Kris Sierra has wanted Ashley Moreau for a very long time. Problem is: Ashley is the brother of Kris’ best friend… and Ashley isn’t out. When they finally give into the attraction between them, it sets off a chain of events that culminate in Ashley coming out to Kris’ parents, who are trying to set Kris up with a woman, in a rather dramatic way.

Apparently a light story about two young men who find each other and love together, As Above, So Below is also the telling of two different coming outs, welcomed in two different ways, but both of them with the same result, the loss of what was family till the day before and the need to build your new safe shelter in the arms of your lover.
When Kris, now 30 years old, came out to his parents when he was still a teenager, his revelation was welcomed by a stubborn refusal to admit the truth, his parents behave like he said nothing, like he is passing a phase, that some day, sooner or later, he will wake up to see the mistake in his way of life. Anyone else would have left town, to find his way, and to prove that it was not a phase, but Kris has a reason to stay there, Ashley.
Ashley is the baby brother of Kris’s best friend, and even if it’s years that Kris is in love with the kid, he has never done anything, both for fear of a refusal, but also since Ashley has never displayed any interest in Kris or in men. But then one night, during a lightning storm, Ashley seems a different man, he is authoritative and domineering and he seduces Kris, and Kris obviously has no intention to refuse him. But the morning after they have to face Ashley’s family, and the reaction is not of indifference like for Kris, Ashley is practically disowned, and he suddenly looses everything. Will Kris’s love being enough to support Ashley in his search of his own way in life?
Two coming outs, two reactions, two men and one love… probably the equation works only if there is the last addendum, the love allows Kris and Ashley to not feel alone, the love allows them to be reckless.
There is a bit of paganism, Ashley is influenced by weather or weather is influenced by Ashley’s mood, it’s not clear, and maybe it’s not even important, it’s only another way to demonstrate that Kris and Ashley are bared in front of feelings, that sometime they are not able to control them, like you can’t really control the weather.
Ash is the little brother of Kris' best friend, very far in the closet and apparently a weather witch, able to control the weather. This really isnt explored enough, and it conflicts with the coming out issues. Maybe the story was just too short to fully develop everything, but it seems the weather issue should have been sidelined, in order to more fully develop the rest. Bigotry is addressed fairly briefly, but the two of them do make a nice couple.
Short read about two young guys, one is in the closet since his parents are very bigoted. They make a cute couple, I just wish it had been a bit longer so the fact that one MC seems to be able to control the weather could have been explored a bit!
