I read Luke for the first time many moons ago when I was just discovering romance novels of the spicier nature, if you catch my drift. You know, graphic sexy times and stuff. At the time I thought Trinity and Luke, her dirty cowboy were hot as hell. Now, not so much. Unfortunately the suspense and intrigue were lacking as well. Don't get me wrong, this is still a hot read. The revised addition and subsequent addition of even more drug trafficking and government info managed to slow the story down in general, including the sexy.
And the term "pleasure button" was used more than once. Just sayin'.

4 stars – Romantic Suspense/Erotica
Trinity MacKenna has returned to her family’s ranch in Arizona after an extended time living and working in London to visit her older sister Skylar while waiting for her prestigious new job to begin. She harbors painful memories of growing up as an awkward, overweight teen on the ranch and living in her beautiful, popular sister Skylar’s shadow, and even though she’s now a thin, sexy, successful career woman, those old insecurities resurface once she’s back in her hometown. She plans to keep the holiday ranch visit short and sweet, while pondering some major life decisions, like where she wants to live next with her new company and whether or not she wants to marry her English boyfriend of two years, Race Bentham, who’s hinted at an upcoming Christmas proposal.
The last thing Trinity wants is a sinfully sexy, dark, dangerous, determined, possessive, badass, alpha cowboy turning her safe world upside down, keeping her in a perpetual lust filled state, and staking claims, but that’s exactly what she gets (and perhaps what she needs) when she meets undercover DEA agent and black chaps and Stetson wearing cowboy Luke Denver, aka Luke Rider.
The two main reasons I rated this 4 stars are yummy-as-sin, studtastic cowboy Luke and the smokin’ hot, erotic sex scenes because the suspense plot involving drug smuggling and border turf wars is rather weak and there is fairly minimal relationship or romantic development between the H/H. Seriously, Trinity is so completely consumed by raw animalistic lust for Luke that she only manages to utter about five coherent sentences to him for about the first 100+ pages and they don’t have many conversations other than “I want you” and “you’re mine”. The majority of their time together is spent having hot, wild sex, but at least it’s plenty steamy. Whew! They engage in a little bit of voyeurism and exhibitionism (accidental of course), mutual masturbation, some naughty hot tub fun, anal sex during a raunchy barn office tryst (and Luke keeps his leather chaps and Stetson hat on), and even finally manage to make it to a bed. It’s marketed as romantic suspense, but it’s definitely on the erotic side.
Even though the suspense aspect of the story and relationship development between the H/H were somewhat lacking, it was still worth the read (for me) for hunky agent/cowboy Luke and the scorching hot sex. So, although more attention could have been paid to enhancing the plot and characters and making the HEA a bit more believable, overall it was a satisfying, erotic romantic suspense read.

This series book/series has gotten a lot of so-so reviews. More than a few people don't like the fact that it is a rewrite of McCray's "Wild" series for Ellora's Cave. I didn't read that series so the storylines are all new to me. I read the first book and thought it was okay...a little above average. But I enjoyed this one a bit more. The characters, romance, and plot kept me reading.
Summary:
Trinity MacKenna (sister of Skylar from Zack) has been avoiding home since she left years ago. After growing up in the shadow of her sister, and being the victim of the terrible nickname "Meaty MacKenna" she's worked hard to turn her life around. Now she's got a good job, a steady boyfriend on the verge of proposing, and a sexy body from regular workouts. But after the trouble her sister has recently been through, she decides to return home for a little while.
Her first day home, she encounters sexy cowboy Luke Rider who turns her on in every way possible. Luke lay claim to her before she can even blink and Trinity must face some truths about her life. Review:
This book has got some seriously smokin' hot love scenes! Whew! Which was one of the things that made it so engaging to read. But I also liked the characters, especially Trinity.
I liked the fact that weight loss was part of her image change. Weight is such a big thing these days and you don't see it dealt with enough in romance books. So I respected that aspect of Trinity. And I could totally understand her internal conflict on going back home, back to a place that had caused her so much anguish. I just enjoyed reading about her and thought the author did a good job making her character relatable.
Luke was a good character as well. After I read the back of the book, I wasn't sure how I would like that whole thing about him not caring that she was involved, he was going to have her anyway. I'm not a big fan of people purposefully breaking up relationship. But the author played it out perfectly and I thought the way Luke handled Trinity's existing relationship perfectly. It was very endearing how he acted.
Plus, the two had some seriously blazing chemistry together. I mean, jeez, there's some major heat in this book. There's a real eroticism to the book without going over the top. That office scene was cold-shower worthy.
There's also a bit of a suspense plot to the story. It's not real heavy or too involved, but it was developed enough that it had me interested and kept me reading. I actually wouldn't have minded if it were a bigger part of the book.
The suspense also let readers get to know other (male) characters who I'm guessing will be leads in upcoming books. And I also liked that Skylar and Zack from the previous book were in this one and you got to catch up with them.
Was this book perfect, 5-star worthy, though? No, I wouldn't go that far. Solid 4-stars for me. Even though I liked it a lot, it didn't make it into that LOVED IT category. And I also thought that the emotional relationship between Luke and Trinity could have been stronger. A large portion of their relationship is based on the sexual passion and they don't get to know each other very well, at least among what was written. I would have liked to see them develop a deeper connection.
But even without that, this was an enjoyable book. For me, it was better than the last one and I'll look forward to reading future books in this series.

