Former football player Adam Mackenzie arrives in small-town Oklahoma to fix up a camp for underprivileged kids. But the city slicker doesn't know horse tack from a touchdown. He's desperate for help—and the pretty rancher next door is the answer to his prayers. War vet Jenna is back home after a stint in Iraq, and she's got a five-year plan: raising her twin boys, running her ranch—and not falling in love. But she can't say no to gorgeous and kind Adam. Can he make her forget all her plans and open her heart to love?
Brenda Minton lives, procrastinates, writes, drinks coffee, raises her kids and is wife to her husband, in the Ozarks.
Okay, now to first person because a third person bio sounds like someone else wrote it about me, and is just license to create flowery prose about myself.
I grew up on a farm in the Ozarks. It was long ago and far away, in a land before cable TV, video games and the internet. To pass the time we read books, watched (gasp) network TV that rarely came in clear, and had friends over on weekends to play music on the front porch, or card games in the dining room.
The result of growing up 'country' was an active imagination. For fun I wrote stories to entertain myself and I dreamed of being an author. Oh, but first, before writing, I wanted to be a jockey.
Writing won out over being a jockey. In the spring of 2006 I got the call that made those dreams come true: the call that welcomed me into the Steeple Hill family of authors.
I started reading BRENDA MINTON’S books after she’d been writing for several years. I’ve enjoyed her writing and stories so much, I’ve gone back in time, purchasing her older ones.
When former football player, Adam Mackenzie arrives in Oklahoma, after having a camp for underprivileged kids placed in his hands after the death of his cousin, the last thing he expects is to meet an independent mother of two, whom happens to be a war vet.
Jenna Cameron is doing just fine on her own. The last thing she needs is a man in her life. But here he is. Big, and strong, and not at all what the media made him out to be. She has a five year, and beyond plan, which doesn’t include marriage. No. She’s been down that road. Well, almost. She isn’t about to let another man hurt her.
JENNA’S COWBOY HERO by BRENDA MINTON is well written (like all of her books) with wonderful characters. I just love both Jenna and Adam. In many of the books I’ve read with a ranch setting, the hero typically works on the ranch or a rodeo. In JENNA’S COWBOY HERO, Adam was born in the county, but soon moved on to “bigger and better things”, to peruse a football career.
I loved Jenna’s character, the uniqueness of her situation, but loved Adam’s, more. Their falling in love was subtle and sweet. That Adam was placed into a situation he never would have put himself in was a wonderful storyline. So many things that he didn’t think was him, turned out to be just what he needed.
I enjoyed having Clint and Willow, Jenna’s brother and sister-in-laws, in the story. I enjoyed their story in A COWBOY’S HEART, and it was fun to see Clint interact in his sister’s life.
Impatiently waiting for BRENDA MIINTON’S next release.
Realistic storyline, loved the way she handled Jenna's ordeal in Iraq and how she overcame her disability! Still a little too much repetition or whining about how they can't have love. As usual laughed throughout the book!
Another one of those annoying titles that have nothing to do with the storyline, an ex pro footballer who is estranged from his family meets the mother of twins and together with her church group puts on a camp for underprivileged kids, no cowboys, no heroes and a not very exciting romance between a guy who has no idea what he wants to be when he grows up and has a long way to go before that happens, if this was real life the mum would be absolutely stupid to become involved with someone who is unwilling to take responsibility for his own life let alone anyone else's, would I read this again No, very disappointing after reading The Cowboy next door by the same author which I did enjoy.
I loved ❤ this book's storyline. I loved ❤ the Christian theme in this story. I loved ❤ Adam's character. I loved ❤ Jenna's character. I loved ❤ Timmy & David. I loved ❤ the ending. Awesome job Ms. Minton.
I've read one of Minton's other books and enjoyed it. This one, not as much. It wasn't a horrible book, but it just didn't hold the charm that "The Cowboy's Family" did, even if it does take place in the same fictional town.
Adam isn't very happy when he has to go back to Oklahoma. But with his cousin's death, the camp he invested in either has to be sold or worked on to get it running. And he could use some shine to his name considering his previous football career included quite a bit of him losing his temper and making himself noticed. What he doesn't expect though, is to meet Jenna, when he returns to Oklahoma. But Jenna isn't really looking for anyone. She has two boys to raise and a missing leg from her time in Iraq and she knows that a relationship probably isn't going to happen for her. But she does want to be Adam's friend and get the camp running.
So little character development in this book. Backstories are hinted at but rarely go in depth as much as they should. We know a little about Jenna's time in Iraq but hardly anything about her childhood, which is the whole motivation for her wanting the camp so it should have been described. Adam we know a little more about his past but I just didn't feel he was connectable as a character. He tried to claim to be a bad boy, but he really wasn't from anything shown in the book. The two kids were kind of two dimensional. They more served as props.
The camp was a nice idea, but it ran kind of slow and there wasn't really any serious conflict in the book. Which made it read quick, but that's not always a good thing. Being that this was a Love Inspired Romance I expected religion to be in it, but unlike Minton's other one, this one was kind of preachy and it turned me off a bit. I can handle a little bit but I have trouble believing there are people out there that talk like the people in this book do about religion. Especially since all the characters in the town seem to do it. But as you may expect, since this is a Love Inspired, there are no risque scenes, so appropriate for almost all ages if you will.
I didn't really like it. Characters could have been better, plot had more conflict, and less preaching would have been great. I'll probably still read more of Minton's books though since I liked her other one.
I really liked 'meeting' Jenna and the boys in Willow and Clint's story (A Cowboy's Heart), and was interested to see what their story would hold, now that Jenna's home to stay. I thought it was rather humourous how Adam pretty much got swept into fixing up the camp, even though he was pretty sure he didn't even want to be there in the first place. It showed that Jenna, despite her challenges, is a force to be reckoned with! I do appreciate how Adam was finally able to figure out what he wanted from life, and how he was able to make the choices that would take him there. (3.5 stars)
This was an OK book. I didn't LOVE the writing. It was choppy, and relationships were kind of iffy. I didn't really believe the way things worked out. ..Adam Mackenzie moves to Oklahoma to finish a camp for underprivileged kids. But then he meets Jenna, next door. Mom of twin boys, she wants to stay closed off from relationships, but will Adam make her change her mind? Cute love story. Clean, Christian, without being preachy.
This book wasn't bad but it's not what I've come to expect from Love Inspired books.
The story line was good but the MC's were not developed very well. I felt there was something missing when I finished the book. Even the side characters felt, I guess the best way to say it is 'rushed' & 'untidy'. Their pasts and issues felt brushed over not explored properly.
I enjoyed the book alright so I will still RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
THIS WAS A VERY GOOD BOOK. FAST READ, IT WAS ONE OF THOSE BOOKS YOU KNOW HOW IT WAS GOING TO END BEFORE YOU WERE HAFE WAS THROUGH. BUT IT WAS STILL GOOD.
