Maven Edwards was raised on the ruthless streets of Detroit but makes it out in one piece. An executive in the music industry, he has fortune, fame, and good looks, but an ice cold heart from time spent in various orphanages. Maven isn't looking for love, or even one female to share his wealth and success with. He is a bona fide ladies' man. The more arm candy he has to flaunt at celebrity parties, buy high-priced gifts for, and take on luxurious trips, the better. He's all about building his brand, making money, and collecting beautiful women who can coexist as sister wives. That's where Jhene, Noel, and Khy come in. Jhene is an exotic dancer from Atlanta. She was living undercover in Miami when Maven met her and turned her gray world into one filled with glitz and glam. Noel was a social media model who caught his eye, so he made her a star. And Khy, his main chick, has his kids, so she isn't going anywhere. He is living a single man's dream-until his perfect life starts to unravel and his empire crumbles. Everything that glitters definitely ain't gold, as Maven will soon be forced to learn the hard way.
The mindset of these characters are something I've never heard of.
Samira you just find out the man you have loved for the past 6-7 yrs and intend to marry has a baby on the way with another woman. you were also well aware of this mans infidelity with this woman but have the nerve to feel some type of way? then just hrs after learning he's expecting, you have sex with the man in hopes of becoming baby mama #2? sorry I don't feel sorry for naïve, delusional characters like this who think producing a child with a man provides ownership over him. such silly logic. becoming a baby mama just makes you one of many...not a ruler. I give her points for trying, but the man ain't worth it and literally cost you EVERYTHING while trying to be his "queen" all because he lacked loyalty, faithfulness, and commitment. clearly ol' girl doesn't know what being taken advantage of looked like. call it corny, but if the man can't give you loyalty trust that you'll never be dubbed as royalty.
King king was just all around one selfish, insensitive, manipulative individual. what took me out is that your wife calls you from a random number screaming the house y'all call home is burning to the ground and one of your first concerns is if she grabbed your music equipment???? uumm no, I grabbed my life and ran, was that not enough? king then walks in the destroyed home and the only thing he cares about other than his music equipment is the sexual encounter between her and bro and to not tell on Rayna??? if Samira had a brain and wasn't stuck on stupid, she would've told him to get out of what's left of her house and left it at that. that right there showed he doesn't give a damn about you. but of course feeding into the bullshit was more important. he then tries to start this "who's more in the wrong" debate and tries to play some victim role but yet thinks screwing his wife's fake best friend makes them even. bruh hadn't evened the odds, just made himself hypocritical. BUT WAIT HE'S STILL NOT DONE! because Rayna is his baby's momma, he believes that gives him the right to cheat on his wife with her even though less than 24hrs ago, this same person you're screwing is the same person responsible for making you and your wife homeless. so basically he would put a 5 second orgasm over his wife and home, allow both to be violated and disrespected, just because she's his baby's mom? Tuh some "man" smh. the last bit of my rant on him is elaboration on why he feels entitled to make the call to give Rayna the insurance money for the house she burned down?!?!!? Samira couldn't even come by to bring your son some clothes without being jumped for goodness sake but yet you get to say what she does with HER money and who it goes to??? ok kid.
Overall, the book just made me super annoyed. I wasn't rooting for anyone, not even Samira. in my eyes, I didn't like any of the characters because they all acted like simple headed children. that whole "ride or die" title is very one sided. and the problem with these women is that they fail to realize that in the eyes of these type of boys, you have to be willing to ruin your life. lose everything, dignity, possessions, and all, and be oblivious to what being used looks like in order to get some meaningless title. A real man would be too prideful to give anyone the opportunity to say "you wouldn't have any of this, if it weren't for me". and women need to stop crippling these men into big lil boys and let it be clear that if you want something, you go out there and get it. helping your man out is cool. but turning him into a dependent, that's just dumb. I won't speak on the other characters because we already know they ain't shit lol. AND WHY ARE CONDOMS LIKE A MYTH TO THESE PEOPLE?!?!?! and just because i'm petty, pg 143 "having spent nine months brewing inside of Rayna..." umm it couldn't have been nine months. the baby was prematurely born or did you forget ? pg 181 " I haven't laid eyes on my husband since our wedding day when he walked out our front door"...soooo, who was the one at the fight scene then because I'm confused? anyhow, since the ending left us in the dark, I'm just gonna narrate my own ending to things for closure.
