“Freedom is a lack of chains. After that, it is up to you.” –James Terrin, the Defiant.
One had to face struggle, weakness and pain before one could become strong.
The war for freedom has begun. The oppressed aliens and humans unite towards one goal : fight against Imperia and their slavery and oppression. A dynamic and exciting story, full of upheavals and emotive encounters, the moral issues displayed at their maximum. The psychological effect is overpowering. The in-depth of the characters- both humans and aliens is what has drawn me to the plot, an intriguing and thrilling alien background. I was devastated at the unexpected end! Can’t wait to read book 10!
I am voluntarily giving a review of an advance copy I received from the author.

In this part of the continuing series, James and his group of Defiants are settling in to a new world to live in. It shows the meeting between human and edal warpmancers when James meets Ra'Lien and they both use their powers against Imperial forces to help to give freedom to the other worlds. Engaging characters and exciting battles ensue. There are always lots to encounter in Nicholas' storeis, back stories of each character and alien politics too, plus the excitement of the battles and not knowing how it might all end, or indeed continue. Well done Nicholas and can't wait to read the next instalment.

This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story. This is not my normal reading material. I am glad I read this story though it has very strong characters and a well written story. I am glad I read this story.

I have to wait for book #10? Sounds like I've lost my purpose
Oh, lest I forget, the author is a murderer! He kills off characters like no man's business. But, all in all this series is amazing!

Dang it all to hell, I've got to wait for the next book.......... Noooooooo!!!!!!!

Loved every bit of this book and now I have to wait for the next one. I'm disappointed but eager to the next installment.
A fantastic adventure with amazing characters that you end up caring for.
A true space opera, that entertains and at the same time makes you think about the price of freedom.

The over-arching story of Nicholas Woode-Smith’s Warpmancer series is growing ever more complex and interesting. This is great stuff, and Conquest, book nine in the series, certainly does a great job building on it even more. Wonderful characters here, not just James Terrin and Re'lein, who are superbly crafted, but the entire cast. My only caveat to this series is that it’s one you really need to start with at book 1. Otherwise is total enjoyment. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

S__t Nicholas. What an ending! You'd better have the next book plotted out, not sure I WANT to wait for this story to continue!

Ok, you've got my initial feelings.

Life and conflicts continue for James and Re'lein! The story gets more and more tightly compressed. Hidden jewels in earlier books are brought into focus as they fall in place.

This was an outstanding read, with enough action and adventure to satisfy anyone. The characters are realistic and emotional. It is but a pause in the Warpmancer universe and one hell of a cliffhanger. I sure hope Nicholas gets back on this series soon. Enjoy the ride, I am!

Great story, leaves you wanting for more. This book is more centred on relationships, economics, philosophy, sacrifice, purpose than fighting in the previous books.
