OK, I'll admit it, Lori Handeland is a guilty pleasure for me. I read a Nightcreature short in a collection one time and immediately went out and bought the entire series, I think there were seven at the time. I then started reading the Phoenix Chronicles when they started coming out. However, I actually wish I handn't read her lastest in that series, "Chaos Bites". Don't get me wrong, it was a fun read, everything you'd expect in this Romantic/Fantasy genre. But let's say reading this one was like getting just to the point where a character was in the heat of passion, nearly to the point of climax and she stops. Yeah, that pretty much explains what I felt like at the end of the story. There is so much more to tell here and Lori has gone back to writing books in some of her other series while leaving us hang in The Phoenix Chronicles with no word on when or if she'll pen another. I hit her up on facebook and asked her why she would do this to me and she responded, "It seemed like a good idea at the time". I'm not saying don't read it, it's actually the best of the series so far. I'm just warning you that you'll be left wanting more. I just hope there is more...eventually.

Oh no no no no NO! Don't kill off a series after book 4 and just leave us hanging!!!!!! This is book 4 of the Phoenix Chronicles, published in 2010, and written as if there would be at least 2 more books to come. Well, it's over 3 years later and still no book 5! Lizzy needs to start talking to Lori again so we can get the rest of the story if that's the problem. If it's a publishing issue then Lori needs to self-publish the rest so that we can find out what happens. I loved this series from the get-go and REALLY want more, maybe even an off-shoot series about Summer. Good Urban Fantasy with a Paranormal Romance love triangle thrown in for good measure and some heat too. I'd say it's still worth reading this series even though it doesn't have an ending currently. The story thus far is well written enough that you won't feel like you've wasted your time.

Sawyer is dead and haunting her dreams, Liz is feeling guilty and despondent (not to mention sleep-deprived), and then a baby appears on her doorstep. Like, literally. To cap it off, Ruthie shows up to tell her to take the baby to Jimmy. Yeah, Liz really wants to go hang out with her ex-boyfriend...
So off she goes with baby and Luther, only to wind up chasing down a skinwalker, fighting with a Haitian sorceror who's keeping an eye on a very important spellbook, and getting herself tied up in more knots that you'd find on an old schooner (not that I know the answer, it just sounded good!)... And then the baby is kidnapped, and Jimmy goes missing. What else can go wrong? Better not ask!
Character: Liz is not my typical heroine. She's sassy, but only to people (& I use the term liberally) she doesn't like. She uses her powers when she thinks she has to, which is turning out to be more often than her friends think she should. And she gets into trouble more easily than she should, because she's not quite trained enough to know all the ins and outs of being leader of the forces of good. I'm not even quite sure that I really like her, but she kinda grows on you...
Pace & Plot: Chaos Bites feels like one of those amusement park rides that goes up and down, then up again, then down again... It starts down, as Liz is mourning Sawyer, then the pace picks up when she can't figure out what to do with a baby, then down again when she has to interact with Jimmy and Summer. And etc. But throughout the book, the pace is constant--constant chaos, constant dreaming, constant trying-to-figure-out-how-to-beat-the-bad-guys. Without picking up more demons or getting more people killed, of course..

I was getting really into this but this installment irked me. I really don't like books that feel exclusively like interim novels until another installment comes along. Unlike the previous three in which there was some sense in each that something, however small, was resolved, nothing is resolved here and Jimmy is really beginning to annoy me. He just doesn't seem to be worth the emotional drama/trauma and I wish Liz would find a way to cut that umbilical cord. This is the kind of novel I expect to be second to last in a series as it builds up a lot of expectations fora resolution and I doubt that will be the case in number 5.

Lots of running around. Took a while to recap previous books, ends with, literally, "let's recap" and gives a whole laundry list of the stuff you need to remember for the next book. They are good reads, just need to be accompanied by Cliff's Notes, I guess.

Really got into this world, but I've heard the author isn't continuing...or rather the publisher isn't publishing any more. I'm SO bummed out.
Regardless, I recommend this series. The characters are worth getting to know and the world is pretty cool.

