These books would be so much more fun if they had some original, clever content. Sure, it’s fun to pop the little dots, but should that be the ONLY redeeming feature of your book...?? NAY!! Children need more out of a book, as do their parents who will potentially get tired of (and ultimately refuse) reading the same book repeatedly, especially a story that has been told MILLIONS of times by every imaginable children’s book publisher. I grow tired of monkeys, and my one-year-old only points out the cars—very likely because the monkeys are creepy-looking and he hopes the cars can escape the destructive culture of these unteachable primates.

My sister read this book when she was little, then my younger brother did, and now my 4 year old loves it. After so many years of use, some of the bubbles have broken and no longer pop. However, it took literally year after year of reading for this to happen, and even with the broken bubbles, my 4 year old is still perfectly satisfied popping one or two less bubbles. This book does an amazing job of keeping kids engaged and interested! I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to make sure their child stays engaged while they read.

Such a great book! This book has very colorful and engaging pictures. It encompasses repetition and tactile aspects which is a great way to help kids learn. This book is a great opportunity to help kids learn how to count.

We let our 3 year old choose any 2 books he'd like to read each night at bedtime. One of the choices is always his Poke a Dot 10 Little Monkeys book that grandma gave him. He's had this book for about 8 months and still wants to read it every single night and it helped us teach him to count.

The book has held up very well over that period with the daily use it gets. It was only recently that three of the pop buttons on the first page (which he loves to poke in and out repeatedly) got cracks in them. The popping sound is not loud, in fact it's just loud enough that I can be in the next room during his nap and I'll hear a very small sound and think, "what was that?" Then I grin because I realize he's woken up and is playing with his Poke a Dot book. He's 3...there is NOTHING else that keeps him in his room after waking up from his nap!

My two-year-old loves the Poke-a-Dot books. In my opinion this one isn't quite as good as Old MacDonald just because it's nothing but monkeys (I prefer the variety of all the animals), but it's definitely good for working on counting, and my toddler seems to love it just as much as the other one.

ETA March 2016: My one-year-old is equally obsessed with this poke-a-dot book as well.

ETA January 2022: F (now 3) enjoyed this book, too. We read it tonight (definitely not for the first time, just the first time I remembered to add it to her list) and she did a great job counting all the dots. She'll be out of the target audience for this book pretty soon, but it was nice that this was a hit for all 3 kids.

Everyone knows the story of the 10 little monkeys or at least one version. Since there are a few slighlty different versions out there. This book is so wonderful and a bit addictive. Children will love it. You got to poke the dots to count the monkeys as you read the story. Great thing to help children learn their numbers. I even had fun with this story. My only issue is that I noticed that the "pop" is louder if on one side then the other but other then that I would say a must have or must read for each child.

What a fun book! Poke-A-Dot! 10 Little Monkeys takes the story we all know and love and adds a twist. Created by Ikids, the board book includes plastic bubbles that POP! when you press them. Young kids learning to count can count the monkeys as they POP the platic bubbles. I really enjoyed meeting Lucy Schultz, who was behind the concept of the book, and reading it.

My two year old loves this, but I don't find it near as much fun as some of his other books. Possibly because it's 10 little monkeys and not very original or because I recently learned this kids rhyme has a super racist back ground. Though the popping things are pretty unique.

Loved this book! It is about 10 little monkeys jumping on the bead. It teaches children how to count. They get to poke some plastic dots to make a sound. Well, at least I had fun poking the dots.
