Rate this book
Rina's an multi-racial teen, adopted from families who broke their ties. Raised overseas by older white parents working on international military bases, Rina doesn't ever remember living in the United States.

When her parents' divorce, they've moved 'back home.' Now she gets to experience the full meal Immersion in American culture, first on a Wild West week camp and then, scariest of all, starting as a freshman in a California high school with no friends. Her life couldn't possibly get worse, right?

And when things get bad, what will her mom do? Take her sailing, of course. Yes, it's calmer on the water, but sometimes the storm approaching isn't the one you thought it was.

Come out for a stressful sail to survive in this first (chronological) story in the DESERTED LANDS bat virus pandemic universe, set before 2014's ALL IS SILENCE.

Leave 'Em wanting more....

Being a prequel story, if you are familiar with Slater's other work you know where it's going. A little disjointed and some typos but I love his ability to give his characters a voice.