Erster Satz:
Die Anführerin der übernatürlichen Mächte des Guten zu sein ist längst nicht so cool, wie es klingen mag.
Cover:
Das Cover sieht einfach toll aus. Wie immer bei dieser Reihe ist das Gesicht von Liz zu sehen und diesmal strahlt es in einem tollen gelb.
Meinung:
Alle drei Bände dieser Reihe konnten mich hundertprozentig überzeugen und deshalb musste ich natürlich auch Fluch lesen. Fluch ist ein gelungener Folgeband, der seinen Vorgängern an Spannung, Erotik und Humor in nichts nachsteht. Der Schreibstil von Lori Handeland ist locker, flüssig und hat genau die richtige Portion Humor.
Nachdem in Blut Sawyer gestorben ist, war ich gespannt wie es nun weiter geht. Liz trauert um Sawyer und macht sich Vorwürfe wegen seinem Tod, denn schließlich ist sie dafür verantwortlich gewesen. Trotzdem müssen die Leser in diesem Band nicht auf Sawyer verzichten, denn Liz hat genügend Träume in denen sie ihm begegnet und wer die beiden kennt weiß dass es da heiß hergeht.
Liz ist eine tolle Hauptprotagonistin. Sie hat alles was man dafür bracht. Elizabeth ist selbstbewusst, taff, verdreht allen Männern den Kopf und hat auch noch eine große Portion Sarkasmus zu bieten. Das sie noch um Sawyer trauert konnte ich gut nachvollziehen. Am Anfang habe ich auch noch verstanden warum sie Sawyer unbedingt wiedererwecken will, aber zum Ende hin habe ich gehofft dass sie es sein lässt, denn eigentlich habe ich gehofft dass sie über ihn hinwegkommt und ihre Liebe zu Jimmy eine Chance hat. Außerdem hatte ich das Gefühl dass sich Liz in diesem Band irgendwie nicht weiterentwickelt hat, was ich nicht weiter schlimm fand da ich die alte Liz eigentlich mag.
Sawyer hat in Blut sehr viel Platz in der Geschichte eingenommen und ich konnte mir ehrlich gesagt nicht vorstellen wie es nun ohne ihn weitergehen soll, aber wie schon oben erwähnt, ist er ja nicht ganz verschwunden.
Jimmy ist natürlich immer noch gutaussehend, erfolgreich und passt gut zu Liz, aber trotzdem gibt es für die beiden irgendwie nicht den richtigen Zeitpunkt. Etwas das sich schön fand war das man in dem Buch viel über Jimmys und Liz gemeinsame Vergangenheit erfährt. Ich habe erst in diesem Buch mitbekommen wie groß die Gefühle von Jimmy für Liz damals waren. Jimmy konnte in diesem Band also viele Sympathiepunkte bei mir sammeln.
Luther ist mittlerweile ein wichtiger Bestandteil in Liz Leben geworden und die beiden kämpfen nun Seite an Seite. Ansonsten kann ich eigentlich gar nicht so viel über ihn sagen. Summer dagegen ist mir spätestens in Fluch unsympathisch geworden. Sie ist eine richtige Zicke, würde allerdings alles für Jimmy machen. Eine wichtige Rolle in diesem Buch spielt außerdem Faith, das Baby das Liz auf ihrer Türschwelle findet. Dieses kleine niedliche Baby ist allerdings alles normal, was als Tochter von Sawyer sicherlich vorauszusehen war.
Was es mit dem Baby genau auf sich hatte werden die Leser aber wohl nie erfahren, auch nicht was aus Sawyer wird nachdem er wiedererweckt wurde, da die Reihe leider eingestellt wurde. Jimmy ist zum Ende hin verschwunden und niemand weiß wohin und warum. Die Apokalypse ist naher als noch nie zuvor und wie es ausgeht ist noch völlig offen. Ich würde gerne wissen wie es weitergeht aber leider gibt es keinen Folgeband. Abschließend kann ich nur sagen das mir die Phoenix Chroniken wirklich gefallen haben und ich es schade finde nun nichts mehr von Elizabeth Phoenix und ihrer Föderation zu lesen.

