I thought the book would never end. It was sooo boring, I finished it only because I don't like to leave books unread once I've started them. The heroine was illogical and irritating and with no character, though Ms Riley attempted to show her as one having character. Well, she didn't manage it. The hero was an infuriating neanderthal and I can understand why his first wife cheated on him. He was just mean and stupid. And the plot was not only predictable, but also just not my style. I liked the other book by Ms Riley I've read better. It was at least funny. Or maybe I've just grown up and my taste has changed.

So I adore time traveling books. Most of them. This one killed me on page 14, where the guy who demanded a wife from the ocean after it killed his other wife who was supposedly unfaithful, has the adacity to say and I quote,

"Not a bad one, you are, either. Not quite beautiful, but plenty pretty enough enough for a dairy farmers bride."

Seriously. You asked for a wife and you get one, then complain she's not a jaw dropping beauty? The man in this book comes across as very toxic and frustrating and I've never wanted to slap someone so badly before in my life. Read a bit more and am dnf'ing at page 50, in that this is one of the most annoying books I'd read in a while.

Ugh.

It was a well written book, with a nice plot.
But there was this problem....
The hero!
He was this avalanche bulldozing in to the heroines life and wants so she could raise his god damn kids!
Plus he tsk-tsk her when ever she is to forward but tells stuff like... 'Ar.ar.I,the many man that I am, have a nice big sausage for you! Hehe..'
I do not care if the author portraits him as handsome! I got creeped out by him. He was like those suspicions looking men in the park that stalk you and you just know there is nothing under that raincoat!
Plus, how does raising kids let him have such moral grounds! He wants the heroine to marry him because she slept under his roof one nigh but he married his first wife only after he knocked her up! Sweep in front of your own door first mister, then start pointing fingers.

I would have killed this hero with a shovel if I was the heroine. So I had no pleasure from reading about their HEA.

This was recommended to me and since it had been awhile since I had read a time-travel romance and decided to give it a shot. This was just an okay read for me. The story was super long. The other issue I had is Jake. Jake is a widower with two young girls who requests a wife from the ocean. Pricilla is then swept back in time and Jake decides that she is meant to be his wife. Throughout the book he keeps saying that he understands Pricilla and what she needs but he then ends up doing exactly everything Pricilla was afraid of but yet she still wants to be with him. Can we say toxic relationship? Just not for me I was disappointed.

I had a hard time with this book...it didn't make sence and bored me to death. I had to struggle to finish it, so many many plot flaws. Plus the premis that the hero assumed they would marry from the minute she showed up was so stupid...I'd have assumed he was NUTS and run. Nothing was really developed in the story...just sort of slammed out there. This writer must have a confused mind, the writing was so infantil. I didn't care if they worked things out or not. I didn't care if they were in love....I only wanted to wade thru to the end of the book. I had never read anything by her...and will never do it again.

I've read this book many times and it has always been a favourite of mine. At times I did find Priscilla annoying as she constantly denied her feelings for Jake. But she does start to fall the lonely man and his darling daughters.

I recommend this if you don't mind a slow burb romance! It's worth it though!

Again a great book! Would of given it a 5 but it did drag a bit.
As usual a read Ms. Riley's books while listening to the song or music she describes in them.

I found I extremely disliked the heroine and disliked the hero. The heroine was a two timer-even though she had excuses for everything she did, her relationship with the hero was toxic until the end, she was quite stupid and had the dumbest reasons for the things she did, and she seemed one-dimensional. I just couldn't connect with her on any level, and her sob story about her childhood was pretty pathetic. The hero had no attractive qualities amd didn't make me want to cheer for him at all. I honestly didn't care about him or the heroine. Plus, the book is a love triangle-something I personally hate. The only reasons I gave the book 4 stars was because there were no grammar mistakes I could find, the writing was okay, and the history was good as well. Also, the book made me smile by the end so I guess that's something. (Don't know why I smiled though because their love didn't didn't seem like love, even now I still feel like they didn't love each other, but I guess I just like happy endings)

I liked this book but was a little annoyed that Priscilla felt that see needed to marry a well-to-do man, with good standing in the community, because of her father's abusive treatment of her and her mother.
Acerky was a rude, self-centered snob. Even though he was a model citizen, he still tried to climb the social ladder and he felt that Jake Blarney was beneath him. And he felt that Priscilla would be an outcast for associating with Jake. I can't believe that he testified against Jake in his custody battle of his daughters, to get back at Priscilla! I'm so glad Priscilla came to her senses before she married Acerky.
I loved how Priscilla told Acerky off after she married Jake. She called him a snob, among other things because he looked down his nose, at Jake.

Can live be found in a bottle? Read this tale to find the answer

Eugenia Riley brings us all to world all too real for women and children suffering from abusive men who dominate their families because of their own lack of true character and too much booze. This we find Priscilla trying to improve her life after an unhappy childhood. Wondering along Texas coast she picks up a sea tossed bottle containing a poem which tugs her to another time she must over come but one she discovers it was here all along. Warning spoilers - lots of steamy bedroom scenes.

