Can a one-night-stand ever turn into happily ever after?
Abbie Claret has given up on love after the latest in a string of terrible relationships.
A night of passion with sexy actor Derek Hartley? Hot. Getting caught sneaking out the next morning? Mortifying. But when their one-night-stand turns into a long weekend of no-strings fun, will Abbie be able to walk away from the feelings she swore off?
I went into this read thinking it'd be more of a lighter, wish fulfillment type read with a lot of sex. It was in a lot of ways, but the execution just didn't click with me. I felt it was heavy on internal monologue, repetition, and was more telling vs. showing. The whole book was also mostly just the main characters, with some scenes of the h with her BFF.
The h meets the H at a convention, she's assisting his table and he's a famous actor. The book begins the night after what the h thinks will be a ONS and the H invites her to a long weekend hookup. Except the h almost immediately is thinking it'll be difficult to maintain a boundary and that thought pattern continues. Some very cute scenes with cooking and the h drawing. Very little background or character depth was given though, just hints of elements not expanded enough. Lots of steamy scenes (which also felt repetitious in ways). A brief separation, an exchange of I love you's, and an epilogue a few months later of them making their relationship work. Written in third person, single POV of h. No ow/om drama (the reader was told the H looked jealous/possessive sometimes and the h felt like she didn't measure up to a prior relationship of the H's that was with an actress) and neither were virgins (little history given).
Abbie has had no luck with relationships as of recently, and in her journey to just do her own thing for a while she ends up hooking up with super hot actor Derek Hartley. When she is sneaking out the next morning one thing leads to another and a weekend of no-strings fun begin between the two. The real question, are they both able to walk away no-strings attached?
This was an adorable, bite sized read. While there is a lot of spice, the underlying story was adorable. A huge thing I loved about this story was the communication. Very clear on boundaries and very clear on intentions. For such a spicy read the balance was actually pretty decent. Reading reviews I was convinced this was like mostly smut but I didn't see it that way. Also I think the ending was adorable and the perfect ending to this adorable and steamy novella. Something that was so shocking was the amount of character depth I was seeing from Abbie in such a short story, I loved getting to know this character a lot.
A quick and spicy read that had me on the hook (up) from the get-go. Parish's prose keeps the story moving at the perfect pace, lingering on (and where) you want the moments to linger, while building up the character's relationship in the scenes she gives you to catch your breath. I think, as is with this particular genre, there's a bit of suspension of disbelief that has to happen to accept the plot, but I wanted to see myself as the MC as I read (I mean, who wouldn't?) so while more farfetched than reality, I took no issue with it and had a lot of fun!
108 pages. Of which there was 90% smut and 10% plot.
Abbie wakes up in bed with a film star, Derek, who convinces her to have a steamy weekend away with him. Totally normal to do that with someone you’ve just met that week right?
Their steamy weekend ends as planned and they part ways. But Derek shows up after filming abroad a week later and they declare their love for each other.
Insta-love all over. It’s just almost continuous it throughout the book with so much as a breather…and it got a little repetitive.
I loved the book. Abbie and Derek are so cute together. They are at a convention and decide to hook up for a fun filled weekend. What's the harm right? Well, the heart is the problem. Abbie is an artist and Derek a movie star. Hookups are in his DNA but not hers until now. Can they both survive the weekend and walk away for good?
A steamy and fun read. Abbie & Derek are both extremely likable characters. The pacing of the book is perfect. You feel as if you’re caught up in the whirlwind weekend yourself. Recommended to those who like a steamy read with a side of sweetness.
I enjoyed reading it but I think it is too short and not detailed enough. I hoped we could see more of their relationship and other details of their life. It is in the fan fiction wattpad style so I didn't have to many expectations.
I have no idea why I decide its a good idea to read this.. I dont feel any connection between the 2 characters and they agreed on no strings attached but after a night of constant sex, they catch feelings?? 2 stars just for the spice, the love that blossom out of nowhere feels to forced and cringe.
Abbie meets Derek Hartley at a convention she is working. She is an artist and he is a movie star. They agree to have a weekend together no strings attached. Things don't always work out like you plan. This was a great, quick read! I'd love to have more of their story.
I enjoyed the easiness of this book, you meet a guy who doesn’t do all the stereotypical bad boy stuff and just cares for the female lead. Read this if you want a quick and fun read.
I enjoyed this book very much. Just the right amount of sweet and spicy romance with enough story to make it fun and move it forward to a very satisfying end. I will definitely look for more from this author.
Loved this! Not my usual choice of genre, but it was a quick, super steamy read and I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. Cant wait to see what’s next!
