Book 4 in the Amazon #1 Best Selling Paranormal Suspense series!
A dark wind gathers on Chaco Navajo reservation, deep in the heart of New Mexico. Grant Romer, the Keeper of the secret bell, can feel it pulling at his soul. Caroline and Owen work as hard as they can to treat the Navajo, but the dark wind brings a desperation to their clinic that is beyond western medicine.
A stranger arrives ahead of the storm. A powerful medicine man from a faraway clan who goes by the name Jacob Dark Sky. He claims he can heal the people of Chaco with a song. Joey Flatwood and a handful of the other old-school Navajo aren’t so sure. They know Dark Sky isn’t what he seems, and that the cure he offers could end up destroying the very people it’s meant to help, right along with the reservation itself.
To save their home, they will need help from every plane—the land of the living, the land of the dead, and the cold, thin-place between. With the dark wind tearing down everything around them, Grant, Caroline, Owen and Joey turn to Ben Dejooli—known as the Walker—for help.
B. B. Griffith writes best-selling supernatural thrillers. He is the author of the Vanished series, the Tournament series, and the Gordon Pope thrillers. He lives in Denver, CO, where he is often seen sitting on his porch staring off into the distance or wandering to and from local watering holes with his family.
The Vanishing Series by B.B. Griffith. Book 4 - The Wind Thief. What a great series. So glad it sounds like there will be more books in this series. This book is about an evil Navajo who wants to take over the people’s will. It is fascinating. To really enjoy it, you need to read Books 1-3 so you know the background of the characters. I never thought I’d feel like crying over a crow but this is a special crow. Everyone gets into your mind and you think about the actions for days after reading. So, do yourself a favor and read the series. You’ll find you wish you could be there.
This book was better than the third book, and more like the first two supernatural books in this series. Grant, Owen, and Caroline are seeing people on the reservation experiencing more problems than normal. It isn't just poverty, but some type of sickness...the people seem too tired to deal with everything anymore, and some strange blind man, seems to be promising a different world from the current one they are living in. Unfortunately, this change, is changing the people of the Arroyo to the point of them being unable to act on their own. The new stranger seems to be controlling their thoughts and actions, and the bell is acting funny on Grant...being drawn towards this stranger and whatever rites he is performing. Something stinks, and Chacco and the Walker are alarmed.
I thought the series was done, and then I discovered that the author had added more. This is fantasy that involves real people and real places. I have enjoyed all the books because they involve real places, not created places with strange languages. I love the Albuquerque area and the Navajo culture. The author does a masterful job creating characters to love. His books are filled with emotion, as the 4 live heroes, and one dead one, strive to fix things that are out of balance. They are do gooders and we need more of those. The story is fantasy, but. I found myself deciding that it was not as fantastic as I originally thought…in other words, why not?

I thought this was a good way of ending the series, with possibilities of one day, another book could come out of the Thinning. The story that is wrapped around one Navajo reservation. I like the concept of life is o circle, endlessly going around, no beginning and no end. B.B. Griffith likes characters to come from the pages and into readers mind. I just liked reading something I couldn't guess the next thing that was going to happen.
Some inhabitants of the Chaco Navajo Reservation have special powers. Too often those make life more complicated, and they certainly don't curtail the desperation that comes with poverty, substance abuse or discrimination.
Ordinary emotions that can be nurtured in any family are just as powerful. "It's a powerful thing , to have someone care about you and to get that care returned. It has a way of softening even hard luck eighteen-year-olds - cynical physicians, too, and their lovably neurotic nurse life partners."
Another great read that follows the myths and beliefs of the Navaho people. This book captures the spirit of the previous thee books and brings closure at a certain level. All the major characters are present and each character reveals a new level of depth and understanding. The story is mesmerizing as we follow Grant, Kai, Owen, Caroline, Joey and Chaco as they battle what could be and end to the people on the Rez. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Loved the series and this is the 4th! Thoroughly reeled me in and was captivated with each one as the series progressed. However, the author does such a brilliant weaving of the series together and makes it easy to remember and follow from the 1st to to the 4th. I’m a tough critic and bibliophile and was charmed and captivated by the characters and the story telling. Most importantly, the reality of life on a reservation. Thoughtfully and beautifully written. Highly recommend!
I have a new favorite author!! My dad grew up in New Mexico. When I was a young girl, ALL of his family would go camping and fishing in Northern NM. usually we would stay on Indian land and one would come around every day to collect their fee of $1.50 for us to camp on their land. I was fascinated by them and looked forward to them coming by every day. A lot of the stories in these books really take me back. I'm enthralled with this series.
