Race Wilcox and Derrick Steele are best friends and co-stars of a mildly popular television series perpetually on the verge of cancellation. Promotion and ratings are high priority for the network. So when a Halloween party turns into a huge publicity event, Race and Derrick are obliged to attend. Race hates the idea, and only the fact that Derrick will be there makes the idea bearable... until he finds out Derrick's girlfriend will be there too. The sudden flare of jealousy stuns Race, and there will be many more surprises to come during and after the party, surprises that will affect Race and Derrick's relationship forever.
EM Lynley writes gay erotic romance. She loves books where the hero gets the guy and the loving is 11 on a scale of 10. Her Precious Gems series is best described as “Indiana Jones meets Romancing the Stone”—only gayer. The Delectable series is Gay Romance with Taste.
A Rainbow Award winner and EPPIE finalist, EM has worked in high finance, high tech, and in the wine industry, though she'd rather be writing hot, romantic man-on-man action. She spent 10 years as an economist and financial analyst, including a year as a White House Staff Economist, but only because all the intern positions were filled. Tired of boring herself and others with dry business reports and articles, her creative muse is back and naughtier than ever. She has lived and worked in London, Tokyo and Washington, D.C., but the San Francisco Bay Area is home for now.
She is the author of Sex, Lies & Wedding Bells, the Precious Gems series from Dreamspinner Press, and the Rewriting History series starring a sexy jewel thief, among others. Her books are available in print and e-book from Amazon & other book distributors.
"Disguises" is, in my opinion, the best book yet by the multifaceted E.M. Lynley.
Set in the fishbowl publicity swirl of Hollywood, Race Wilcox and Derrick Steele are co-stars in an action TV drama plus best friends on the side.
The evolving relationship between Race and Derrick is the backbone of the book, and is described deftly and colorfully. Lynley has a knack for making us see through the eyes and heart of a character ~ through their disguises. The subtle subtext of humor in the dialogue between the various characters just adds to the pleasure of reading this classy book. I highly recommend it.
This one was alright. Race Wilcox and Derrick Steele are best friends and co-stars of a mildly popular television series perpetually on the verge of cancellation. They are required to attend a Halloween party by the network execs. Race is reluctant but goes along with Derrick and Derrick's long-time GF, Stella. To make a long story short .
This book was a short read with so-so characters and a lukewarm storyline. Race and Derrick were okay but I never really felt their supposed chemistry. There was more chemistry between Race and Stella! The GFY was too extreme IMHO. Race suddenly fell in lust and fortuitously realized he was also in love. There were some funny lines in the story but not much else.
Two best friends and colleagues end up being something more after a few enlightening moments at a Halloween party.
Race is the kind of man who is cranky almost 24/7, but caring and considerate towards those who mean something to him. Derrick on the other hand, has a cheerful, bright and warm personality, but firm and aggressive when need be. They have in common their hard working together and how much they value their friendship with each other.
After both attending a party hosted by the network they're working for, they come to realise their feelings for each other. Granted there was some whipping, beating and lots of aloe vera gel that might kind of throw the reader off track, it's a good book.
The characters not only identify their emotions, but also voice them clearly and act upon them. The author manages to depict both a soft and a harder side to the two protagonists, which only makes them even more endearing. Despite this being a short book, and the transition from best friends to lovers wasn't exactly smooth, it felt quite solid and well-developed for its' biggest part.
