Standard Chinese is a series of primary and secondary school teaching materials specially compiled for the children of Chinese students studying overseas, and also for those foreigners who wish to learn Chinese. The whole set consists of students books, teachers guidance manuals, workbooks, and Chinese readers. The whole set is uniformly standard and systematic, and is logically graded. The illustrations are beautifully laid out.

This has possibly been the best value for money in terms of resources for Chinese so far. The stories are simple enough to follow, but have enough new words and structures to teach a lot, as well as reinforce what one might already knew. Plus it comes with a paper sheet that can be use to block the pinyin, for those who find it distracting or want to try and improve their hanzi recognition skills. I look forward to buying further books in this series!

While the language was simple and easy to understand, I found the actual content boring, but I've never been a fan of the realism short story genre.
