*I received an e-arc of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

Wow! I absolutely loved the first book, Pandemonium, and I am happy to report that Catalyst did not disappoint. It was more dark and dangerous, but just as magical! I found myself not wanting to stop reading, because I had to find out what happened next.

Pandemonium’s chaos is fractured, and Lace and the rightful Ringmaster set out to find the silver card holding the other half of magic. They have been searching for months, and the magic is fading, and all seem to be giving up hope. A mysterious woman appears claiming to know where the card is located, and Lace reluctantly follows her to Dryston, the place responsible for the deaths of her parents. The truth begins to come out, and all is not as it seems.

Lace is lost in betrayals and must play a deadly game of revenge. She is thrust into working with someone she hoped she would never see again. While Lace’s heart feels as though it’s being ripped apart, she must play the game to save Pandemonium and to save their lives.

I was happy to see Lace’s growth in this book. She goes through so much in the first book, but she faces many challenges in this book as well, and continues to shine. I am glad she made choices for herself.

If you like carnivals, magic, romance, and mystery you will enjoy this book. I don’t want to say much more, as I don’t want to spoil anything, but I really hope that people consider reading this amazing series. Be prepared to hold onto your seat, as Willow definitely delivers! I can’t wait to find out what happens next in Lace’s journey.

I was so happy when I got the chance to be an ARC reader for this book. Being the circus fanatic that I am, it was hard not to fall in love with Pandemonium—the first novel of five in the series—and its mysterious Ringmaster. I loved it! So its sequel Catalyst quickly found a place among my highly anticipated reads for this year. And needless to say, Catalyst easily blew Pandemonium out of the water and exceeded every single expectation I had.

What I loved the most about Catalyst (besides the romance ;)) is that we get a more in-depth view of Lace’s world. I loved the chaos lore and how the world surrounding Pandemonium came to be. It was amazing to see the characters grow as they began questioning their life’s choices. They make mistakes. Sometimes painful mistakes. But that only makes the characters more relatable and makes you want to root that much harder for them!

Also, this book is exceedingly darker in tone than Pandemonium. It is bloodier. You’ll constantly be trying to guess what’s going to happen in the coming chapters. Some events will surprise you, some you probably won’t ever see coming even though the littlest details build-up to the climax. And the angst might have shattered my heart a few times, but I’m even more eager now to read that third book!

Honestly, I could not put this book down. To me, every word and every waking minute I spent binging Catalyst was worth all the pain, only because we get to see the characters evolve into who they’re meant to be.

I'd first like to thank Willow who gave me my copy in exchange for an honest review!

I read Pandemonium as part of a blog tour a few months ago and I really enjoyed it! I was excited to learn more about the characters and the adventures they would go on. Like before, the setting was something that was a lot of fun to read about! The magic and whimsical aspect of the show came back in full force which I was very happy to see. In terms of writing, Catalyst is definitely a lot darker than Pandemonium, which I thought gave a perfect opportunity to see the more dramatic sides of the show. It also added another element of urgency and drama to the plot and trials in the competition. Aside from seeing development in Lace, we also saw it in many of the side characters I loved from the first book! There was moments where I was smiling with happiness but others where I felt really sad for the characters and empathized with their situations.

The romance was also well done, the two love interests definitely kept Lace on her toes and we constantly wonder what will happen. To be honest I can't even pick who I like more! 😂One thing I would have liked more of was some breaks from the action in order to get quality time with the characters. I also would have liked to further connect with the past of some characters and to better understand their motivations. Another aspect I enjoyed was that I could never figure out what the plot twists would be! I have to say that the way this book ended has left me hanging! I can't wait to see what will happen next, I feel that the possibilities are endless!

For anyone looking for a dark and whimsical read, Catalyst is the book for you!

I was sent a arc to review by the author!

Okay, WOW! I really loved and enjoyed Pandemonium when I read it a few months back but I love Catalyst even more!!

Catalyst takes on a much more sinister mood and storyline compared to Pandemonium and I seriously was on the edge of my seat for most of this book. Every choice has a consequence and Lace ( our main character) must outwit the enemy but she always seems one step behind. I honestly never knew what was about to go down in this book and more then once had to put it down because I was nervous lol

Catalyst is the the next installment in a series that’s set to have five books and I’m just so excited to see what Willow Anderson has in store for us next. She really stepped up her game even more with Catalyst, between the amount of world building she’s done and the character development, I’m so so excited to see what is next!

If you even remotely enjoy circus vibes, mystery, competition and magic, please do yourself a favor and pick up this series!

