A rekindled romance. A second chance at love. The Daddy she needs. When family tragedy brings Charlie back home to the ranch, she ends up face to face with the man she walked out on years before.
Sam is just as hot and bossy as ever, but Charlie knows she made the right choice all those years ago and she's determined to stay away. But when her father’s will throws the two of them together, it quickly becomes clear that their explosive chemistry can't be ignored.
Now he’s in charge whether she likes it or not, and it’s bringing back all those memories of what they had before. But if things are going to work it has to be different this time. She knows what she needs. She needs him to be her Daddy. The only question is… can he handle her?
USA Today Bestselling Author Kessily Lewel, and her darker side Sadie Marks, are two halves of the same author. All of her work falls under the category of power-exchange romance. Kessily’s books tend more towards sexy romance with a side of domestic discipline, while Sadie has been sticking to sci-fi, with her race of Dominant aliens who are looking for a few good humans to call their own.
She has been in love with fantasy, sci-fi and horror since she was a child. She grew up reading Stephen King, Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and others, so it was only natural that one day she’d write her own worlds—though hers do seem to have a lot more sex and BDSM in them.
New to me author. 3rd person which I tend to avoid in contemporary but like in historical. Wavering on rating --- There are potential triggers for those who read romance and do not enjoy power dynamics.
Recommendation: This book is for a reader who likes 3rd person and enjoys power dynamic storylines.
This is the first book that i have read by the author it was an enjoyable read but i was conflicted i liked it but didnt love it. There was a heap of emphasis on Charlie emotions but not much on Sam even though we know how he feels about Charlie. Also i think the hot scenes could be a bit more descriptive (so we the readers can feel the fantasy) yet just as we were getting somewhere .... it was finished i felt it really really needed an epilogue and that letter ooo she annoyed me so much by not reading it.
(Edit) the safe word thin annoyed me and the cavalier attitude towards it and aftercare.
THIS BOON HAD TOO MUCH SCREAMING IN IT BDSM REP Felt wrong at times ~ if he was a daddy/ brat tamer why was he shouting at her all the time ~ also i felt like he punished her when he was mad which is so wrong
lack of actual aftercare in this book i mean ik aftercare is different to everyone but i felt like it had zero
also is it ever a good idea to have no safeword during a punishment isnt that dangerous??
i just felt like the bdsm rep was incorrect
the amount of lack of communication was horrible the fact that if he didn’t want her bratting during work maybe he should have talked to her a out
Okay 3/5 stars for me. And here's why. The Daddy Dom aspect of this books does not come into play until the last view chapters other wise its just a BDSM story. Charlie is the main reason I dislike this book. I understand she's mourning the loss of her father, trust issues cause of her mom, and mental health. I understand she's a brat but good lord she's wayyy past brat and just horrible person. She annoyed me through the entire book. The book introduces a letter her father wrote for her yet she never reads it (I know there's a second book). The reaches out to her therapist yet never calls her back about her stressful situation. It just it introduces something and does continue down it it just stops short. Sam. Sam is what saves this book and why it gets 3/5 stars. Love him a majority of the time. He had some parts that I wasn't sure about because of the safe words. But other than that it's an okay character.

Kinda hate her dad for forcing her to do things she didn't like but also the guy for never actually listening to her till he'd dealt out a punishment. If he insisted on talking or listened when she tried to, I might have given this 5 stars, but it lacks actual communication, so I can't
Listen, it was free on Stuff Your Kindle Day. But I'm still disappointed.
First of all, she's not a brat. She's a bitch - to Sam and to other people! There's a difference between being a brat and being straight up impolite.
There wasn't as much smut as it should have (false advertisement?). The sexual tension was there on occasions, and it seemed that she reached out for Sam whenever she was bored. Because she spends most of the fucking time being a ultimate bitch. Such as when Sam exposed his limits to her saying he wouldn't feel comfortable if he were to discipline someone outside of a relationship and the next thing this fucking psycho thought was that she was determined on getting her way. Fuck. Her.
On top of that I started hated Sam because he didn't do anything to stop her maniac attack. They all need therapy.
Considering this is a series of books, I get why it's out of pace, but it still doesn't excuse the poor execution. Like, why introduce an issue if you're not going to at least elaborate it? For instance, we know she got a letter from her deceased father. It's been mentioned multiple times in the story, yet she doesn't read it.
