Worthless Jilted by her fiancé, Jocelyn Tanner had to struggle not to believe that her own value had been somehow diminished. Still, she knew better than to let that fear ruin her tour of England. But no one explained to her that there would be a mock bride auction—or that she would be sucked back in time to the close of the eighteenth century.
Priceless Suddenly Jocelyn found herself in another time another body, and in a real auction—being claimed by a real hunk of a man. Still, her bride price hardly seemed flattering. And the handsome Garren had not yet shown her the attention for which she yearned. But as she began to make this new body her own, she saw interest flare behind the lord’s reserved facade. She’d soon show him—and herself—in pounds or pennies, no one was worth more than his… Sixpence Bride
This is a great book! I loved it....This is a time travel romance/historical book. Jocelyn took a trip to England by herself. She was suppose to be on her honeymoon but she was jilted. She was asked to be part of the reenactment of a "bride sale". She was standing on an auction block in period costume one minute and the next she blacked out and found herself back in time at a real "bride auction" (in another womans body) being hauled up onto a block of wood. A handsome gentleman rides up on his horse and offers sixpence for her. He buys her and takes her to the church and marries her right away. He thinks she is very strange the way she speaks. He even thinks she maybe half mad. However, his father gave him a time limit to get married so now he was married. He didn't tell him who to marry so she should be good enough.
Now Garren Warrick (the Earl of Spenceworth) will take his bride back to his family estate and go on his merry way to London. His life wont change and she can be happy there. He fulfilled his father's wishes and he can forget her. He was sooo wrong! One of my favorite scenes was...... The first night at the estate they are having dinner at the big long table....Jocelyn at one end and Garren at the other. She decides to get a chair and sit right next to him. He still ignores her and wont allow her to converse at the dinner table. So when the dessert(some kind of custard) comes she starts flicking it from her spoon at him just to get his attention. She keeps hitting him until a blob is dangling off his nose. He finally gives her such a glare of warning she stops.
She doesn't appreciate being dumped and his father comes to her rescue. They eventually get their HEA but first they must go through some adventures.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a great time travel romance.
A cute, believable time travel (if you can believe time travel is real). Jocelyn was likable and funny, and while I had to raise my eyebrows at a few parts, overall I enjoyed this book.
This was a pretty quick read. I love the time travel concept and I think it was pulled off fairly well. Though not explored as much as I would have liked. There really isnt much character development. Nor was there much of a plot besides the fact that she time traveled. There could have been so much more to this if the author decided to delve into the fact the hero was working for parliament and now he had a handy dandy bride from the future on his side! But oh well.
Jadinya kurang nendang. Endingnya jg cuma gitu doang, agak menggantung.
An average time travel story. In the beginning the hero is too much of a man of few words and the heroines adaptation to the 1770's were too smooth. A bit more angst would have made the story more believable.
This story is actual a time travel. Good read. A reenactment of an eighteenth-century wife sale ended up sending her back to the past where she is the wife being sold and an aristocrat purchases her for sixpence. The aristocrat marries her to appease his father the Duke.
I learned something new today-- that there is a category of books called "Time Swept Romances" and that people go ga-ga over them. I inherited a bunch of copies of this book from the leftovers at a booksale, and the seller knew I had an interest in SC authors. As I try and read everything that's on my shelf, I gave this a go. Despite a cover that is a little scary with a gravity defying dress and an odd looking man, I read the book. I love time travel stories, though this is a little different than my usual (ie Jack Finney and such). Much of my attention was back on the poor gel that got zapped into our time. I figure the author has done a book from her point of view, too. Anyhow, I guess for those who like this genre it's okay. I like a little more meat to my characters and plot. I liked that Jocylen came from South CArolina, though!
A Note from the Author A wife sale reenactment, a twist in time and Jocelyn Tanner finds herself in another woman's body and whisked away by an arrogant earl bent on revenge. Garren Warrick, the Earl of Spenceworth, soon learns that making Jocelyn his bride does not make her his wife. And though she comes from a world he'll never know, Garren will risk his heart and the laws of time to hold tight to his Sixpence Bride.
A SC Author from Spartanburg or Summerville-- not sure as I can find her listed both places.
More like 4 1/5. It was such a quick read, super funny and cute. Loved the heroine and the story, but I really would have enjoyed it more if it had more development. I would've liked to see how Nelwina fared in the 21st century, what they would feel if they returned to their original time and then traded bodies again, a little more romance between the main characters, a clearer ending for the villain... it felt quite rushed, as if the author had to cut a lot of the story out. Too bad, it could have been a 5 star! :) I will read it again, though.