Oh also, I’m SO team Killian.

This is book 2 in the series and I really enjoyed it! Once again Lace is in a competition of life and death. This time she has a different partner. Will they be able to work together or will chaos tear them apart? Read it and you will find your answer. 😉

Catalyst is a stunning follow-up to Pandemonium, giving all the mystery and magic that we long for.
Willow Anderson picks right up where she left off.  Lace is continuing with her life after all the havoc and sadness she had fought through previously to finally reach a place of peace and normalcy. Unfortunately, like we all know, all good things must come to an end. The same thing holds true for Lace as she finds herself in a new struggle with a mysterious red-haired woman who commands her own type of “chaos.” This mystery woman invites Lace and Pandemonium to her home to perform. Still, things are not as sweet and innocent as they seem. Lace and the rest of Pandemonium members are once again in a fight for their lives, facing odds that seems impossible to win. Unfortunately for Lace, she has to come to terms with the internal struggle she has with which Ringmaster holds the keys to her heart.
Willow really upped the ante with this sequel with more magic, more mystery, and so much more heartache. I found myself crying more than once while reading this and had to take moments to stop and catch my breath because it was all so overwhelming. It made me feel like I was there with the characters experiencing the terror and heartache. It was sometimes a bit too much for my senses to deal with but in a meaningful way. I love a story that makes you forget you are reading and pulls you in like an animal sinking its claws into you and pulling you close, making you feel everything it feels. This is what a great story is! Catalyst is a thrill ride for the senses that will make you feel love, hate, fear, and peace.

Meet Pandemonium's dark sister!!! I got the privilege to read an arc and I am in complete anticipation for book three. What a wild ride! This book was so enthralling. There were times where I was literally holding my breath and didn't realize it until I had to stop and breathe. The ending is exactly what I was hoping for and I'm so excited to read Lace's next journey.
I compared the first book to the vibes of Caraval/Night Circus with a dash of Alice in Wonderland.
I compare Catalyst with the vibes of Caraval/Hunger Games. 🤐 Seriously, it was a wild ride.

This book was absolutely amazing! The story was riveting, dark, and positively magical! I am in awe of the story Willow has woven so far and I am dying for the next installment. Be prepared to get sucked in, as I couldn't put this book down once I started! This honestly surpassed all of my expectations. I am in such awe of Willow's ability to not only transport the reader into her world, but the challenges she creates are so insane (in the best way)!

This is definitely a series you don't want to miss! :)

Title: Catalyst

This will be a spoiler free review. Thank you so much to Willow for granting me an early copy for this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

So, I spent the majority of this book utterly torn between Killian and Caspian.
And I mean, utterly torn.

This book doesn’t disappoint, and Willow has you completely enthralled and continuously turning the page to find out what happens next. The magic, mystery and mayhem that was introduced in Pandemonium is wilder, darker, more dangerous. Stakes are higher, feelings and emotions are strung taut and the fate of Pandemonium hangs in the balance. This book felt like a mixture of The Hunger Games, Where Dreams Descend, and the Under the Mountain trials in A Court of Thorns and Roses. It has betrayal, love, conflicting feelings, life and death moments and so much tension.

Now, I’m a sucker for the “villain” to get a happy ending, to find love, to love and be love, and I’m all for it. I also love a good guy, so you can imagine just how torn I was between Killian and Caspian. Like, I just wanted Lace to be with both of them. Monogamy be damned.
There were moments I wanted to throttle Killian, and I wanted Lace to choose Caspian, but ultimately, I just can’t decide who I like more. The Good Guy with a heart of Gold who would bend over backwards to give Lace the world – or the morally grey Bad Guy, who’s darkness calls out for Lace and he would burn the world down if it meant protecting her. I mean, how the hell are you supposed to choose!

I also love Lace in this book. A lot has change for her, and she takes it in stride, becoming a part of Pandemonium. The challenges she has to face, and how she chooses to face them – I was kind of reminded of Feyre. Quickly assess the playing field and utilize your own abilities to try and win. Lace was like burning embers, refusing to go out. She burned steadily, a soft glow that refused to go out. So, when I got to the ending, and read how it all played out, I was like, hell yes! Also, a tad torn because – my boys. *sobs*

But, I’m so glad she made the decision best for her.
I’m assuming with the way the book ended, that there’s another one, a book 3? I’m only guessing since Goodreads has no confirmation either way, but I’m totally on board for a third book. The world Willow created was just starting to expand in this book and I’m so curious as to how it’ll impact Lace’s story. Like with Pandemonium, Catalyst comes to life in your mind, and I had absolutely no problem envisioning everything that was happening.

