It’s a cute story with potential, but all the spelling and punctuation errors throughout were incredibly distracting. The beginning was choppy, but the middle seemed to have a nice flow. It was a short read, which I don’t think did the story justice. The characters were lovable, but the pacing was rushed making it hard to really invest in them.
This had me sending multiple long voice messages to my friend in the middle of the night. So I can say that it certainly elicited a lot of emotions from me, score one for it I guess. But unfortunately none of those messages were anything super positive. I just didn't fall in love with these characters like I wanted to and their story moved way too fast for me. It felt like their entire relationship was very glossed over and we were told things happened instead of actually seeing them. Which made it nearly impossible to see any type of connection between them.
Speaking of a connection, I found the history between Kat and Jenner confusing. In the very beginning I did not get the hint that they had known each other in the past. Then it becomes obvious that they had met before the events of the book but it's not clear when or what their relationship was. And that confusion lasted until almost the 70% mark. We got little hints of what Kat's past trauma was but it wasn't explained and how Jenner played into that wasn't overly clear either. It made the book annoying to read the longer these unanswered questions went on. Actually, Kat's entire past wasn't focused on a lot but it was hinted at without giving full answers and it added to that confusion.
There was an entire sub plot of a fake relationship that was never fully developed so it just felt weird and out of place? I truly didn't understand why they even decided to fake date and then mention a few times that their relationship was fake but it was never actually discussed? I don't know if I can describe what I mean about the fake relationship but it never actually felt like a fake dating trope and the relationship itself was pretty much real with only the characters off handedly saying it wasn't. But again, no discussions about that or tension from it and even the whole reason behind it just went away with no big scene or closure.
Overall, I think the story had a lot of potential to be really good but for me it never hit that mark. The fast pacing of the story and the lack of information had me more annoyed than anything else, and there wasn't a big enough connection between the characters to make up for that. I know this was a debut book and I do feel a little bitchy for being so harsh on it but it just wasn't a book for me. I think the plot could be interesting so I do see where a lot of people could enjoy the book more than I did.
I’m a big fan of sports-related romance and this hockey-centered story featured a cute couple in Jenner and Kat. Of course, they faced some angst-filled moments and Jenner had his work cut out for him in winning Kat’s heart.
The story had potential to be so much more than it turned out. Underdeveloped and a weak presentation overall. The spelling mistakes were too many to number with sloppy editing and mega annoyances for this reader, resulting in a reduction of one star in the rating.
Hopefully, the next two books in this new series will get better attention to the editing than this debut. Those release dates for books two and three are 7/1/23 and 12/1/23 and untitled at this time.
Quick and easy to read (if you can overlook so many misspelled words and bungled sentences). The ending was rushed with a short epilogue five years forward. I’m still laughing over the three-“carrot” diamond engagement ring!
DNF 23% in. this story had so much potential as it was very hyped up on tiktok but i could not get past the spelling and grammatical errors. really could have benefited from an editor and the format of the ebook was so wonky with chapters starting in the middle of the page and random indents everywhere.
plot felt so shallow and i know i would not be able to relate to these characters at all. way too much telling rather than showing. it seemed like the author sacrificed quality for a release date bc of the tiktok hype.
Nice romantic hockey college story. Misspelled words nearly made me put the book down (DNF) but I powered through because I liked the characters. So get a proof reader and clean it up.
This book was a huge letdown. I saw it advertised on Tik Tok for months and had very high expectations. It’s exactly what I normally would have loved (hockey romance, fake dating), but it was full of loose ends, parts that made no sense, and SO MANY grammatical errors it was like a rough rough draft. The book also was very short and seemed rushed. Also fake dating? They never fake dated lol, so many parts just did not make sense whatsoever.
I was very excited for this book after it came up on my fyp page so many times. I started reading it February 1st, the day it came out and had high hopes. In the end though was very disappointed. I could tell there were good bones but there was no meat to the story just kind of a jumping timeline. I didn’t really understand what was happening Kat and Jenner’s heads.
All of the sudden they were at the first party talking about who Kat was going to seduce that night to help get her over Noah and then they were in Jenner’s room waking up with him in a chair and her in his bed and he said they had made a plan to fake date… I did read the book kind of fast but did I miss something!?
Also I though Kat had a good relationship with her mom and then all of the sudden it seemed like she didn’t and had no parents and had to spend the holidays with Fallon’s family, I was very confused.
Then the dog… WHERE DID THE DOG GO!?! He was Fallon’s dog but they spent a weekend snowed in at Oliver and Jenner’s house but no mention of the dog. I was worried!
