The recent deaths of people close to him have left Dalton at his lowest ebb. Afoot and with only a few dollars to his name he takes refuge in Abner Whitlock’s trading post. When a riverboat captain gets into a fight with Abner, Dalton intervenes, but in the ensuing scuffle Abner and Captain Chattoway end up dead. Dalton gets a chance to make amends for his actions when he’s given the task of completing the captain’s seemingly routine mission to deliver whiskey to the Ruby Lady saloon. Dalton soon discovers that this mission isn’t all it seems. He has a battle on his hands and it’s a fight that may just give him hope for the future.

After his wife dies of disease and his good friend gets killed, he moves on to another territory. Traveling along he get robbed again of his horse and gun. He walks into the deserted town of Harmony. A scuffle breaks out and the captain of the riverboat is killed and Dalton having no money and nothing else better to do, takes the job of being the captain. It's a good story as all the others were that I read.