Es gibt nichts an dem Buch auszusetzen und ich finde es schade dass die Reihe eingestellt wurde. Alle die die ersten drei Bände der Phoenix Chroniken gelesen haben sollten sich Fluch natürlich nicht entgehen lassen. Ich vergebe 5 von 5 Sterne.

Als erstes muss ich leider los werden, ich bin froh das ich das Buch durch habe, nicht weil es so toll war, ich wollte die B��nde abschlie��en, aber so wie das Ende geschrieben ist kommt da noch was...
Mir f��llt die Rezi echt schwer da ich ziemlich entt��uscht bin von dem ganzen, Teil 1 und 2 hab ich verschlungen, Teil 3 ging so hab es dann aber auch geschafft da ich unbedingt Teil 4 lesen wollte da der Klappentext f��r mich so interessant war...ja das hat get��uscht.
In Band 3 hat Liz ihren Geliebten Sawyer ja get��tet und nun plagt sie das und sie kommt damit nicht klar, zum ��berfluss findet sie dann auf ihren Treppen ein Baby und als Sie es sich ansieht wei�� sie das es die Tochter von Sawyer sein muss. Das schlimme Gott und die Welt will dem Baby an die Kehle, aber da gibt es ja Jimmy der dann einfach mal zum Babysitter abgestempelt wird XD
Das Buch war f��r mich eine Qu��lerei :( Was mich in den letzten beiden Teilen tierisch nervte war das Liz mit der ganzen Welt schlafen musste, um deren Kr��fte zu bekommen um de Welt zu retten. O.o
Und in der ganzen Sache beschloss sie dann noch Sawyer von den Toten zu erwecken, dann wieder ein bisschen Love mit Jimmy und das Chaos war wieder perfekt.
Das einzige tolle in dem Buch war Faith das Baby von Sawyer die wurde so goldig beschrieben, immerhin etwas ;)
Auch wenn ein 5ter Teil raus kommen sollte, w��rde ich es mir holen, wer nun denkt warum nur? Ganz klar, das Ende lie�� alles offen , den Faith wurde entf��hrt und genau das will ich nun weiter lesen !

In Band 3 hat Liz ihren Geliebten Sawyer ja getötet und nun plagt sie das und sie kommt damit nicht klar, zum Überfluss findet sie dann auf ihren Treppen ein Baby und als Sie es sich ansieht weiß sie das es die Tochter von Sawyer sein muss. Das schlimme Gott und die Welt will dem Baby an die Kehle, aber da gibt es ja Jimmy der dann einfach mal zum Babysitter abgestempelt wird XD

December 16, 2020Wie die Bewertung unschwer erkennen lässt, mochte ich auch den vierten Band der Reihe nicht sonderlich. Warum ich ihn gelesen habe? Nun, er stand in meinem Regal... ansonsten steht für mich fest, dass ich diese Reihe nicht weiter verfolgen werde. Ich kann mit der Hauptprotagonistin nichts anfangen. Ihr Humor wirkt auf mich erzwungen, ihre ganze Denkweise finde ich manchmal sehr merkwürdig, sie verkauft sich und ihren Körper um die Welt zu retten, schläft mit zwei Kerlen gleichzeitig . Insgesamt halte ich sie für ziemlich überheblich, da sie ja ach so mächtig ist - aber trotzdem nichts mit ihrer Macht anzufangen weiß?
Das nächste Problem in diesem Band war die Handlung. Einen Spannungsbogen konnte ich nicht erkennen und auch ein richtiges 'Showdown' gab es am Ende nicht. Das Buch ist ein einziger Füller und prinzipiell hätte es sogar gereicht den Epilog zu lesen, der das gesamte Buch recht gut zusammenfasst.
Wie gesagt, für mich ist die Reihe damit abgehakt.
Das nächste Problem in diesem Band war die Handlung. Einen Spannungsbogen konnte ich nicht erkennen und auch ein richtiges 'Showdown' gab es am Ende nicht. This for Liz always seem to go to hell in a hand basket pretty fast and this time around it is no different. She is still hurting over what she had to do to Sawyer at the end of the last book, she is also on the outs with Jimmy for something she had to do. Time and time again she gets backed into a corner and has to hurt those she loves for the greater good, that is what being a good leader is about and while she doesn't think of herself as a good leader that is what she is.
Sawyer finds ways to come back to visit with Liz and even leaves a gift for her that affects her more than she realizes at first and more than she wants it to. Her new sidekick Luther tries to help her out, but he is still a kid himself, but with the help of Ruthie, Liz finds herself on a path to help them all. During this journey she learns surprising facts along the way from strangers, potential new allies, and most importantly from those she loves and love her, which at times makes her rethink her past. But again she finds herself in that corner and forced to make hard decisions that will alter the future and maybe the balance of power, we just have to see what happens with all the chaos that is Liz's life.