In all honesty, this book lacks planning all in all. The characters lack personality, there's nothing in them that can make you see the deepness of their relationship. The story feels like walking without getting out of place: always coming back to the same topics and problems. This issue may be due to the fact that there's not enough dialogue between characters and more of the 3rd person narrative, which gets exhausting if not brilliantly executed.
I won't judge that the relationship between Sam and Charlie revolves around spanking, as if that's all the kinky DD/LG relationships have. I don't see what's in for her sexually and I don't see what is in for him emotionally. I don't think they're a match.

The story is the first in a series and will revolve around two main characters, Charlotte “Charlie” McGee and Sam Mason. Both have lived on the ranch, and after the death of Sam’s father, Jimmy McGee kept him on and treated him like a son. The story begins at the graveside of Jimmy—and then at the attorney’s office to leave what was in Jimmy’s will.
The past and the present will collide. There is chemistry between Charlie and Sam—they grew up together, were partners in trouble, and eventually became lovers. But Jimmy was determined that Sam would get an education, nothing to do with the ranch, and kept her away at school—now, even in his death, he is pulling strings to control her life. She, and even Sam, are caught between a legal rock and hard place to retain the ranch.
“Well, Ms. McGee, your father had some very definite ideas about your future, but he was aware that certain circumstances could occur that might make it awkward for Mr. Mason to have full control of the ranch so in the circumstance that you marry—if you should marry then that would supersede the education clause, and you would then become an equal partner in the management—after a year.”
The clauses in the will have Charlie upset—she doesn’t want to continue school and get a doctorate degree, and then the deal on marriage would also put the family ranch in jeopardy. She is stuck with Sam—or maybe he is stuck with her. There is so much animosity right now, and he is as shocked as she is.
The story will have secrets, angst, and attitude and will all play their role in this tale. Charlie is lost, confused, and then when a terrible storm hits, she is frightened and runs to the only safe place she has—Sam’s house and his arms. She wants comfort while maintaining control, always trying to top from the bottom. But for how long will Sam allow her demands?
“She was able to set neat little limits around their interactions. Act up when she wanted discipline, go to his house when she wanted sex—it was easy and uncomplicated. There were definitely benefits to a loose arrangement like that.”
“Was it really wrong to want to be both of those things? She felt like she had two people inside of her: the innocent little girl who needed to be cuddled and maybe sometimes punished and the shamelessly sexual wanton who writhed and begged for Daddy. Maybe if Sam was willing to deal with both, she’d be able to let him in finally and give him the commitment he wanted.”
“I’m not trying to be your father, Charlie, but you clearly need a Daddy to keep you in line and blister your ass for breaking the rules, and I can sure handle that job.”
“She had a little girl side to match the very sexy, wanton woman side, and he loved both. But he just wasn’t sure if she’d ever be able to really let go and let him take care of her.”
The story will bring two people who became lovers while they were teenagers back together and now facing a new future—co-owners of the McGee ranch—provided they abided by all the stipulations laid out in the will. Sam has been the foreman and ran the ranch for Jimmy for years, especially as cancer took his life. Charlie has unwillingly been away at school, not at the ranch where she wants to be. Now, she is dealing with another loss and conditions that have her reeling—plus, there is Sam. She pushes their former relationship, one she broke several years ago, and it is like she wants to control what happens. Sam isn’t pleased with her behavior and wants more. But when she endangers her life, trying to act out, that will get her the one thing she has begged him for—a real punishment.
The story has many scenes of dominance and submission in the bedroom, explicit sex scenes that include power exchange, and one intense punishment spanking. But this story isn’t the end of Sam and Charlie; there is more with Taming His Brat.
Gut-wrenching emotion with a side dish of panty-dripping sex.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I had high hopes for this book, having read other works by the author, including her blog, and having also seen snippets of this book in development. I am a fan of the D/S genre, but I usually avoid Daddy Dom books; however, I was eager to see Ms Lewel’s take on the genre, especially given the luscious cover. Ms Lewel has a way of making her readers feel as if they are a part of the world that she is painting with her words, and so I was drawn into that world from the start. The story begins with a funeral, and from there, we experience an emotional rollercoaster as Charlie deals with the loss of a beloved parent, an uncertain future, and being shoved back into close quarters with Sam; her childhood friend and former boyfriend.