Luke is the second book in Cheyenne McCray’s Armed & Dangerous series. It’s been eons since I read Zack, the first book, but as it turns out, this one stood well enough on it’s own for me to not feel particularly lost. It follows Trinity, the younger sister of Skylar, the heroine of Zack, and Luke, the foreman of Skylar’s Flying M ranch who is actually an undercover DEA agent. The Flying M is located on the US/Mexico border near the small town of Douglas, Arizona. Luke has been monitoring the area for drug running activity and has been looking to take down drug kingpin Francisco Guerrero. Trinity has been away from home in England, where she’s been working for a video gaming company. Although she’s missed her sister, bad memories of her high school years in Douglas have kept her away. Now it’s the holiday season and she’s finally decided to come home for a visit. She’s been in a two-year relationship with Race, a nice British guy who she’s pretty sure is about to propose, but when she meets Luke at a Christmas party and shares a steamy kiss with him, she immediately realizes that the passion she’d always longed for is missing from her relationship with Race. She breaks it off with him via phone, and days later is enjoying the hottest sex of her life with Luke. But Trinity isn’t sure she can ever get past the events that led to her leaving Douglas in order to have a desire to live there again even if her job will allow it. And there’s also the drug trade situation that’s heating up. Luke suspects that a local woman is helping Guerrero, but if he doesn’t figure out who it is in time, she may pose a threat to his and Trinity’s newfound love.

Throughout high school, Trinity struggled with being overweight, which led to her receiving a lot of bullying and an unkind nickname from her classmates. After graduation, she was more than happy to knock the dust of Douglas off her feet and never look back. Straight out of college, she took a job with a video gaming company in England and has lived there ever since. She’s been dating Race for two years. It’s a comfortable relationship and she’s all but certain that he’s going to propose when they get together for the Christmas holiday, but she isn’t entirely sure that’s what she wants. Trinity finally returns to Douglas, and on her first night back, she encounters Luke at a Christmas party thrown by her best friend. The attraction is immediate and visceral, and after sharing a steamy kiss with him, she knows that it’s the passion that’s missing from her relationship with Race. After breaking up with him, she quickly falls into a steamy affair with Luke and begins to crave something more, but after all that happened when she was younger, she isn’t sure she can ever stay in Douglas permanently. Overall, I liked Trinity fairly well. I could relate to her still carrying the scars of her high school bullying and her body image issues even though she’s now lost a lot of weight and is quite svelte. She also showed bravery when facing off with the villain. The only thing I didn’t really care for was her being in a serious long-term relationship when the story started and then ditching her boyfriend so quickly when something better, namely Luke, came along. It made her seem a little cold-hearted in the beginning, but my impression of her improved as the story went on.
Luke has strong family ties back home in Houston, Texas, but he’s been away working undercover for the DEA for some time. His cover persona is that of the foreman for the Flying M, so everyone in the area thinks he’s just another cowboy. However, his real objective is to find enough dirt on Guerrero to take him down. That’s proved to be challenging, but he finally gets a break when it looks like Guerrero might be using a local woman to help keep his drug running under wraps. Luke just isn’t sure which one. While trying to chat up a few of the ladies at a Christmas party, he’s instantly hot and bothered by the appearance of Trinity, and without another thought, he stakes his claim on her with a searing kiss. When he discovers that she’s the sister of his “boss” on the ranch, it makes it all the easier to pursue her and he does so with a passion. But until he solves the mystery of who is helping Guerrero, both she and her sister may be in danger. When the story began, Luke was a little too possessive for my taste, instantly saying that Trinity was his. He doesn’t even respect the fact that she’s in a relationship with another man and immediately jumps to the conclusion that the guy must be a loser if he hasn’t put a ring on her yet, which I thought was pretty arrogant on his part. As the story progressed, though, I started liking him a bit more. He was still a little too alpha for me, but not as bad as some other heroes I’ve read. He might not go down as one of my all-time favorite romance heroes, but overall, he ended up being a pretty decent guy.
I think it took me so long to get around to reading Luke because the first book of the series had just been okay for me and didn’t leave me a strong desire to continue. I recall that the best thing about Zack was the steamy love scenes and that pretty much held true for Luke as well. If you’re looking for a strong romantic suspense story, this isn’t really it. In all honesty, I found the suspense portion of the plot rather confusing. There were a few too many characters and not enough depth in their characterizations for me keep them all straight. I thought that perhaps it was because many of them were going to get their own stories in the series, and at least a couple of characters were intriguing enough to make me interested in reading more about them. But unfortunately that isn’t the case. The only characters we meet who go on to get their own book are Clay, the local sheriff, and Rylie, another nearby ranch owner, who become the hero and heroine of the next book, Clay. It was also pretty obvious to me who the villainess was. The only thing that was a bit of a surprise was her motivation. I mentioned earlier about being bothered by the fact that Trinity was in a serious relationship when the story began, and I felt that the way that all played out was way too easy. After the phone breakup, Race comes to try to convince Trinity to reconcile to no avail, but then walks away without a fight and seems completely unbothered during the final pages when he’s at a party where Luke and Trinity are caught en flagrante delicto. This was all rather unbelievable and I honestly thought the story would have been better without this side plot at all, because it left me with bad vibes. As I said before, the love scenes were probably the best part of the book. They’re very well written and smokin’ hot. My only small complaint would be that while hot passionate sex is great, there’s also something to be said for a slow seduction as well and there wasn’t any of that in this book. Bottom line, if you’re looking for a great romantic suspense story, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere, but if you’re in the mood for a little steamy, mindless fun with a touch of suspense on the side, then Luke will probably fit the bill. Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was and might be open to continuing the series at some point.

Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was and might be open to continuing the series at some point.

4.5 stars....When is GR going to finally let us rate a book with half stars? LOL
What to say about Luke??? Uh super sexy alpha with a penchant for sex while others are watching, purely by accident of course.
This was a very good, suspense filled sex fest, a scorching page turner. Fat girl gets skinny and gets the sexy cowboy/DEA agent. Both Luke and Trinity are likable without many past hang-ups. Sometimes it is nice to have and H/h that are somewhat normal.
I checked McCray's website and there are two more books planned in the series right now. I, for one, cannot wait.

Who knew cowboys where so sexy. The story is gripping and I didn't see the bad guy coming. It was also a nice touch to have the non law enforcement officer take the bad guy out in a very satisfying way. Word of warning!!!! Do not read the barn scene on the bus the other commuters may start to think your having a when harry met sally moment and you will defiantly need a fan to cool you back down.

2nd book in series. It's the story of Skylar's sister Trinity and Luke the undercover DEA agent working at the MacKenna ranch. Trinity home 4 years ago to find her true self. She has always felt inferior to Sky and was picked on about her weight. She went to London and got a job in software development. She lost weight and found a nice calm British boyfriend that she thought was her ideal plan. When all the trouble at the ranch was being investigated Sky called Trinity to come home. Trinity did come home but she didn't want to be there because she thought that her would turn back to her old self. That is until she meets Luke at a Christmas party. Luke takes one look at Trinity and is drawn to her immediately. He feels familiar with her but knows he's never met her. She is totally captured by his dark dangerous feel but thinks he way to wild for her. Later when they find out who each other are he tells her he wants her but only if she agrees to be his. She realizes that her boyfriend is not the one for her and calls him and breaks up with him. During all this time Luke and Zack are still working on the drug smuggling problem that has hurt the town. Trinity starts to help the case as she knows a program that can analyze footprints. The case continues to plague their ranch and thing turn dangerous.

'Luke' was fascinating. Its captivating page-turning plot was filled with breaking up, developing a lust-filled relationship, suspense, tension, action, and love. Luke and Trinity, the protagonists, were ideally suited for each other and oozed chemistry. I loved the vivid details the author provided as they created a tense/mysterious tone. However, I was a little confused about the time frame; somehow, I hadn't realized it had been a year since the main characters met. Nevertheless, I liked the energetic narrative.

I'm confused
So this book... I am sure the author had everyone straight in her mind, however I had so much trouble I was so confused. The female main character had 2 different names and a nickname, the male main character had 2 different last names, the girls friend I couldn't figure out if Nicole and Neveah were the same person. The begining of the book was such a discombobulated mess that I almost quit. But I was intrigued by the story line a little but not enough to read another Cheyenne McCray book for a long while.

A steamy romance read set by the border between America and Mexico, this story follows on from Zack with the drug cartel, but the main characters change.
Luke has been working undercover and he meets Trinity when she comes to visit her sister. Cue lots of sexual tension and suspense as well as some very steamy scenes.
If you like your romance more locked door, then this one probably isn't for you, but if you don't mind the steam then i would recommend giving this one a go.