Samira was not approved for the home she wanted and after pleading with her parents, went to stay with them temporarily until she was capable to get an apartment for herself. it was no shocker when symptoms of pregnancy and a positive test appeared soon after arriving at her parents doorstep. not interested in disappointing her parents anymore than she already had, Samira quietly made an appointment to terminate the seed of King or Johnie. no way was she going to bring a bastard child into this world and set herself up to be on the next Maury show. the buffoonery had to stop. no way was she going to be tied down to it any longer. this was the official way of saying good riddance and she had to take it. she reached out to Jamila in need of someone to be by her side. she asked to come over so she could update her friend on the new mayhem in her life. Upon arrival, Jamila's window was wide open for the world, and Samira to hear her phone conversation with King. she discovers Jamila's deceiving ways while eavesdropping on her screaming at King on the phone for giving her an STD and mentioning her secret feelings for him along with withholding King's secrets from her best friend. although she was shouting to the high heavens, Jamila wanted hush money for her car repairs or threatened to go to social media telling all his followers he was holding diseases. needless to say, the friendship ended there. feeling defeated, Samira just walked away with her heart heavy. the man she wasted several years of her life for really had no restraint. no one was off limits to him. her one slip up compared to his 100th, was so unforgivable to him that he just had to get a round in with her best friend to feel better about himself. she meant what she said about having the buffoonery stop so fighting wasn't worth it. Jamila's car was already not operational, surely that was enough revenge. right? she simply got in her car, blocked her now ex best friend from all forms of communication, drove off, and never looked back. Samira later had Rayna and King served with investigation papers for the fire, an annulment, and a side note saying " he's yours. you win, to an extent." "I'm sure that bitch will make sure King gets this." she said to herself. afterward, Samira promised herself to beat the temptation and loneliness, and to stay single and keep to herself for a while. King had drained her in everyway a person could be. "well not anymore.' she said. things did not work in Rayna's favor. she lost Jr. to the system. with the open fire investigation on her and Tiana's boyfriend drug trafficking taking place during a random CPS visit, the social worker found the child at risk if released and put into Rayna's care. Cameron was later pulled into the investigation as an accomplice when traffic cams spotted her car causing a traffic jam after fleeing from the scene. without a doubt, an argument between the three formed and in effect Cameron spilled the beans about Tiana making the anonymous call (without a doubt, things were not pretty after that). bitter from the fight and now being seen as the hood's snake and snitch, Tiana, who is now certified in making anonymous calls, made one more to the police tipping them on both Rayna and Cameron in regards to the fire. as for the man of the hour, King, homie kept circling the block. because every move he tried to make went left! His name was being thrown all around the city for all the wrong reasons. with only negativity and nothing beneficial to follow, King wound up being one of Detroit's biggest joker once karma got done with him. bruh went from being a whole irresistible snack to being a crumb. not even the local rats wanted a whiff of him. Johnie's diss track on King certainly got a fair share of views. unfortunately for Johnie, his pettiness made others not want to work with him. introducing yourself in the industry with shade wasn't the greatest first impression to others in the game but it sure did have a huge impact on King. the other two artists King made promises to, who he had let down as well with his short comings, didn't help his rep either. a few attempts were made to try and get pity from Samira and finesse a few dollars out of her. but to no avail, his manipulation scheme didn't pull through. as expected, now that King's title had deflated, Rayna's "love" for him did the same. Rayna didn't want the poor excuse of a man she fought so hard to get anymore. through her eyes, all because of his precious wife her life was in turmoil. had King ditched Samira instead of marrying her she and her son wouldn't be in such a pickle and they would be a happy family. well, that energy was long gone now that King was a mere scrub again. She thought back on Samira's petty note and finally understood that Samira was the one that walked away victorious and with the last laugh. she didn't win anything by taking Samira's man, she'd lost, bigtime. a flashback of her running up to K.P with a quickness, eager to see him sign the annulment papers came to mind, following a face palm. although all three participants in the love triangle had no choice but to start from scratch, Samira was the lucky one that got to walk away leaving them as just a bad experience and memory. but Rayna was bonded with King for life. Rayna got what she asked for and not too long after getting what she desperately wanted, she wanted to give it right back. King the Producer was now King the Chump, but nonetheless, forever her baby's daddy. THE END.

