It kills me to say this, but it is only now dawning on me that this is effectively female wish-fulfillment fantasy. How do I know this? Because while it APPEARS that there are stakes involved in their relationship, nothing of note really comes from it. That isn't to say that there aren't risks and the consequences that have occurred are realistic, but the key point is that this story is SAFE. Yes, their relationship isn't public (yet), but there are many ways this story could have shown the harsh reality of a high school girl dating a celebrity, but instead it's just fluff with some conflict on the side. And you know what? I'm honestly okay with that.
Make no mistake, the fact that so many issues in this volume were resolved peacefully is why it's a three star rating, but I'm actually fine with this being a more fluffy story. While I am one that cries "realism" at any point I can with regards to stories like these, the fact that I'm a more character-driven reader is what makes it easier for me to push aside the more unbelievable aspects of the story because I'm so invested in the main couple. Plus, I get the impression this isn't a story meant to be taken seriously or to be seen in a realistic light. It's a fluffy little rom-com that is meant to make your heart squee over the adorable couple and all of their adorableness, with conflict thrown in for conflict and drama purposes. And I am totally on board with this.
I can imagine that this could be the stopping point for most people once they realize that nothing truly terrible is going to happen to these two (at least, I'm predicting nothing will) but I'm still enjoying this story and want to see it through to the end. Let's see what volume 9 has to offer!
