The first of seven sturdy hardcovers collecting the entirety of the Eisner Award-winning slice-of-life comic series!
The school year is just beginning at Sheffield University, jam-packed with new classes, professors, and places to explore… not to mention new clubs, cliques, and shenanigans galore! For first years Daisy, Esther, and Susan, they’ve got new friends on lock, forming a tight bond from their first days as next-dorm neighbors. But learning to navigate life as brand new (almost) adults isn’t as easy as it looks. Between old nemeses popping up, academic struggles, and new crushes on the horizon, it’s a good thing these three have each other to help survive Hall Balls, bantering lads, and drama vortexes (vortices?)! The Giant Days Library Edition Volume 1, written by John Allison (Wicked Things, Steeple) and illustrated by Lissa Treiman (Minötar) and Max Sarin (Harley The Animated The Eat Bang Kill Tour) collects the first eight issues of the Eisner Award-winning and Harvey Award-nominated series, along with an issue of the original webcomic, all in a sturdy, deluxe hardcover. Collects Giant Days #1-8.
I received a free copy of this Library Edition in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to BOOM Box for this opportunity!
This book is AWESOME! I was not familiar with the series before receiving this book. I LOVED it! I zoomed through the book, laughing all along the way! :D Immediately upon finishing, I put the next books in the series on hold from the public library!
The characters are real, honest, and made me want to return to university all over again! I am in love! :)
I'm a big fan of cartoonist John Allison. Most everything I've read of his was also drawn by him, so I wasn't sure how I'd take to Giant Days. But Lissa Treiman (on the first six issues) and Max Sarin (on the next two) are perfectly able to bring the humor and cuteness that I love about Allison's work.
The story is about a trio of friends who live near each other in a college dorm (I'm a sucker for anything set on a college campus) and it's just their adventures as they cram for tests, battle mean girls, and manage crushes (both incoming and outgoing). Really looking forward to continuing the series.
Got an e-copy from the publisher in exchange for review. Not sure who those questions could really be for at the end; it doesn't feel like a school book so maybe a book club? The extra comics were fun to read but I kept expecting a supernatural story because of the way it's set up. I'm probably a decade late asking whyyyy
The art was fun, but I really wasn’t a fan of any of the self centered obnoxious characters. There wasn’t an overall plot either so it wasn’t keeping me all that interested with all its meandering.
The official Giant Days #1/7, in a gorgeous hardcover library edition. Love all the extra content and art that comes in these. While the "Early Registration" comic is the unofficial start, this book is the official start, and brings on a lot more fleshed out new characters and new details into the setting, which gives it so much more potential. The art from Treiman and Sarin really flourishes - as much as I like Allison's art, I think his style is better suited for SGR. But maybe that's just because how we know all the characters anyway! Regardless, the art here is amazing.
Stories involve meeting McGraw, Daisy's new crushes, Bantserv, the ball, saving Susan, Esther dating a young professor, and then the bonus inclusion at the end of John Allison's stories of the three meeting each other on their first days. Lovely!
