Tom's new baby brother comes with a lot of surprises. When Tom's mother brings home a new baby brother, things start changing for Tom. Not only is the baby in his crib, but Mom and Dad never have time to read to him, go to the park, or play games. Tom gets very angry at all these changes, but his parents help him to see how much Tom and the baby have in common. For every child that has had a difficult time adjusting to a new baby, Marjorie Newman shows that a little bit of understanding can go a long way. Ken Wilson-Max's simple paintings illustrate the true excitement and sweetness of a new baby.
This a perfectly fine book about introducing a new baby to an older sibling. In it the older brother experiences some excitement but also some jealousy at the new baby. Which I am sure happens and this would be a good book to share once the new baby has arrived. Right now in our house my daughter is still just excited about the new baby to come. I didn't read this book to her because I didn't want to introduce the jealousy problem before it is actually a problem. I can alway re-request it from the library when needed!
Not a bad "Hey, you're going to be a big brother" book for kids. I changed the name of the older boy (as well as the gender and name of the baby) so my son's name and he liked it. It's nothing outstanding, but a good read to reassure kids that they will indeed remain special and their family loves them just as much even after their little brother or sister arrives.
As this type of book goes (new baby in the house), this one was more appealing than most with bold illustrations welcoming to storytime audience and text that is clear and concise related to the changes in Tom's life. Would recommend to parent asking for this type of book.
Another day, another new baby book. This one handles the subject better than a lot of others. Tom's meltdown seems warranted and his conversation with his parents was handled very well.
I didn't like that the little boy screams "I hate that baby" I know it happens, but it felt like it was just too much for a story time book (would be better read 1-1)