Oh, Kristine was awful. Narratively, she made a great antagonist, but I wanted to punch the bitch basically the whole book. She sucked.

I loved Victoria and the rest of the people Lace surrounds herself with – her chosen family. I love that they have her back no matter what, even when Killian seems lost.

I honestly think this book is better than Pandemonium and I loved that book. This was just wholly so good, and I couldn’t put it down once I picked it up. I’m really hoping there’s a third book, because I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to these characters yet. I have a feeling that things are going to continue to get worse before they get better and I want to see that. Willow outdid herself with this book and I think anyone who read Pandemonium will not be disappointed with this second installment.

This series has easily become a favorite and I will be telling all my friends to read it – and hopefully this review and my review for Pandemonium have convinced you to pick this series up. If you’re a fan of romance, hidden identities, mystery, seductive carnivals, life or death trials, stolen and not so unrequited love, and a power that transcends the people who wield it, then you really should check out this series. You’ll enjoy it!

Oh look, book two of K-mart Caraval, oops I mean Pandemonium. In case you were hoping the author wised up after book one and decided to write an original plot this go round, you hoped wrong. This book is a cheap imitation of book 2 of Stephanie Garber's Caraval series, Legendary.

Again, I refused to read this because of the blatant plagiarism, but from the synopsis alone, let's just break it down:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To win your life, are you willing to risk your heart? Hmm, now why does that tagline sound familiar? Oh wait, because the one for Legendary is "A heart to protect. A debt to repay. A game to win."
With Pandemonium’s chaos fractured, Lace Ashburn and the rightful Ringmaster set out to find the silver card holding the other half of magic. Searching for a magical card (deck) that holds the Fates' and their magic hostage.
After months of searching, all hope is lost as the tent continues to fade and the show begins to die. When a mysterious woman appears claiming to know the location of the card, (mysterious person claiming to have the information the heroine seeks - Jacks?) Lace reluctantly travels to Dryston, the country responsible for her parents’ deaths. (Tella travels to Valenda in order to solve this mystery surrounding her missing mother) But soon, the truth begins to unravel, and things are not as they seem.
Lost in betrayal by those around her, Lace is thrust into a deadly game of revenge. (Tella ends up competing in Caraval in order to win the information she needs to pay her debt to Jacks) Working with the man she hoped to never see again, (Tella starts out wishing Dante would leave her alone)they must navigate the twisted mind of Dryston’s wicked princess while Lace struggles to keep her heart from completely splitting in two. (Love triangle? Jacks/Tella/Dante) Together, they fight through the competition to not only save Pandemonium, but also their lives. (This time, the competition is real? Now where have I heard that before? "As fantastical as Caraval might feel, the next five nights are very real.")
Three mysterious cards. Two devastating betrayals. One dangerous game. Deck of Destiny (cards), Legend and Jacks' true identities (betrayals), dangerous game (Caraval).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seriously, folks. How do you not see that this is blatant plagiarism?

“Our parting will be one that ballads rejoice upon. For the poison will not be my undoing, but heartbreak. They will write of your beauty and my corruption and how our endless night found one another and brought peace to our weary souls.”

I called Catalyst's predecessor Pandemonium "Gorgeous. Immaculate. Stunning." and let's just say that I was not disappointed.

Catalyst is on a different level of its own. I would say it's right up there in my most favourite and highly recommended books, but that would not do it enough justice. The intrigue and mystery of the games of Pandemonium in the first book come back ten-fold in this sequel, as well as much more. I cannot even find the words to explain anything that I've witnessed in this book, but I'm glad to have been a very much involved spectator.

Lace finds a backbone in this narrative, and even through her indecisiveness, I feel only empathy at the epiphanies she faces in this book. Where she finds herself at the end of this book makes me rather pleased, as good a cliffhanger as it was; I'm not always one for unexpected cliffhangers — I've gotten far too used to ones where I knew it wouldn't be the end — but Willow Anderson has truly outdone herself. With this feat, I doubt very few writers out there can outdo her in this respect. Her writing style brought all these characters to life, and every action and feeling was vivid and lifelike.

Don't get me started on Caspian, Killian, Victoria, Lucille, Alice, and everyone else in this universe. We're going to be here all day.

In terms of trigger warnings, there are mentions of d**th (e, a), bl**d (o, o), kn*v*s (i, e), h**ghts (e, i), dr*wn*ng (o, i), and f*r* (i, e); there are about 9 or so uses of "*ss" (a) and at least one "b*tch" (i) if I remember correctly; as per usual, no NSFW and that makes me very happy!