While Claiming his Brat features a lot of hot and steamy sex, and stiff punishment, there is a lot more to story than just a quick, dirty romp in the barn. This is a romance, through and through. Charlie and Sam must navigate their shared loss, their shared baggage, and their individual baggage, as they learn to work together on the ranch that that they both love. This not the burgeoning romance of two teenagers, exploring their sexual boundaries, but the complicated mature relationship of two adults that are deeply in love, but needing to find a suitable way to bridge the distance that they find between them.
Sam and Charlie are not two-dimensional cardboard cut-outs; they have character, history, baggage, and this shapes their relationship with one another. Sam is not the stereotypical cowboy of past romance books; he is not the strong, silent type, grunting his way through the book, and looking for damsels to rescue. We see that he is human; he is far from perfect and makes mistakes, but he is not cruel, cock-sure, or emotionally stunted.
Charlie is the brat, and a very likeable one. Like Sam, she is not written as a caricature, but as a complex human; prone to mistakes, as she deals with trauma that has shaped her from a young age. Charlie is careless with Sam’s feelings, but she is not malicious and spiteful. She is lost, and working hard to find her way, when she hasn’t had much control over her life.
While the sex scenes are panty-dripping hot, I think it’s the emotional scenes that Ms Lewel excels at writing. Ms Lewel shows that she has a deep understanding of anxiety, mental health in general, therapy, and trauma. As someone that has experienced trauma, depression, and anxiety I found these scenes to be authentically written; many a time I found myself in Charlie’s shoes, experiencing her emotions as my own. It was cathartic.
Ms Lewel takes great pains to show how a healthy Daddy Dom/Little Girl relationship should work. It is not about hurting the other person, cruelly humiliating them, or losing yourself in them. It is about respect, and boundaries, and asking for what you need the most, from the person that you trust to give it to you. And speaking up when they fail to do so. Sometimes when reading a D/S story, I cannot picture the relationship lasting, as there is no mutual trust and respect, and the dominant character is often ill-equipped to deal with the mental health of their sub. Charlie’s trauma could be a tool to hurt her in the wrong hands, but in the right hands, Sam’s hands, I think that she will continue to heal. And much of the groundwork was already achieved prior to rekindling her relationship; Charlie is not a damsel in distress, and Sam is not grooming her for a life of abuse.
I had high hopes for this book, and I was not disappointed. That Claiming His Brat caused me to shed tears, was totally unexpected. Fantastic work. Thank you.
After reading a review that seemingly disparages the author's experience in BDSM, I'm stunned by their conclusions. This book touched several things with me that made it more real for me. One, sometimes a sub/little does not want a safeword. Not because using one makes them a "wuss," but because it makes the experience more intense and having to trust someone when trust is an issue can be extremely fulfilling. Two, when in a deeply emotional state, sometimes people want to have the control handled by someone else so they can feel cared for and nutured. Three, since when does Daddy Dom always equal age play? In what I have learned of Daddy Dom (which admittedly isn't much), it is more about having emotional support than feeling like a five-year-old who needs a spanking.
Having read the author's blog (kessilylewel.com) in the past, I find her insights and opinions to be educational and thought-provoking. I have been in the life-style for more years than I'd like to admit (I really am only 29. lol), and I've seen many different aspects of it and lived different aspects of it. The one good thing about fiction is that it allows us to live an experience that most of the time would not be feasible. Fiction can be make-believe mixed in with "oh, I wish that could happen," and allows us to live out fantasies that in real life might not be safe.
That being said, I do not usually read Daddy Dom themes because I don't really understand it, but this book was eye-opening into a new genre. It was hot and exciting in a way I never thought I would attach to Daddy Dom themes. I definitely will pay more attention to this in the future and give this book a two thumbs up.
Kessily's characters are powerful and how they interact had me hooked before I got through the first chapter. I had to be up for work the next morning, and I was surprised to find that it was 2 am when I finished the book. I just couldn't stop reading. Didn't have a clue of the time. I re-read books all the time and this one will be read many, many times in the near future.
