I’ve read a few stories set in Viet Nam during the war years, however, No Place to Hide took me back almost 5 decades to the end of the war and the evacuation of Saigon. This book was available as a free offer on Audible because on my membership, and to be honest I had no idea what it was about – yep, I didn’t read the blurb, I just added it to my library. Recently I noticed it was set to leave my library on April 7, so I started listening to David Hilder narrate the story and took the day off from doing anything to just sit and listen to a story about a period of history that I had the privilege of participating in – albeit in a small way but being on one of the carriers providing air support to the helo evacuation gave me a sense of revisiting the past. Gerry Carrol did an awesome job of building a believable story around this time in history, not to mention treating the Montagnards with the level of respect they earned but never really received from the US or French government. While I haven’t read or listened to the first two books in the series, I felt like I knew these characters based on the excellent level of background information provided in the story. I will soon take a couple of days and read the first two books once I can procure copies. David HIlder’s narration is excellent, I’ll be looking for more books to listen to that he has narrated.

Good story and had a feel of authenticity to it, but not the first book I'd recommend to someone looking for a Vietnam book to read. Didn't know this was the end of a trilogy when I started it so maybe I needed the first two to really get the emotional attached. knowing they were based on real guys is cool and enjoyed the read overall it gave a good overview of the end and pulling out of Vietnam . Rated as worth the time.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. First off, it’s the first novel I’ve read about the last days of the U.S. experience in Vietnam, so that was a big plus for me. But the characters were compelling and the story itself moved with the same pace of that last fateful month when Saigon fell. Hope I can find the first two books in the series!

Fascinating to see the Vietnam war from the perspective of the "real" people who lived it. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

South Vietnam, 1975: The NVA is at the gates of Saigon and the US Military prepares to evacuate the few remaining Americans and any Vietnamese associated with the former regime. Into the fray comes Tim Boyle and Mike Santy (late of Carroll's North SAR) to help organize the evacuation. When two Navy SEALS launch a mission to bring home a long lost comrade Boyle and Santy volunteer to fly the evac...but the NVA is moving ever closer to Saigon and any man left behind will find himself beyond the reach of Uncle Sam.

The final novel in Gerry Carroll's Vietnam Naval Aviation Trilogy and sadly Carroll's last novel before a heart attack claimed his life. More focused than his previous effort (Ghostrider One) but falling short of his excellent first novel (North SAR, No Place to Hide is a fitting end to the trilogy, and allows Carroll to use his considerable writing skills to bring home the full extent of the final tragedy of the Vietnam War. If your looking for a guns blazing war story this isn't it, however the novels solid enough I'd recommend it to even people who usually avoid War Novels. Check it out.

This was a story of two young pilots. One flew Combat Search and Rescue Helicopters and the other flew the A-7 Corsair attack fighter jet. Their story joins as they first start flight school and takes them into the deep jungles of war torn Vietnam. Together they experience the struggles of battle both in the air over Saigon and on the ground in the Highlands. This is a great story of the Fall of Saigon from the Helicopter pilots that flew onto those floor top exits. The author has you flying in the copilots seat as you are rescuing the fleeing personnel from the falling city. Great book for the final chapter of a three part series of the war in Vietnam. In"North SAR" you were welcomed into the war as both a Helo on CSAR missions to the Jet jockey flying into Indian Country. Now in "No Place to Hide" the two are again joined together in a life and death struggled. Start reading, it's a good flight.

The Vietnam war is over. America is on the run and faces evacuating all remaining personnel as the enemy starts laying seige to Saigon. Lt. Tom Boyle thought he was only there to advise on the best way to do this, but finds himself being shot at, being hassled by his superiors and rescuing Vietnamese nationals from crumbling rooftops. And as if that wasn't enough, there's two SEALS treking through the jungle to rescue an AWOL comrade and it's doubtful they'll make it back before the last helicopter leaves.

This is great read, plenty of action and the sort of heroes only America can produce! Not quite your normal wham, bham, thriller, as it's well written and conjures up the helplessness of the situation.

Nah, could not get into this in any way and it has been a very long time since I have ever not been able to finish a novel. Way too techy for me and did not keep my attention. A Air Force technician might like it.
