Rate this book
Briefly describes the ancient civilizations of Pompeii, China, Egypt and the Americas. People, animals, and places, from ancient times to the present, spring to life from these imaginative and entertaining pop-up books. Multitiered illustrations will delight young readers as well as adults. These highly involving books have from five to seven pop-up spreads and, in most cases, one or two action devices on every page.

Nancy Price - Picture Book: Secret Treasures by Catherine Herbert Howell

Not only is this book filled with wonderful pictures but it is also a pop-up book. It tells about Tutankhamen in Egypt around 1350 B.C.; XI'AN in China around 210 B.C.; Pompeii in Italy around A.D. 79; The Mayan in Guatemala around A.D. 800; and Mesa Verde in Colorado, USA around A.D. 1250. Each pop-up picture shows great detail about life during these times and in these places. There are even moving parts that make it a bit interactive. I think books like these help keep young adults interested and help them learn more without them realizing they are learning something.
