Top marks for this latest picture book from Gallagher. Frollicksome fun, jolly rhyming verse, playful word play, enticing phraseology and a cheeky twist at the end earn full points for this tale that shouts about friendship and humanity (caring for pets and animals) in the most humorous and fetching ways.
Tortop's inspired illustrations set the scene, provide all the clues and are just so joyful, it's hard not to get stuck straight back in once you've reached the end. This is a fantastic example of a visual narrative working in close cahoots with verse that works. The results reflect on bravery and kindness in a supremely entertaining way. Loved it.
As soon as you open this colourful book, the scene is set for loads of adventure and fun as a little girl asks the question, 'Have you Seen my Scaredy Cat?' Every spread is a visual feast and kids will love searching for Scaredy Cat. The rhyme is terrific to read aloud. The little girl is a wonderful friend to her beloved pet. And the ending is so satisfying and heartfelt that the story begs to be read over and over. A wonderful addition to any home or classroom.
This book is pure charm from cover to cover. Littlest readers will love searching for Scaredy Cat on every spread, listening to the jaunty rhymes, and joining in on the refrain. Adorable, colorful illustrations complete the package, as does the surprising twist at the end.