This has become one of my read immediately series. Unfortunately, I'm starting to get concerned about it.
As one of the characters said, the good guys can never really win. The best they can hope for is to pretty much maintain the status quo. The only way they can really win is if Armageddon is triggered and then win that battle, but if Armageddon is triggered then they've already lost. But it's hard to get excited about heroes fighting to maintain the status quo.
This book suffered from not having a real antagonist. They basically fought monsters of week, even if one of them was a little stronger than the others.
I like Sawyer a lot, in fact, he's the primary reason it's a must read series for me. So I'm really glad he's back and I think he could make a very interesting antagonist. But. Didn't we just do the whole Liz's lover becomes evil bit with Jimmy?
And the whole Jimmy thing continues to elude me.

Sadly this book just wasn't as good as the others ones have been. It may have been lack of Sawyer, or Jimmy issues that never seem to go anywhere and just repeat the same pattern over and over again. It may have been that I noticed just how OBSESSED Liz seems to be with her own breasts. I liked the book okay, but...it just seemed to be too focused on sex and Jimmy and Sawyer's death and wasn't up to par with the other books. If the fifth book ever gets published I think I would read it, to give it a chance, but if it went down the same route, I wouldn't continue the series. I'm kind of hesitant at this point anyhow. This book was not bad, but it just wasn't as well written as the others had been.

Awesome, AWESOME book! Lori never disappoints with her Phoenix Chronicles books and this one was just as good as the others. :-) I love the stuff that goes on between her and Summer...then there is her on/off relationship with Jimmy...same as always, LOL! Glad to see a new character introduced as well...hopefully she can bring him over to join the army of the Light.
Interesting at the end what happened with Sawyer...AND a little scary!! Hopefully they can get Faith back safe and sound in the next book...looking forward to it!

Good addition to the series. Lots of action and interesting stuff going on in this book. Liz was kick-ass as usual. Always making hard decisions even though she knows that she might be hated for it....but doing it anyway because it must be done to save the world. I hate some of the decisions she makes but I also feel sorry for her because there is simply no other choice. It ends with a major cliffhanger and many things are left unsolved, therefore, I'll be eagerly awaiting Book 5.

What can ya say about the fourth book in a series, I mean Liz has grown alot since the first book and after her past she can only go up. With the new book she is forced to grow up a little more and to show that she had feelings. I think that's really hard for her and she's handling it well for now.
Looking forward to continue reading about Liz and the messes she gets in and out of. I hope that she didn't make a mistake doing what she did.

Haven't read the others in this series. Blurb looks good.
Good read. Lots of backstory and world building.
Totally new world to me, like nothing I've ever read. This was an interesting read, and quick. I'd like to read the ones before this book. Protagonist has a lot of issues with other characters, and she's supposed to be some savior. Hmm....

I really like the series so of course I will be biased BUT not that much really happened here. Seemed like a lot of set up for the next book, and I really, really want Phoenix to get over her stupid Jimmy obsession!!!!

Entertaining evil vs. good battle series that is getter better and better. Can't wait for the next one. Fans of Laurell Hamilton, Kim Harrison, or Carrie Vaughn might enjoy this series.