The icing on the cake though was the grammar errors. Oh my goodness! At one point in time they went to Disney and I think that word was supposed to be souvenirs but it said they bought expensive seveners. There were extra words in places and missing words in others. Like the book was being rushed to be put out on time. I get one or two here or there but they were everywhere.
Again I think this story could have been a great one and over all I think the writing was good and maybe with the next book it will be better, but there were just to many hard to read parts of this book to make up for the few good spots.
I felt like I was having a stroke reading this book. This book was like reading a rough draft/watt pad. You’re telling me there was a final review and no one caught any of the spelling errors, hockey errors, or paragraph indenting in the middle of a paragraph??? I had a hard time reading this as I am a grammar/spelling n*zi.
I think my 2 biggest qualms in this book was the use of different words for a word that is repeated often. Like c**k and then occasionally throwing in p**is. My question is why? Keep the synchrony. And my 2nd is saying quarter during the hockey game instead of period. I’m sorry but BFFR. You’re seriously writing a sports rom and didn’t do research on the sport which you choose.
Other than that, I liked the story. Jenner and Kats characters were really easy to like. The fake dating is always a good trope for sports roms, especially when it’s with your ex’s rival!
Overall, I liked the plot too much to rate it lower for the HEAPS of errors that were in there. But truly had so much more potential to be a great read
I wanted to love it…. Tiktok had me championing this book, I was so excited from all the sneak peeks. First it being a Novella was a letdown but I was excited to get reading. Once I started the writing style made it not an enjoyable read, it felt like every sentence was choppy, not to mention the spelling errors and typos.
The pacing of the book made it seem like a highlight reel more than a story, it was mostly glimpses of the relationship with no explanations of getting from point A to point B. Additionally, I felt like surroundings got more descriptions than feelings in 80% of the book.
Overall the story would have been great but I feel like I didn’t get to know the characters. This should have been a book over the course of a month for the length of pages (147ish).
Also, the ending of this book in the championship game the author said “at the end of the first quarter” which really turned me off from the book being an avid ice hockey fan. This felt like lazy writing/research and that this book was written with the intention to jump on the hockey romance train.
Would not recommend, it would have been a DNF if I was a quitter.

As did a lot of readers, I found this book on Tiktok and literally had so much excitement over this book release that the second it came out, I had to read it. Unfortunately, Tiktok overhyped this book.
Upon first release, I saw that the book was 147 pages and was disappointed to realize it’s a novella. But I still started this with the intention, based on the excerpts shown on Tiktok, that I was going to love this book… I wasn’t wrong but I wasn’t right either.
What truly bothered me about this book was that it was so rushed timeline wise that it felt like it should’ve been as a regular book, and not a novella. I couldn’t relate to the characters as much as I wanted too, or hype the relationship up as much as I wanted, because it wasn’t built up for me to do so. The scenes that we saw on Tiktok were beautifully written as expected; but it was still very rushed. I wish the author took their time writing this and made it more extended than what she had. To write a novella for 6 month development just wasn’t doing the story any justice.
Not gonna lie, I was pretty disappointed. After looking forward to its release for weeks, only for it to have less than 150 pages? As much as I loved the concept, it moved way too fast. It felt really rushed, no tension to be broken when they finally came together. Not to say the author is bad at all. I just wished she would have taken her time with the story a little more. I think the worst part for me though was the grammar. I don't think anyone bothered to do a final check. So many typos and grammatical errors. It was driving me nuts! So many times, I would have to reread the sentence just to get what was meant. And I don't think it was edited properly for the kindle version. All in all, the story wasn't bad, but it was hard to get past the rest.
I'm so disappointed. I saw this on tiktok a couple of months ago and I have been waiting for the release day so impatiently.
I felt like I Was reading an unfinished book. The book was full of grammatical and spelling errors. So many times I had to go back and reread a sentence, sometimes more to figure out what it was meant to say.
Also, the timeline made zero sense. They were talking about it being 2 months, then another month and then suddenly we were in the same place but it was apparently six months in total, not 3.
Jenner was a cute book bf, but the overall book was very meh.
Disappointed. Wow. The gaps. The unanswered questions. SO MANY things that were just left without explanation or follow up - holes in the plot galore. Someone else mentioned it, but it’s all glossed over. You don’t get to know the characters until a small glimpse at the 70/75% mark. Even then, it’s a glimpse. This just doesn’t encourage the readers to bond to the characters. Lowkey, this felt like an excerpt (or extraction) out of another book of the subcharacters.
