A Remarkable Visual Eyewitness Account Mixing Documentary and Art
Photographic images have conveyed powerful messages of world events, often creating indelible impressions. In journalistic photography, this important book has to rank among the top collections. Gary Suson was the official photographer at the World Trade Center in New York City for both the Uniformed Firefighters Association and the Uniformed Fire Officers Association. What make his photographs so gripping are the expressions of the people - there was physical devastation of awesome proportions, but it was the people who were involved who were the true story. With his access to all parts of the terrible scene, Gary Suson has assembled an indelible photographic essay of all parts of the human drama, especially the people who came together to help, from the rescuers, firefighters, police officers, doctors, and nurses to two little girls who enchanted a room of people, bringing them tears of joy with their angelic singing. Requiem: Images of Ground Zero is much more than what the title suggests. It is a first-hand historic and sociological document of immense importance.
I enjoyed this book. Gary was the only photographer allowed into the ground zero area to take photographs during the recovery and cleanup efforts. I was fortunate to get a copy of this book autographed by Gary. I purchased the book on September 11, 2011 in NYC---the ten year memorial.
Where were you 9/11 2001? A child embraced by America and all its hopes and "Glitter" of scheduled events, work and sleeping in on an escape from the work day blues or deadlined stress of Wall Street will never forgot 9/11. 9/11 -Perhaps a child born today won't remember that fateful day unless we care! As long as I walk , breathe and love I will herald Gary Marlon Suson's Torch of Hope-The Requiem. The blink of an eye -that nano second ignited millions -glued to the tube of up to the minute stories! Those Brave media Corporations laid a foundation upon which the horror of loss blazed on. Who will never understand the careless acts of twisted, crushed fusions of horror that stole our Twins and more critically our freedom . Horror, loss and those left behind in ashed fusion would forever more diminish our ability to venture forth without fear of loss or attack.
As Governments clash and Bull horned arguments rage on, 9/11 will remain for most of us a testament to love, freedom of speech and the rights granted under the constitution. SAHNBCT2018
I had the privlege of meeting the author who was the official FDNY photographer who covered not only the events of 09/11/2001, but the rescue and recovery efforts in and around the World Trade Center site.
