having just finished the prequel to the actual story, I am siting here crying and am a sobbing mess. If you pulled me in that fast, I can't imagine what I'm in for!

The prequel was far different from the actual first story, but I loved them both! In the prequel, we get to see the princess grow from a young girl to a fighting princess and evil take over her world. The friendships in that story are intense and I cried when they cried.

Flying Girl is the first book and is the ancestor of the princess from the prequel. She has to learn a few lessons of her own. Egg is a very sweet girl and her only fault is her over desire to win. Her Grammy helps her through that so easily though.

Then she gets to fly. Who doesn't want to fly? I look forward to seeing where this story goes.

Rose was described as intelligent three different ways in the first few pages. She acted extremely stupid, however, and called science and technology boring. She was bored with a portal to another universe and immaturely made the scientist work on her own project. Her father overreacted to her recklessness. I get spoiled princesses and character growth arcs, but Rose is too dumb to be at all likable.

Her dragon friend says, "I bet I can do something you can't!"
Rose says, "Not a chance."
"I can fly!"
Rose says, "I didn't think of that. I'm usually much smarter than you. How did you ever outsmart me?"

Paraphrased conversation, but still.

Flying Girl, the first book in the Egg and the Hameggattic Sisterhood series, is a wonderful tale of an ordinary girl with an extraordinary gift. Eloise, called EGG by her family and friends, has a wonderful relationship with an understanding grandmother who guides her through the pitfalls of childish selfishness and poor sportsmanship to greater maturity. This maturity will be necessary if she is to learn and keep the family secret: Egg has a destiny to be the next heroine to wear the flying suit and help others. Plus, there is a mystery of three magic items to be uncovered...

I think this is a wonderful book to read to children for a bedtime story. It teaches forgiveness, kindness, and how to mature. Great for a grandparent or parent to gift to a child as well. I found it to be a very cute and short read so it may take a week to read to a child at bedtime. It is the first in the series so this story could become a traditional read. I recommend it.

What a wonderful way to teach about friendship and courage. By becoming Flying Girl, Egg learns the things we all need to learn in our lives, and it's taught to us without being preachy and in a way that kids can understand. What a wonderful book for kids and adults.

Flying Girl left me hanging which was its intent. The adventures of 10 year-old Princess Rose are nothing short of fantastic, life with two different types of intelligent dragons, the others prefer to be called Serpents as they are of the sea.

Flying Girl is a superhero, science fiction, fantasy book that begins with life on the planet, Aerianna, a peaceful place where humanoid, dragon, and serpent species live harmoniously in what appears to be a monarchical society. When the monarchy is overthrown, the King's noncompliant daughter begins a resistance campaign against Mobius the vile, that will last a long time but is destined to fail.

A thousand years into the future, on a different planet, a young girl of nine years old is gifted a suit and sundry tools as weapons, very much in the paradigm of Ironman. Her initials are EGG, so her family calls her that while her best friend is named Hampton or Ham. The girls form a group, The Hameggattic Sisterhood and add other friends to fill the ranks, but sometimes friends rub you the wrong way and friendships dissipate.

Flying Girl eventually becomes a key piece to restoring Aerianna to its previous incarnation, but that is more surmise than actual narrative. This book ends with an implicit projection of a better future improved by Flying Girl from Earth probably in Book 2 or Book 3. Egg's Grandmother is also an important aspect necessary to the story.

Good read; fun story with strong foreshadowing.

I have read the whole first adventure - which I think is 7 books plus a prequel, The Sword and the Rose. Very cute! Chapter book format. Great for grade school girls - not sure how much boys past 2nd grade or so would like it as most (but not all) of the interesting people are girls. Good read aloud for the not-quite-ready-to-read-it-myself crowd as well.

This is an enjoyable book for grade school. It's a bit simplistic for middle school and older. Life has lessons, and the characters in this book learn them.
