A few weeks before Christmas, medium Emma Whitecastle begins hearing the voice of a young boy named Kaleb asking for help. At first she thinks it is the spirit of a deceased child, but soon realizes the boy is very much alive and communicating with her telepathically. This is new territory for Emma and Granny Apples. Is the boy missing? Why does he need help? Their communication is sketchy and frustrating for Emma. Two days later there is a report of a missing boy with the same name. Emma, Phil, and Granny team up with detectives to find the boy, racing against the clock before it is too late for the child.
Sue Ann Jaffarian is the author of the popular Odelia Grey mystery series, the Ghost of Granny Apples mystery series and the Madison Rose vampire mysteries, as well as short stories.
Sue Ann also writes the Winnie Wilde romance novellas.
Like the character Odelia Grey, Sue Ann Jaffarian is a middle-aged, plus-sized paralegal. She lives in Los Angeles.
What a fascinating premise! I don’t know much about telepathy but I learned right along with Emma. It was a welcome change from Emma’s usual dealing with ghosts (although that is what I love about this series) and allows her to work with a child; killing a child is a big no-no in cozies. This story drew me in right away and did not let go until the satisfying conclusion. I have missed Granny (and Odelia) and hope we get more stories in the future.
Note: Sue Ann Jaffarian now lives full-time in her RV and posts about her adventures every day. Follow her on Facebook: The Novel RV.
I received a copy from the author but this did not influence my review in any way.
This short story opens with Emma Whitecastle receiving a cry for help in the middle of the night. She’s confused because it doesn’t appear to be coming from a ghost. It sounds like a young child. Can she figure out who is calling for her help?
This is a short story in the author’s Ghost of Granny Apples series. Fans who want a quick check-in will be delighted with it. If you are new, it would be a good way to sample the characters, too. The characters are solid, and the mystery is wonderful, with plenty to keep me engaged as Emma and Granny follow a logical path to a suspenseful climax. The Christmas setting is fun, too. Being a short story, I read this is a little over an hour. If you are looking for a fun, Christmas themed short story, you’ll be glad you picked this one up.
In this novella, Emma, a medium gets to deal with young boy who has been kidnapped and help the police find where he is being hidden. She uses her great great whatever number of great grandmother who is still around in spirit form from colonial days to run interference for long along with the ghost of the boy's mother.
Turns out it is all over former cell mates in prison involving drugs have as an issue that includes the mother as well. There is a lot of tension involving heavy snow in mountains and dealing with witnesses who are too young or too ghosty to really know where a building they are in is.
I recommend it for those that want a simple mystery that is solved very quickly and has a Christmas theme along with a supernatural flair.
Aww I always love a good Granny Apples adventure. This one was just as wonderful as the others. Family and friends coming together to solve another unique mystery. I wish this series had more to read but I don’t see any more adventures listed. That’s too bad because this is such a great series. Fun, witty, adventurous, always surprising…and full of heart. ❤️❤️
Love me a Granny mystery! A great way to start off my Christmas break! Emma discovers more special talents. Be sure to get your copy of this great Granny Christmas mystery!
Once again Sue Ann has treated us to a fun Granny Apples book. This a little different as Emma is not helping a ghost but a very much alive little boy in big trouble
