Heavy summer rains have threatened widespread flooding in rural Pennsylvania. The town of Burns, an isolated little valley of less than thirty inhabitants, is evacuated. The residents have been sent packing until the weather lets up... only to never have been heard from again.
Burns has inexplicably vanished off the map.
Ex-investigator Harley Cawthorne is no stranger to finding missing persons. When her private policing firm is contracted to look into these disappearances, what they step into isn't as simple as a spooky ghost town.
Power is non-existent, homes have been ransacked, and bizarre shadows can be seen stalking the team from the woods. As night falls, Harley's own security personnel begin to vanish.
Perhaps Burns isn't so abandoned after all. It seems that amid the storm and the rain, something or someone has taken up residence. And it is much more unwelcoming than the weather.
Evan Yarema is a self-published author who prefers to work in the realm of suspense, horror, and mystery. He has published eight novels so far.
Strong protagonists are his bread-and-butter, and often he's most comfortable when his characters are gathered around a bar, bantering with each other.
He's a native to Eastern Pennsylvania where he lives with his wife and cats. True to the settings and characters of his novels, Evan is a former private investigator, gun salesman, and a security "Knave" at a casino... that may or may not have been haunted.
The Loners are back! Okay, so they never really went away. The Rogues is the fourth in a series of loosely connected stories featuring a rotating cast of characters. But don't worry. Again, I can't stress the words "loosely connected" enough. They're each stand-alone, so if you're starting with The Rogues, you won't be lost. If you'd like to unpack the back-stories of some of these characters, I encourage you to go back and read about their younger days in the previous novels. This story is meant to fall into place as the finale.
I don't know if I'll stay true to that promise or not, but who knows?
I'll be brief. I don't know how this one will be received by regular readers. I don't necessarily have a favorite, myself, but I can safely say that of my four, THIS one was the MOST fun to write. Definitely more action and thriller oriented than my others. Hope you enjoy!