This was a complete mess. Not the writing, but the storyline. Nobody had a moral compass, it was literally every man/woman for themself. Whew. I was entertained but also sad think there might really be people out in the world that really do not care about the emotional well being of others.
I dislike almost every single character in this book. But the story was riveting because who doesn't like to watch a car crash in slow motion?
The tale is well-written and makes it a very easy read.
But good lord these characters. I felt no sympathy for anyone EXCEPT the neighbor, Cameron, who was just being a good ride or die for a neighbor who became a friend. And she only showed up for a moment to help, and then spat some truth to the girl. This book needed more of this neighbor talking some sense into the rest of these fools.
My one real gripe is the ending. Nothing gets resolved, so why is there no sequel?
I tell a lie. This is my one real gripe:
The firefighter is walking with Samira around the house examining the damage. He sees this big-ass dude FIRST, threaten to kill her, THEN he starts choking the life out of her (IN FRONT OF THE FIREFIGHTER!!)The firefighter intervenes, and then when he's assaulted and threatened for getting involved, he throws his hands up and basically says, "it's not my problem, this shit is too messy, I'm out!" Am I wrong, but why didn't the firefighter immediately call the police himself and report the assault inflicted not just on Samira that he witnessed, but the assault inflicted upon himself. Is it just me? Or is this firefighter stupid?

King and Samira had a toxic relationship that was front and center. Samira funded King's dream to be in the music producer. She allowed him to cheat, which resulted in a baby being born. Her response to the cheating was to cheat herself with someone he knew and to remove her financial support from him (temporarily). I liked that this story, sadly, resembled real life for some. Any of us who suffer from a bout of low self-esteem or unrealistic expectations of our place or our importance in someone's life could fall victim to this level of toxicity. The story did move quickly and the drama kept coming. It did not always make sense to me. The plus also was that Nicole Small as a narrator and the audio production were both good. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants high drama.
Being a Detroit native reading about the familiar places & street names sets a tone for a certain type of nostalgia. King (**** boy) epitomizes everything we hate about, so-called Street Dudes. And proof that money can't buy you love. I wished on many occasions I could reach through these pages to strangle a few of these characters. Shady friends, shady business partners, you name it, this book has it.
I tried but I just couldn't finish this book. The MFC was too dumb I just could. Not. Deal. Who marries a man after finding out he has a side piece that's 7 months pregnant with his baby?? And who purposely tries to get pregnant by a man who has a side piece that's 7 months pregnant? Who wants a man that slaps you in the middle of a club? I just couldn't with this book. The sheer stupidity was too much for me. DNF
it dosent deserve the one star im giving it really it was pure ghetto trash and i couldnt stomach it the things that went the first 56 pages made me want to murder everything moving and they all stupid bitches really she needs not to write and find something else to do because being an author aint one for her
To be perfectly honest the book gave no real ending, I think If you’re looking for something to keep your interest this is perfect, but do not expect a real ending. Although I am happy that the wife finally got her head together and left him! King was a horrible person who literally put all his problems onto everyone else.

The story was okay, I do wish it was more unpredictable and there was more character development throughout the story. Every character is unlikable and overall morally wrong in their own way. Also, the ending sucks. I wish as a reader maybe we could know what Samira actually does at the end and leave King in the dark but we are just as clueless as him.
Wow. There was a whoooooooooole lot of grimy business going on in this book. Can't tell from one jenky move to the next who is going to get what they have coming to them. It was left kind of open ended for me, but I did enjoy the read.
I feel everyone got wht they deserved but the storyline was blah blah just a bunch of ppl sleeping wit other n causing dramas. Dnt think ill read prt 2 if there is one