I want to say more, but the spoilers would not be worth it. Overall, I really love Catalyst, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys magical carnivals and epiphanies about everything and nothing all at once. Really hoping there's a third book because golly gee! I will not be left on a cliffhanger like that, no ma'am, I have too much love for this universe just to stop there.

When Chaos is fractured, what will happen to Pandemonium?

Lace and Killian help Pandemonium achieve its former glory while searching for Caspian to find the silver magic card. After receiving a mysterious message stating that Caspian is Dryston so the show travels there despite Lace's history there. After finding Caspian held captive by Kristine, who is now the Queen of Dryston, Lace is forced to play another round of Pandemonium's deadly game but with Caspian as her partner and Killian as an unlikely adversary. Will Lace bear Kristine at her own game or die at the hands of her enemy?

This was an amazing continuation of Pandemonium and had me sitting on the edge of my seat. It was a book that I didn't want to put down and rushed through my daily housework to get back to. I was excited to see that there are 3 more books forthcoming to help me further my reading into the Chaos and see what happens between Lace and Caspian. Willow Anderson weaves a wonderful story that leaves you wanting more. I can't wait to read what else she works up.

3.5 out of 5 stars

The rightful Ringmaster is back to lead Pandemonium and its performers, Lace now also performing. Her sister, Victoria, and previous handmaiden, Lucille, support from the crowd. Behind the scenes, the group are still searching for the missing half of the silver card imbued with chaos from their last run in with the previous Ringmaster.

I came across the first book, Pandemonium, in my kindle recommendations and wanted to check it out because it sounded similar to Caraval - magic circus, enticing ringmaster, dangerous game - which I love. And the first book didn’t disappoint! But Catalyst just wasn’t at the same level.

The story line was a bit all over the place, characters acted out of character, some things weren’t as developed as they should’ve been, and there were pieces of information/scenes/characters that felt like they came out of nowhere. I’m a bit disappointed because I really liked the first book but this one fell a bit flat. I’m not sure if I’ll continue the series (en of the book said there’ll be three more).

Although Catalyst was a bit jarring, I still recommend the first book, Pandemonium, if you love Caraval. It’s a nice quick read to get your magical circus fix in.

This second novel in the Pandemonium series is a good bit darker and I enjoyed it. It had more of what I wanted in the first novel, namely more dialogue and interactions between Lace and her love interests, but it also was a bit more predictable than the first novel. Lace makes a few major choices at the end and while I understand them, I don't necessarily agree that those choices make sense for her. I thought this would be a trilogy but it looks like there will be at least two more full-length novels in this series so I am excited to see where it goes moving forward. I think how the series ultimately ends will impact my view on Lace's choices in Catalyst.

Overall, an enjoyable read with romance and magic that is sure to delight!

You guys. Seriously... This book was hands down, amazing. Like heartbeat racing, breath caught in your throat, can't turn the next page fast enough, amazing. Without spoilers, I'll say this. The character growth in Catalyst... perfect! That love triangle we all love and then hate and then love because we can't decide, it's THERE. And it's so satisfyingly good. This was the book I was eager to read and then sad when I felt the final pages approaching. I needed to know what happens next and now I'm so excited for the next book already. There's such a dark, magical theme to these books, I cannot get enough. Write faster, Anderson!

This book, or rather this series, is incredible. The characters, the glitz and glamour, the danger lurking at every turn...absolutely marvelous. I wish I had a following of millions so I could shout from the rooftop how amazing this book is. I’m really hoping a book three is on the way, as there is definitely enough loose ends to tie up for at least one more book. Please go read this page turner as soon as possible.

After finishing the first book in the series, Pandemonium, I waited impatiently for the arrival of October 1, so that I could get my hands on Catalyst. I was hoping that it would deliver the same feelings that came with the first, and deliver it did. The emotions, the twists, the mind games all came alive in Catalyst and I could not be more pleased.
Willow Anderson put out an amazing book, one that I will never recover from if I have anything to say about it. To say the characters are living rent free in my mind would be an understatement. Catalyst was exactly what I wanted and more. It had the perfect blend of intrigue, romance, and death defying stunts. There was no slow moments, everything coming together towards the incredible finale. I was captivated from page 1 to page 455. I honestly can say, I didn't even really put the book down.
If you haven't read Catalyst you 100% should, because its a book that you don't want to live without.
