This is an excellent book about polar bears, but it’s probably not for sensitive kids as the very first page has a graphic eating scene and there are several throughout the book. My kids are not at all sensitive though and they really enjoyed it.

Polar Bears
Sandra Markle
Polar Bears are really interesting and cool animals. Polar Bears live mostly in cold temperatures. They can smell as far as 20 miles. They can swim as far as 60 miles. Polar Bears have white fur which helps them for a couple of reasons. The first reason is there fur helps them blend in more so it's harder for pray to see them. The second reason is there fur keeps them warm. Even though there fat keeps them warm there fur also keeps them warm to just not as much.Polar Bears pray is uaslky small whales and other small animals.

In this book I think there are a lot of themes but I'm going to list two themes. The first theme is fear. It's fear because it talks about the Polar Bear and what it has to watch out for when hunting for pray. An animal it has to watch out for while it's hunting is the Walruss. The second theme is freedom. It's freedom because the Polar Bears have to fight for there food unless they scare a younger Bear away and take there food. An animal the Polar Bears fight so they can eat is small whales. In this book there are more themes but I thought these were the most important ones.

Have you ever read all about polar bears? Well, they're actually pretty interesting! Polar bears can swim 60 miles without stopping and even survive in that freezing water while doing it. Polar bears mainly prey on fish and small whales, as well as their friends that prey on the same, seagulls. When polar bears mate, they first fight each other leaving slashes and wounds. But then, the female leads the male polar bear on a run. After they mate, the female holds around 2 cubs for about 2 months. When they're born, they come out weight about the size of a soda can! All in all, polar bears are pretty cool animals and definitely my favorite bear!

The author, Sandra Markle, had a purpose to right this book. She wrote it to inform her readers all about polar bears! She told how they mate. She informed people about their prey and predators and how they fit in on the food chain! She explains even how cool their coat is! Sandra Markle authored this book for the main purpose to inform!
