The Book of Mormon: A Guide to Christian Living

Rate this book
Rather than delving in mysteries - many of which will not be answered in this life - Dr. Bennion advocates living basic, Christian principles. Instead of trying to prove the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon through ant earthly science, he believes in studying its teachings and letting the truth speak for itself. In this book many of those truths are explained and illustrated with scripture. Some of the subjects covered responding to suffering, service to others, withstanding temptation, obtaining joy, true humility, and repentance.

I am beginning a re-reading of the books of Lowell Bennion after many years. This is my first. I found this to be surprisingly uninterested in the typical questions related to the Book of Mormon. Bennion's book is not a defense of The Book of Mormon's veracity nor even a systematic assessment of its theological premises. His book is instead a thoughtful articulation of its most important principles for living and an explanation about why those principles matter. This helps to keep things simple and focused on the most important values of Christian living, as was Bennion's thrust in almost all that he did and wrote. It is a reminder to read scripture and to seek truth for the sake of understanding how to live a better and more Christian life. There are far too many other motives that can cloud things up for us.