Did enjoy the potential and ideas. Also appreciated the author taking time to comment reminders on social media that the book was out.
It was cute but it doesn’t seem like it was edited before it got published. All the errors were distracting and some of the sentences didn’t seem finished. Also what kind of name is Jenner
The story has great potential. It could be filled out so much more. It felt rushed, a handful of errors found throughout. It was jumpy and I felt I was missing pieces of the story. I really wanted to like this more.
Lovely book if you want a short, sweet, drama free, rushed through story.
I was so excited to read this book and I have been waiting in anticipation and yes, the story is good and Jenner is great. But..... Right of the bat Kat found her boyfriend cheating on her and she wasnt even sad about it. She met her childhood friend Jenner (Beware that we get no info on their relationship from the past, we only know that they used to know each other.) and they started this fake relationship thing, which only was fake for about 1 minute. She jumped straight in to bed with him, so there isnt any "hard-to-get" thing. And even the SMUT was rushed trough and not that exciting.
Jenner started of great with his flirty charming personality, but real quick turned into a sad lost puppy, with no real character.
By chapter 6 you think that Kat has a past full of secrets, but it turns out she "just" lost her firefighter dad a few years ago.
"Nice ass." Kat mumbles, poking at my backside. Laughing, I gently tap hers as I make my way up the stairs to my bedrom. "Back at ya." This was going to be a long night. My resolve was about to be tested. - I would have LOVED for there to be more of these kinda moments!
By chapter 10 Jenner is already in love and have apparently moved to live in the same city as her. Even though he couldnt even recognize her when he saw her the first OR the second time. Whats up with that. And then she runs away from him because apparently she is afraid of love, even though she came out of a 4 year relationship.
It a sweet very short story. Just not one i would recommend. And the few spelling errors threw me off.
The story line for this book is one of my favorites to read. I love books about sports romances and the baseline of the story was incredible.
I gave it a 2.5 in my own reading tracker because there were several faults this book had that I couldn't look past.
The pacing of this book felt very off for me and sort of rushed towards the last 50 pages and since this book is so short that really bummed me out. It read to much like a draft than a final copy and it killed the love I had for the story of itself.
When you get to the tragedy of Jenner's brother being injured and Kat going back to California the whole of the book is coming to an end. Knowing that they have to fake-date for six months and the big plot twist came with only 50 pages to go was hard.
I would have loved to see more of the conflict between Jenner and Kat's ex. I would have also like to have a more refined timeline from February to the championship game in April.
Now onto the thing that took the most points away from my rating. The grammar. I have such a hard time enjoying a book with bad grammar since I have dyslexia which makes reading a book that has several clear grammar mistakes hard for me.
If this book had been run through grammerly or another program before being published it would have fixed 75% of the mistakes that it had. I know self-publishing a book can be hard but it felt irresponsible of the author to put out a book that didn't seem checked over at all.
I loved the story line and where the book was going but I wanted it to be longer and have the grammar fixed.
Overall if this book is picked up by a publisher or even refined by the author I will give it another chance.
I could have looked past the poor grammar and spelling, but the plot had so many holes it may as well have been swiss cheese.
From the very start, the story didn't make sense. Jenner not recognizing Kat when he sees her at the game and then revealing how they had this whole history when they run into each other later that night? Then Jenner was saying how he loved her from his childhood, but Kat said they had really only interacted once when her dad died. There were also a lot of small things that just didn't make sense. For instance, when Kat recounted the last picture she took with her dad on her 17th birthday saying how he passed away 6 months after the picture was taken, but then 20 pages later saying she was 18 when he passed.
The fake dating plot didn't need to be in there either. It would have made a lot more sense to have them just be long-lost acquaintances or friends that rekindled their relationship and fell in love. Especially considering the fact that almost immediately after they started "fake dating" they were making out and almost hooking up. And the explanation was to make her ex jealous, but that part was barely touched on. Down to the last chapters where the two hockey teams were facing off for the championship. There could have been much more build-up, but it was just lacking.
I don't mean to rip this book to shreds, but honestly, it felt like a rough first draft. The story and characters were rushed and underdeveloped.

2/5⭐️ - Fake dating - Ice hockey - Childhood friends to stranger to lovers - Ex boyfriends rival
Kat has been with her boyfriend for 4 years but things start to change before she catches him with another girl. Kat decides to go for a fresh start but when she’s at a party, she bumps into Jenner, a guy from her past, and also her ex’s biggest rival. They come up with a plan to get back at her ex, fake date until the championship game. But Jenner’s feelings run deep and he wants to prove they can be more than just a fake couple.
