Blackmailed by her conniving ex-husband, senator's daughter Tess Kendrick went from America's sweetheart to--that awful woman-- how could she?' Coming back to Camelot, Virginia, Tess was older and certainly wiser than when she'd left--and was in need of some shelter for herself and her little boy.Bodyguard Jeff Parker's job was to guard the beautiful heiress against paparazzi and local gossipmongers, but all the mud being slung Tess's way was her problem. Until he learned she'd destroyed her own reputation to save her father's. Suddenly, play-by-the-rules Parker would do anything to protect the woman and child he never expected to fall for.--
Award-winning author Christine Flynn was once told by a creative writing professor that she would save herself a lot of grief if she would limit her love of books to reading rather than attempting to write. Taking his words to heart, she dropped his class and wrote very little until fifteen years later when her husband gave her a Silhouette Romance which he'd received free with the gift-wrap of her mother's day present. She doesn't remember what he bought her (neither does her husband), but she remembers the book. As a person who had always found relationships fascinating, especially the often-complicated relationships between men and women, the writing she had always wanted to do had finally found its focus. Now considered "one of the genre's master storytellers" by Romantic Times Magazine, her work regularly appears on national best-seller lists, including USA Today and Waldenbooks.
Jeff Parker takes one the unwelcoming task of bodyguard for a rich woman with a very tainted reputation. Tess Kendrick had hoped that her self-imposed year long exile would have served to let people forget the stories her ex-husband had spread about her, but she soon learns that they are still there.
As Parker gets to know Tess, he finds she does not fit the mold he tried to place her in. She obviously loves her young son, and seems to want to make something of her life. He doesn't see the promiscuousness or boredom her ex-husband claimed broke up their marriage, but she never denied it either.
Tess knows she can not let the world know the truth about her abusive ex-husband and their divorce. The fact that he continues to blackmail her about inappropriate photos of her father, shows nothing has changed since she was gone. Finding out she does not have to go it alone, and can share her fears and dreams with Parker, shows her that true love can work.
This was my favorite in the series I think. Tess seemed so much more down to earth than her siblings and I really liked Jeff. Mikey was also an adorable little boy. i did feel kind of annoyed by how every in Camelot seemed to believe the rumors about Tess' divorce. I just don't get into all that celebrity gossip but I guess there also isn't anyone "famous" like that who lives around me either.
