It’s safe to say that Ella Coopers day does not start well following a fire at her flat she didn’t cause, her landlord evicting her and to cap it all she gets the sack. Later the same day she receives a phone call from her polar opposite twin sister Emma who asks her to step into her shoes (probably Laboutins to Ella’s Primark) and impersonate her for six weeks! What has she got to lose by faking it by being a married woman with two kids for a short spell?

This is such a fun read! I really like the way it’s written as it’s lively and engaging. Ella is fantastic, she jumps into her sisters life with both feet and boldly goes frequently where her sister doesn’t! It’s light, breezy and funny in places and packed with good characters. Emma’s husband Rich is a nice guy though at times somewhat distracted, son Henry is simply edible and Millie is a teenager. Yip, snark and all, still it does bite her in the proverbial with Ella to the dramatic rescue! Then there’s Marco, yes there’s a Marco just to even the balance with the yummy mummy Mafia. Shoot me now. The story is really heartwarming, Ella learns a lot about herself, about her sister and it’s all to the good. Ella realises exactly what she wants and what’s important and there’s a good message here. The ending is a bit weepy but followed by warm and fuzzies!

Overall, a very enjoyable easy to read novel that is perfect for the right now and yucky winters days. I want to read more by this author for sure.

I am delighted to tell you all: I LOVED THIS!!!!

Emma and Ella are twin sisters that couldn't be more different. They may look exactly alike but personality wise not so much. Emma was always the smart, popular, goody two shoes while Ella was a bit rough around the edges and who tells it like it is. They have been estranged over the last ten years since their mom passed away so Ella is shocked to receive a message of help from her long lost sister. Curious as to what it is she needs when she is told the unbelievable - Emma has to go to prison for 6 weeks and she wants Ella to take over her life in her absence. That means taking care of her niece and nephew she doesn't even know and pretending to be Rich's wife all the while attending PTA meetings and luncheons with the other Yummy Mummys. Ella, who recently lost her job and is homeless because her flat caught fire doesn't have many choices so she packs her bags and plops herself down into a lifestyle so different from her own that she doesn't know up from down.

That is the gist of the story but there is so much more I could say. This book warmed my heart and I was smiling ear to ear throughout. Ella thinks herself a loser but she isn't. Far from it. She is a wonderfully warm and caring person and being around her estranged family you can really see her shine. I adored her so much. And Marty the dog who had me howling. In fact, I adored everyone for the most part - except for the Yummy Mummy's though, never them. Being that this is a rom-com there is witty, flirtatious banter to be had on nearly every page and I was all for it. This book actually reminded me a bit of one of my all time favorite movies, Uncle Buck, with the lovable John Candy (RIP) - so this was bound to be a winner for me in nearly every way and it was. I have no complaints just a warm heart and a sore face from smiling so much.

Some quotes I enjoyed:

"I am somehow too cool to be uncool enough to be cool here - even saying that gives me a headache."

"Wow, they told me Millie was difficult, they didn't tell me what a dick she was. I don't care if she's only fifteen, I call it like I see it."

"My body tells people that the only working out I do is what my pizza is going to cost me with my '20% off' code."

Highest recommendation! 5 PERFECT stars!!!

What would you do if you suddenly had to impersonate your more successful identical twin sister? Fake it till you make it... or till you get caught out!

Last year I named "Faking it" as one of my most anticipated reads for 2021 and I sure got it right. It did not disappoint in the least. Such a perfect feel good story for this weird times.

I don't know how the author does it, but I get to fall in love with her characters every single time. They're delightful, lovable, funny... Ella was the perfect mix of crazy and level headedness. I just loved how she didn't think twice about going to her sister's aid even though she could have used past grievances to not wanna help her, not reproaching her at all. It was so funny reading about her new "mum" status and her dealings with Emma's kids (yeah, I even liked the moody teenager and I always hate moody teenagers), her colleagues and the Yummy Mummy Mafia (what an apt moniker!). And Marco. What to say about Marco except...where can I get one like him?!

It's not usual I cry out laughing while reading, but I found myself with tears in my eyes more than once. And not only tears of laughter and joy, cause there was a curveball thrown almost at the end that made me teary eyed all again but for emotional reasons. I had such a goofy smile on my face the whole time!