I could not wait to get my hands on this book. Little teasers and snippets had been shared all laying the ground work to making sure that my interest was piqued and I was excited. Claiming His Brat is one of those fully fleshed stories that leaves you wanting more. The characters have depth and grow as the story does. I liked the fact that these two were already in love. So instead of a love at first sight story we got the opportunity to watch two people who were already in love figure out how to make that love work for them. How to get what they both wanted out of their dynamic and eventually each other. It was refreshing to have a main character who knew what she needed even if it took her awhile to get there. Charlie was complex and even a bit annoying (as some find brats to be) yet I found myself rooting for her as the book went on. Sam was strong and confident in a non-cocky way which pulled me in even more. He had flaws and we got to see pieces of the story from HIs point of view so that made Him that much more human. The sex is hot as it always is in a Kessily Lewel book. The scenes are long and detailed and believable. From safewords to aftercare we see the desire of the author to craft relatable and real D/s for her readers. This book is a Daddy book and while there are hints at age play it will appeal to anyone who is just looking to have that special someone take care of them. The author gave us this little world on this ranch and I for one cannot wait to go back.
Charlie and Sam grew up together on Charlie'd father ranch. First best friends and later on lovers, they broke up about 2 years before the story begins, and not on best terms. After Charlie father dies, it turns out that he left Sam in charge to run the ranch, which is a bitter pill for Charlie to swollow. Even though Charlie is angry and frustrated , she can't tear herself away from Sam, the love of her life. Poor Sam is left dealing with their on/off/ friends with benefits relationship, until (obviously) he gets fed up and decides to become Charlie's Daddy Dom with a all or nothing terms. Even though I wanted to smack Charlie on her head most of the story, I do understand her emotions and turmoil. Her mom abounded her when she was young and trusting is hard for her. It takes a very determined Sam and one hell of a punishment scene to make her come to terms with her love for Sam. Beside being a very hot book to read, the story is about emotional growth that delves deep into the main characters' psych, and that's not usually common for this type of books. I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars because the ending felt unfinished to me. I wanted a "one year after" epilogue that tells us if Charlie got her half of the ranch and what the hell was written in the letter her father had left her that she never read...

A book I had been waiting to read, I was not disappointed I had been waiting to read this book and it seemed to take forever for it to arrive and when I actually received it and read it I was so happy that I had waited, it was a splendid read and I would highly recommend this book to anyone I liked the fact that the two characters were already in love and so within the pages of this book you experience the growth of the characters and their feelings for each other, it takes time but the are able to get what they want from each other out of the relationship even though it takes some time. The male character is and he Sam is complex and at times can be fairly irritating however he is also a wonderful Daddy and is able to provide Charlie with exactly what she needs whether it be discipline or love and gentle or firm handling depending on the females requirement. This is a wonderful Daddy Dom book and I assure you that it will be a splendid read, the plots are thorough and extremely detailed and the characters are so well written. I hope that you will enjoy reading this book as much as I have and I am sure other readers will feel the same. voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Charlie had just finished at grad school when her father died. At the funeral she had no one as she had pushed them away even Sam who she had grown up with. Sam had helped look after her father while he was ill and she resented him for it. Standing at the grave side she wished he was there to lean on. When they went to the solicitor’s for the reading of the will Charlie thought she would get everything but he father had other plans. He left her the house all his money but the ranch he left for Sam to run and she had to go back to complete her master’s. So the trouble began. Charlie loves Sam but resented him being in charge. She goes to work but keeps complaining. One night during a storm she runs over to Sams as she has never liked thunder and lightning and so there affaire began but she keeps leaving his bed in the early hours so Sam gives her a what she needs. I’m not going to spoil the rest only to say it a book you will not be able to put down. I received an ARC for an honest review which I have given
I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. Charlie and Sam are thrown back together when her father passes away. It is the last place she wants to be, but her fathers wishes. They now both have a stake the ranch and have to find a way to work together. Sam is determined on having more from her. He has to convince her to follow her heart and trust what is between them. He will give her just enough rein to make her way but does not hesitate to pull back and set her on the right path when needed. I thought the characters had a great chemistry. The storyline was well written with a lot of emotion. I look forward to reading more in this series
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Charlie’s mother left her and her Dad when Charlie was very young that left her with many issues. Her Dad as a rancher and Charlie worked with him growing up. Sam and Charlie grew up together on the ranch as Sam’s father was foreman and lived there. Charlie’s father died and left the house to her and the ranch to Sam. Charlie and Sam were once together and Charlie went away to school because her father demanded it. Charlie was a definite brat. I was ready to strangle her in the first chapter. Sam takes as much as he can until he starts to punish her. Will Sam and Charlie get back what they once had or just be partners in business on the ranch? This is a five star book and Authors ❤️❤️.