A message in a bottle- a wish across time

What a great story. I loved both characters , especially Jake because he believes and despite all odds never gives up. Priscilla is full of issues - trust issues but with Jake never giving up she embraces her future. Love this story and the twist of fate - going back in time to your home. What would you do ? Or what wouldn't you do? Time and love will tell.

I have never read anything by this author before so it took a bit to get started but after a while I found myself laughing out loud and couldn’t wait to pick up where I had to leave off. At the end I enjoyed the self awareness Priscilla was able to find. There are a lot of us living our lives with a wounded child guiding our way. I just bought another of this author’s books and hope I enjoy it as much as I did this one.

The book was too long, and could have been cut by half. I ended up reading the final chapters and skipping the middle. I did not like the "hero", a man who stalked the heroine and could not take no for an answer. This book was evidently written some years ago, well before the time of "me too".

Time swept Bride

Having read Eugenia Riley's books in the past, I looked forward to this story. It's premise is good but so caught up with constantly describing the clothing was a turnoff. The main character constantly pushing herself to be respected was another angst-filled problem for me. I struggled with giving a 4 star rating. Probably closer to a 3.

Two star rate

Stretched out story with loads of filler pages. Characters were ok but fought and argued throughout entire book which got annoying. The Irishness of main male character really needed some work before publication. Can't recommend this one

Fun, entertaining

I’ve always thought time travel is, or should be, a real thing. This story is woven so perfectly, it is believable in its simplicity. And I love that all the loose ends were tied up and not loose at all.

Enjoyable time travel romance

I enjoyed that this didn’t spend a lot of time trying to convince people that she was from the future. Just told her story in a different time.

I totally enjoyed this wonderful story, the plot was outstanding along with wonderful humorous characters. I have always been intrigued with time travel either people going back in time explaining the future or traveling ahead. What it might be like for those to explain cars, planes etc. Ms. Riley gives a compelling story of Priscilla traveling back over 100 years to a time when women didn’t have to many choices. To a very alpha male who is bullhead and stubborn who is taking his women no matter what.

Priscilla is headstrong herself she feels she knows what she wants but sometimes what we want isn’t what we need. First she must overcome being dumped by her ex, then travel back and meet her ex’s great-great-great grandfather who she thinks is the man for her. She must get over her painful past before she can not only live again but love the right man. Who that man is might surprise you as the author gives us a humorous story of two men who wants to call Priscilla their own.

Jake is raising twin girls after his wife ran off with another man to lose her life in a boat as they cross the ocean. He asks the ocean who took his bride to give him another. Months later the ocean spits out a lovely lady. who is he to look a gift horse in the month. He makes plans to marry but Priscilla isn’t having anything to do with it. Jake must put his plan in to action to keep his prize before Mr. Frost can take her way from him.

I found this to be a wonderful read that at times had me laughing out loud. The author gives us a wonderful story of time in a bottle which brings some surprising people together for a wonderful told story that will keep you smiling to the end. I felt this story was well told and a page turner, I read it in one day and could not put it down. The words flowed easy as the author gives us a wonderful plot with a few twists and turns to keep it interesting. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Ruined? by who's definition? She doesn't accept the turn of the century mentality and sets out to succeed anyway.

This review is from: TIMESWEPT BRIDE (Kindle Edition)
Swept back in time after being jilted, this gal isn't going to let it slow her down. Yes she falls for adorable twins, but She is not about to settle for their father. She knows his type and is not about to let him ruin her life, no matter how much he claims he's ruined her so she has to marry him or be ruined. The more he threatens the more she gets down right determined he's not the man for her ! He may need her when the twins fall ill, he may have swept her into bed, but she isn't going to let a little thing like that force her to marry him !
She proves that she can be independent and land on her feet even if it's a hundred years in the past. She isn't going to be labeled a soiled dove just because he says so, and his threats just make her mad. When it comes to losing his twins she can't allow it, she loves the twins and their father, and believes he will be different then she'd first thought. Sometimes a Lady just needs that ability to change her mind, and stay where the heart takes her.

This book is everything I most hate in all literature, but especially in romance novels as it maligns the good name of any author of the genre of any worth. The plot is so plain, the whole book could be condensed to ten pages if it weren't for all the slipshod dialogue and the tedious description of settings that doesn't seem to have a purpose other than a desperate grab by a second rate writer to appear more worldly, more intelligent, or simply better than she obviously is. why this book was ever published is something of a mystery, but if you ask me, it stands for an exegesis on public education and aliteracy in America. People don't read often or well enough to spot crap on a page anymore.

Galveston in the 1800's

Time travel is a delightful theme, and to land on the 1880's island of Galveston was a treat. The height of society, the caste culture were well researched and described. While a bit on the lusty side, the characters were presented well, and you found yourself loving and hating some traits simultaneously. The ending was predictable, of course, but included some antics that entertained.