"Faking it" is a sweet story about families, the one you're born into and the one you make for yourself, and the importance of talking to each other when we have the chance, not holding onto silly grudges that the only thing they will achieve is to make us lose time and the possibility of creating beautiful moments with those around us.

Another winner from one of my favourite authors! Faking It is a hilarious rom-com with lovely and lovable characters, a quirky plotline and some unexected emotional moments.

Despite being thirty-four, Ella is drifting through her life a bit aimlessly...until one fateful day she loses her job (admittedly, she wasn't all that invested in it), her car (which has been on ts legs for some time) and her flat (which was tiny and smelt funny, but was her haven). She will figure it all out somehow, she just needs a few days to get her head round all of this. Then her sister Emma calls and asks for help and Ella can't refuse. Even though they have been estranged for a decade, Ella shouldn't find it too difficult to impersonate her identical twin with her perfect house, rich husband and two children, while Emma goes away for six weeks. No, Ella doesn't lie to herself, she knows it will be next to impossible to trick everybody into believing her, but she understands her sisters's reasons (or she thinks she does) and you do have to help your family in the time of need. Of course, she has a few missteps, like almost causing a car pile at the school drop-off or failing to confiscate her nephew's videogame at his bedtime.

Portia MacIntosh has a wonderful sense of humour and will make you laugh out loud while reading the book, but there are also deep and thought-provoking moments. Ella intuitively senses her sister's life isn't all that peachy and not just because she definitely needs to stay away from the vipers of her so-called friends. Ever since they were children, Ella was the one to fight back for what she thought was right, so if you think jobless, homeless and rudderless Ella is a bit flaky, she is going to surprise you. This is what I love about Portia's characters- they are strong and they learn, they develop and grow. The kids are adorable, even the grumpy fifteen-year-old. There are also other delightful secondary characters, including Ella's love interest ( or should I say love interests?).

The book is entertaining, uplifting, funny and tender at the same time, It is a perfect rom-com. If you are not a fan of this fabulous author, you are going to be after reading it! Highly recommended.

Romcom perfection with a Freaky Friday vibe. Portia MacIntosh once again completely charmed me with this story packed with delightful characters and whimsical antics. Ella is in a bit of a rut. She lost her job, destroyed her pride, and burned her apartment down all on the same day. So when her twin sister Emma reaches out asking her to “take her place“ for six weeks Ella jumps at the chance. How hard can it be? They are identical after all. Even though Ella has not seen her niece and nephew in over a decade and has no experience at motherhood, she is certain this will go well. That is Until Ella ends up pulling in the wrong carpool drop off line, has no idea how to operate the coffee machine, and thought chicken nuggets was a good dinner choice. OK perhaps this is harder than Ella thought, but she can do this.

So much laugh out loud fun! Ella was great! Even though she got herself into some trouble she always seem to get out of it in her own way. Her relationships with the kids were great. I liked her different perspective, I think sometimes as moms we get fixated on the wrong things and this was kind of like a fresh reset. There is also a delightful love interest in the Story, Marco. We would all be lucky to find a Marco, he was so supportive, understanding, and oh yeah hot. Another stellar book from this fabulous author!

Favorite Quotes:

Then we have Arthur, who is the local know-it-all, who keeps the info up to date. He’s probably in his early seventies, and has lived here all his life. He holds his non-smartphone as if it’s a dog turd – a dog turd that might have a bomb in it, perhaps, because he eyeballs it so suspiciously.

To be honest, I hated being on the bus with the kids; it was like being trapped inside a headache.

I guess I’ll just have to try talking to her again – unless you’re allowed to return kids to the hospital or something. Can you return the ones that turn out horrible?

‘I’m going to embarrass her so hard she’ll spend the next year in her room trying to work out how to change her identity,’ I reply. ‘Millie has been walking all over Emma for too long. I’m going to go in there and – maybe I’ll grab a drink? Maybe I’ll get up on a table and dance?’

What do I say? ‘I’m Edward’s mum,’ I lie. ‘He forgot his anti-diarrhoea medication. I thought I’d better bring it.’ ‘You’re not my mum,’ he says angrily before turning to his lady friend. ‘She’s not my mum.’

Marco’s body tells me that he’s no stranger to the gym. My body tells people that the only working out I do is what my pizza is going to cost me with my ‘20 percent off’ code.