Luke Denver is ranch foreman at the Flying M ranch while undercover for DEA. Trinity MacKenna is sister to Skylar MacKenna who runs the ranch. She has been in England for several years and came home for a visit and runs into Luke. She completely forgot her English boyfriend! Luke tells her he’s going to make her his and does. She’s putty in his arms. Instead of returning to England, she intends to stay in Arizona and close to Luke.

Pretty good book. Nice chemistry between the h/h, good sex scenes, and an interesting storyline. As with most romantic suspense novels, parts of the story were a bit over the top, but not terribly so. This was the first book I'd read in this series, but I didn't have any trouble following what was happening. Good read.

It really annoyed me that the main character, Luke, never used Trinity's name. From the second he met Trinity, he only called her "Sugar". Why? Does it require a lot of brain cells to remember her name? What is up with that?

The first 50 pages or so I had to skim because it was just so slow and not enjoyable. The second half was great and full of spice and action. Some parts I felt weren’t well thought out and mentioned characters that you never hear about again. The Spice was the saving grace of this book.

When I discovered romance books oh so many years ago, my tender heart became enamored of a fantasy world of handsome, sexy (though my tender heart was too young to really know true sexiness at the time), men who would take care of their lady no matter what. He would protect her, he would die for her if need be. Luke Denver is that type of hero that I fantasized about then and that I certainly fantasize about now. I’m older now, so the sex in today’s books just make him that much more appealing. And he’s a cowboy. Be still my grown-up heart.
I’ve said in reviews before that I don’t really care about historical accuracy when reading that genre, and the same holds true for me in other genres as well. Since I’m a hero girl, when an author gives me a man like Luke, I don’t care in the slightest about the little details in a story. Yes, if it’s something super outrageous that’s incorrect or whatever, that’s a different thing. Luke is a DEA agent who works with local officers, and I’m sure Ms. McCray did her research on law enforcement, both state and federal, to get procedures and whatnot right. But it wouldn’t have made a bit of difference to me if she hadn’t. As long as it sounded good while Luke was doing it, that’s all I want.
Trinity is nearly in the same boat when she meets Luke. His sexy voice, his Texas drawl, his to-die-for bod, they all add up to the kind of man she could very easily fall for. But she’s only visiting from England for a short time. She could never call the ranch home again, it brings back too many memories of her growing up years when she was teased unmercifully. And she’s nearly engaged to a handsome albeit relatively unexciting Englishman. No wonder the woman’s system goes crazy whenever she’s near Luke.
Keeping his cover doesn’t seem that important the more he gets to know Trinity. Luke will tell her the truth soon, he’s not really the foreman at her sister’s ranch. He’s there to help uncover a drug lord’s illegal business. He wants everything on the up and up with Trinity because he also wants something more with her. Even something more than sex, which is a first for Luke, especially considering his last relationship.
Ms. McCray does a great job with these two characters. You feel their attraction from the beginning, and it’s a very explosive attraction. They can’t keep their hands off each other from the start. Sex for Trinity has been fairly staid, and she can tell immediately with Luke it will take on a whole different meaning. And Trinity is a terrific kick-ass heroine. Kick-boxing is her choice of exercise and it definitely comes in handy for her when facing danger later in the story.
There’s a whole host of other characters, including those from the first book in the series, and they each hold their own. The villain came somewhat as a surprise. As a caveat, this particular book started out as a short story and Ms. McCray has beefed it up for a full-length novel. So if you read the short, take a look at it again. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I originally read Luke way back when it was with Ellora's Cave under the title Wildcard. Since then it has seen character names changed, title changed, and highly expanded....It's a whole new book in my eyes! This was one great story!
We met Trinity in Zack: Armed & Dangerous #1, she is Sky's younger sister and has been off living her life far from the confines of the McKenna ranch and the scrutiny of those she grew up with. Trinity has made some impressive changes in her life, but, still lives with the haunting memories of the way she was treated by the people of her own home town.
Luke is working undercover as the foreman of the McKenna ranch to help with an investigation into a drug smuggling operation. From the moment he spies Trinity, he knows he just has to have her. Trinity has a habit of running from everything and everyone, Luke is just the man to give her the confidence she needs to believe in herself and to finally come home to stay.
These two characters are so much fun to read. Luke is such an alpha/cowboy/cop dude that the testosterone just comes off him in waves...Trinity has gone through so much to reinvent herself while she was away and then discovers that other than the physical changes, she hasn't changed that much at all and she really is the hometown girl she didn't think she wanted to be....
If you like a great story with action, adventure, hot lovin' on a desk, and a confident sexy cowboy who knows how to wear a pair of chaps...then this is the perfect book for you!