What have I just read?!?!? Let me just say this, the author of this book should be in marketing because she knew how to sell this book! I was one of the many that found this book through tiktok and I had been counting down the days until this was released. The story line for this book sounded so good and I was so excited to jump into this fake dating, ice hockey romance. I was a little shocked when I saw it was only 147 pages but still gave it the benefit of the doubt, but honestly I had so many issues with this book. The main one is the spelling mistakes! I lost track of how many spelling and grammatical mistakes there were and it didn’t help with inconsistent time jumps. All these mistakes just drew away from the story. It was all just so rushed and could have easily been stretched out to 300 pages minimum with more plot and details. There were so many chances throughout this story to have deep plot twists and secrets revealed but the author just seemed to either forget about them or the plot twists just fell flat and were so unnecessary.
Like many other readers, I found this book on TikTok and immediately added it to my TBR. Sports romance has become one of my favorite tropes! Please go into this book knowing it’s only 146 pages and the story feels rushed for that reason. I would have loved for Kat and Jenner’s story to be longer. Hopefully they’ll play a larger side role in the next two books.
Kat and Jenner are college students. Jenner is a hockey player known for his hookups. Kat is a nursing student who just broke up with her boyfriend. They attend rivals schools. After Kat and Jenner run into each other at a party they decide to fake date until the Championship game. Why? Kat’s now cheating ex-boyfriend is also a hockey player and what better way to get back at him than to date the rival school’s hockey captain?! What Kat isn’t prepared for is Jenner doing everything he can to win her heart for real!
As stated and mentioned by the author, there are some annoyances with the eBook layout and errors. If you can look past grammatical errors and extra/lack of words, Jenner and Kat are worth it. I look forward to Oliver and Fallon’s story.
it gets 2.5 stars because i liked it but there were def parts where i just had to put the book down because wtf, not like anything g that dramatic happened but still. yeah idk it was a good about a college hockey player. i will say though their whole ‘fake dating’ thing was t very fake dating to me like they spent most of their time together and like alone, they went to different colleges and they didn’t really go out much together like they went to a few parties but even then like their relationship just simply wasn’t a fake one.
also he was talking about loving her and fantasising about her for the past 5 years but like when she talks about it or whatever she says it like they we’re strangers and he sat with her in the hospital and like that’s it, but he in his pov their parents were besties so surely they would have spent much more time together. idk it’s just confusing
the more i think about it the more i’m like huh? about their relationship before she left california so like idk i’m just not going to think about it because i know there won’t be any answers lol

had so much potential but was just very confusing throughout because nothing was explained or discussed, so it lead to a lot of plot holes throughout that was hard to get past cause you kind of had to know about their past to understand anything in the book.
at the beginning it was like they didn’t know each other but then suddenly they had all this history that wasn’t explained until basically the end. i also thought it was supposed to be a fake relationship but they just kind of agreed they were dating at the start and that was it.
was also so confused when she randomly just decided to take off without him after being more than happy with him for the whole book???
then he had to win her back and chase after her when it was her fault they stopped talking???
i didn’t see a lot of chemistry because a lot of things were just said instead of wrote out to show any kind of connection between them
The story revolves around Kat, traumatised by her past and Jenner who moved to a new city for the love of his life. The two characters decide to fake date to get back at Kat's ex for cheating on her, and while doing so they end up falling in love.
The plot was very basic, not much happening other then Kat's history which James tried to turn into a full blown mystery. There was not much character development in the book with either of the characters. With how the plot could have potentially gone, the book could have been made longer. Much longer. The main trope in this book was fake dating, but the characters just seemed to act as if Kat was trying to move on from her ex boyfriend and Jenner was trying to help her. The normal aspects you would see in a fake dating romance was not present in this book. The romance was cute and the writing was good, the only reason it received 3 stars.
I think this might have been the authors first “book” but it was the length of a novella. Since it was so short, it did not allow for the plot to develop well or the romance to feel real. Even though they said they were in love it had been like one minute of them knowing each other and it felt so fake. Also… a little knowledge of hockey is needed to write a hockey romance and I felt that this book was really lacking that. So yeah bottom line would not recommend this book but you bet I’ll be reading the sequel when it comes out in July
Oh and also the book did not seem edited at all and there were so many plot holes/inconsistencies. Like it was never addressed that they knew eachother the first time he saw her so when he saw her the second time and was like “I would know that girl anywhere” I was like 🤔
