the golden age of motor racing, where internationally acclaimed drivers attended the Speed Weeks to mix with the many amateur racers from America who came to enjoy the scenario of sun, parties and racing. For many drivers the social scene was as important as the racing, and in latter years prize money was an extra incentive to turn up. This well researched account tracks the history of the Speed Weeks with its roller-coaster ride throughout its 13 years existence, and includes stunning photos, complete statistics, and more. I Wanted this book bad and would not settle until I got one for a Good price, this version is the first edition with the John Mecom Racing team On the Cover, the Corvette Grand Sport #00,Dodge-Hussein,The Zerex Special,The Ferrari.I wanted this more than the newer revised edition which is in my library as well. The book disappointed me a little due to not enough Corvette Grand Sport coverage and the due they receive for Whipping Ford in 63'.there are great color photos of the #00 Jack Saunders Corvette Grand Sport Coupe, the #82,Lightweight-Lightweight Penske Corvette Grand Sport which later became the #12 Beat Up George Wintersteen car which in the #12 is not pictured(see Corvette Grand Sport,Friedman.)the Cover photo looks dark as the #00 Should be a lighter blue as seen elsewhere inside the book(I have the Exoto 1/18 of it.)The book covers all the events up to 1966,including A FormulaV type race in 67' that was at Freeport. It's a Shame that the PLP/Pindling got rid of Red Crise and these events which brought Money to the Islands and tourism and Jobs and they got rid of any evidence these races were held as the author finely points.Too bad as Red Crise put on a great Show. I also have the Version by Dalton Watson Fine books and it is huge and covers the revivals, and the little book he did about 50s/60s racing in Nassau, all the books are a must own/must read!