An amazing D/s story. It is very well written and honestly refreshing to see all sides of it in one story. You can feel the relief Charlie has at the end and her constant turmoil during the story while making decisions. You can also feel Sam's frustrations when it is his POV. The bedroom scenes are definitely spicy and will keep you entertained while the 2 main characters get their stuff together!
There is only ONE problem I have with the book... I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS IN THE LETTER! You go throughout the whole story with Charlie with this unopened letter from her recently departed dad but you never find out what it says.
This was a good story and the story line is a little different than most cowboy books, so that was refreshing. I loved Charlie and how smart and sassy she was. I also loved how conflicted her feelings were and that she was able to recognize this and was brave enough to do something about it. Sam is the strong, silent type and he loves Charlie with everything he has. They've been through a lot together since they were kids and they learn to lean on each other. Ranch life isn't easy but together they figure out how to make it work. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
From the beginning I really didn't like Charlie or Sam. She was such a spoiled, self-centered brat and he struck me as a milquetoast doormat. Until getting 3/4 through, I was ready to walk away from both of them without a thought. But somehow, Sam grew a pair and laid down the law. Trying as it was, it just goes to show that the most important part of a relationship is communication, which they didn't have. Now I have to read on because I'm dying to see what Jimmy had to say.
First time reading this author. I stumbled on her blog with my Master. He purchased the book for me. I enjoyed the story very much. Charlie is back home to bury her dad. Sam is her childhood friend and Dom. What she needs is a Daddy. That is just what she gets. However the brat comes out and could destroy it all. Is Charlie will to commit or lose her Daddy Dom forever? Some things annoyed me with Charlie. She was a tad too bratty. I wanted to see more dominance from Sam too.
I really enjoyed this story. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.
Charlie is going through a lot right now. She has lost her father, and the running of the ranch to the foreman, her former lover. Sam is equally surprised when the will is read. He wants Charlie back. He just doesn't like the yoyo that she is putting them through. Charlie still loves him but is holding back. Charlie is struggling right now and is not sure how to get back in balance. Will Sam be able to help her out and give her what she needs?
Sometimes, these books can be all steam and no substance, but I loved this book as it had the steamy parts but alongside a brilliant storyline. I loved how Charlie and Sam where together from a young age best friends then to be where there are by the end of the book. The way that Sam is with Charlie towards the end of the book is something she really needed to help her share things she'd kept to herself and she just needed that step. Fantastic storyline with steam and heat to keep you hot this winter.
This book reminded me of a book I've read before but Kindle says I haven't read this one. It's trying to be crazy cuz I would have read the one it reminded me of on Kindle. But regardless I read this book. Something didn't land right with me. I've read a lot of the style books and this one just didn't sit with me. He calls her kiddo and that didn't land right with me. But it was more than that. There was something about their dynamic that just didn't work for me.
This is an excellent book, and it has characters that you will love. I really like how the character's motivations are explained and I love how bratty the main female character is. There is a nice amount of spanking, and use of a paddle and a belt, these scenes are very well written and hot as well. There is a goodly amount of sex, because after the spanking there is sex, including some anal sex. This is a very good story and I recommend it highly.
I liked it but I didn't love it. I was annoyed with Charlie who seemed to be particularly immature and selfish. Lots of focus on her emotions but it was all about her. Though Sam was equally annoying with all his threats and he just seemed to spank a lot. The sex scenes had promise but felt rushed and I was really frustrated about the letter.
I got the premise, I'm just not convinced bt the execution. I'm tempted by the next in the series but hesitant in case I'm left frustrated...
An enjoyable story that was captivating by the emotional connection between the characters and myself. Her struggles hit home to me and I thought the author did s brilliant job of handling her issues with sensitivity. The love they had was undeniable and I couldn’t help but root for them.
I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.
For the most part a wonderful story. The only thing is the letter she never opened . It is mentioned several times yet remains unopened. I feel the story just doesn't have closure. The love between Charlie and Sam is inspiring and their Daddy dom relationship is hot.
It’s a 4.5 star book for me. Emotional, intelligent, and well written, this novel did a good job of explaining the brat’s mindset and what had caused it. I enjoyed reading the book but was bothered by the punishment “spanking” that involved some unpleasant implements. This is just a small part of the book and you may not feel that way at all. Altogether, it’s an interesting, well written book.