I just finished the series and I think it’s one of the best things I have ever read and believe me I have done more reading in my lifetime than most of you will ever even think about. This is a wonderful yarn and it will draw you in and you will never be able to put it down until you reach the end of the last book in the series.
Just spectacular! This book is so well written. The plot is intricately woven threads of the past and the characters that pulls you along to a surprising and satisfying finish. I waited a long time for this book and it did not disappoint. BB Griffith iOS in my mind the most talented writer of southwestern thrillers around today.
It took me awhile to remember the previous books which is my bad since I loved them so much! Grant, Carolyn, Owen, Chaco, and Ben reunite to fight another evil. This one seems a bit formulaic but the culture and characters help it rise above it. The writing is taut and the action is palpable and nail biting. We will see more of them.
Based on the spiritual beliefs of the Navahos (the “Dine” in their language), the story follows a battle of good and evil for the soles of the poorest of the tribe. Supernatural forces clash in the forms of Native and White characters intertwined in the Dine experience.
I loved the 3 books prior to this one. I reread all 3 in preparation for this one and I’m glad I did. A lot of things I wondered about are answered in this book. I especially loved the look into Gam’s life. I really hope there will be more of this series! It’s just wonderful!
I so love anything from this author, but I am particularly fond of the Vanished series. Mixing Navajo mythology, the harsh realities of life on the reservation, and well-drawn, likable, ever-growing characters, this series has me hooked. I can't wait for the continuation of the story in the next book.
Story is outstanding. Creation myths of the Navajo deftly woven into fascinating storytelling. All the familiar characters are back along with a new villian with a twist. Plot proceeds at breakneck speed, I missed sleep to finish this book!
Such an incredible read!! This author takes me on an emotional and mental journey that is complicated and twisted and so filled with love and insight and really great depths. I don't know how he keeps up with everything because whatever he starts with he often finishes with and it all ties up. This is an incredibly good writer and I love this series!!!
I have loved every word of this novel. This series is marvelous and I am on to the next just as quick as I can. I wholeheartedly recommend this series to anyone
who loves great storytelling! Take my word for it. You will not be disappointed! I am definitely going to read his other series also!
Book 4 in the series brings the old and new together in a powerful description of life, death, and new understanding of how all is intertwined. Continue to follow The Walker, Joey, Caroline, Owen, and Grant as they wrestle with the darkness that threatens to overtake their lives.
The Wind Thief Vanished series is a stunning blend of rich worldbuilding, unforgettable characters, and a plot that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The writing is beautiful, the twists are smart, and the emotional depth is real. A must-read for any fantasy fan—this is the kind of story that stays with you long after the final page.
B.B. Griffith books always slow my reading down. They touch something which feels so familiar within me and so I linger like I do in the canyon lands of the four corners. I read the first three of this series some time ago and diverted back to mysteries. I was surprised to see book four but entered his world as if I had never left it. The real world has its own dark winds at this time. I definitely will read the next two but allow myself time to center back into myself.
I highly recommend this Vanished Series. It’s full of fascinating lore and the culture of the Navajo people woven through the main story line. The characters are well developed and interesting. Highly entertaining!
I really enjoyed this series, the battle between good and evil, Navajo legends, totems, The Walker, The Keeper, The Guardian, the veil between the worlds. Following this new to me author and looking forward to the next book in this series.
Part 4 of the series is as gripping as the first three but like the others it doesn’t really have an ending. It was good that all four are available but now we have to wait…
I am not a fantasy fiction fan but is stumbled upon these through a FB post. So glad I did. Fantastic reading and the only drawback is that when you finish, it is hard to wait for the next one! ♥️
I picked up the 1st 3 books as bedtime reading. My exhaustion at days end was the only thing to keep me from finishing them sooner. Book 4 was read in the day and totally held me start to end. So looking forward to the next in the series.
I have read the whole series and not one disappointed me. The characters all feel like friends or enemies in the end.I recommend everyone to read them. I'm sorry it had to end...hoping for more in the future.
Got this Vanished series in 3 books. Was VERY glad to see there was a book 4! Just finished all the books and am now looking forward to reading the next series which I have already purchased (3 books)!!
I'm loving this series & this is one of my favorites in it so farl! My heart laughed & cried (yes actual tears too!) I'm looking forward to the next book....but trying not to rush through them! They are too good not to take the time to savor them!
The story doesn’t end here! This is the kind of story that envelops you to a point that you feel like you know the characters! Which is why I’m glad there’s more. I don’t feel like their story had come to the end!
I don't have time for this. I want to get to the next book. The stories, like all good ones. Grab you, they won't let you go until you finish. Then leave you wanting more. Now leave me alone.