My Review:

I giggle-snorted my way through this endearingly witty and crisply written delight and am already eager for more of the same. This was good fun and packed with wry and wily humor, touching insights, and highly amusing observations and character descriptions. Portia MacIntosh is the bombdiggity and a recent discovery for me. I want to amass all her divinely snarkalicious and clever arrangements of words.

5☆ A Laugh out Loud, Fun, Uplifting, Rom Com. A Must Read!

Faking It is the perfect name for this laugh out loud Rom Com. I thoroughly enjoyed every single bit of it.

Emma and Ella are identical Twins but oh so very different in personalities.
So when Emma rings Ella saying she's in desperate need of her help, because she's going to have to go away for a while.
Ella can't believe her oh so perfect sister has been so stupid.

But down on her luck, out of a job and pretty much homeless, she doesn't really have a choice but accept Emma's offer.

You see Emma lives the perfectly happy and wealthy life. Two children, a loving hubby, a gorgeous fur baby and a good social network, and she can't bare the shame of the neighbours or her friends finding out what's happened to her!

So she persuades Ella to impersonate her until she gets out of jail.
No one can know apart from her hubby Rich.
Easy right?.... I mean they are identical what could possibly go wrong?
Lol but judging by the fact Ella hasn't even seen her Nephew or her Niece in years, and has never been to the family home, she most certainly has got her work cut out for her... with some hilarious consequences!

Oh and watch out for Marco! He and Ella become increasingly close, he's handsome, Smart, Fun, and a bit of a Con Artist, but all is not as it seems! Will he suss out Ella's secret?

I'm a huge fan of Portia MacIntosh's books and once again she has written an absolute Gem of a Book!
She is such a super talented Author and her books just keep getting better and better!
Faking It was the perfect tonic I needed to cheer myself up.

Faking It is a Highly Entertaining, Fun, Laugh out Loud, Uplifting, Feel-good read, but at times Tender and Emotional.
The Characters are superbly written, the plot flowed along seamlessly, I loved all the drama, mishaps, mayhem and lil twists it kept the book exciting and fun.
This book is jam packed with so much it was impossible not to love it.

Would I recommend reading this book?...... without a Doubt.....100% YES!!

This was a great, fun read. It was comic and entertaining and I loved MacIntosh’s range of characters. My first read from this author, I am certain that it will not be my last.

Twins swapping roles is the premise for this story, with Ella stepping up to be her sister for six weeks. With no home, no relationship and no employment to worry about, Ella thinks this is a great way to put off making any important decisions for a while. However, it’s like a case of ‘the prince and the pauper’ as sister, Emma, has the lifestyle we dream of. Plenty of money, a large house and a quaint village location, Emma is the “super mum” that can, apparently, do no wrong. Of course, it’s a shock to the system for Ella, who soon discovers that Emma’s daily schedule is as full as Ella’s was empty. What ensues is an entertaining read as Ella adjusts to this full-on “mum mode”.

There are plenty of giggles in this narrative. I loved how forth-coming and honest Ella was about her experiences. There were many that I could relate to and I think this is what will make this very popular with readers. Ella is able to almost completely protect the secret of being her sister Emma (did I mention that they are identical twins?!) but I loved the jeopardy she finds herself in when growing attracted to a couple of members of the school community. Of course, Ella has to remind herself that she is happily-married Emma who would not want a relationship but, deep down, this is what the real Ella truly wants.

This is a novel of change and growth. It was lovely to see Ella grow into herself and I really enjoyed watching her relationship blossom with her niece. Despite Ella having a bad reputation of being the “naughty twin”, she goes to prove how much she has changed. As such, this is undoubtedly a heart-warming story with plenty of laughs along the way.

Reading it in January proved to be an added bonus! The story begins in the New Year, so this is perfect for readers starting 2021. Apart from this, I think it would make a great holiday read because it is straight-forward to follow and with only one narrative perspective. I think maybe I would have liked to read more about Marco or the other supporting characters, but I guess this is a story that needs us to focus on Ella’s change.

With plenty of chuckles, I loved the escapism that MacIntosh provides. We, along with Ella, slip into this seemingly perfect lifestyle of Emma’s and, it is not until we truly experience it, do we realise that Ella has more on her plate that she anticipated. From bitchy, competitive school mums, to the pressure of meeting all the extra-curricular commitments, I think this is a read that will spread plenty of joy. Not to be missed.

With thanks to Boldwood Books, NetGalley and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ella Cooper is living large: perfect home,✔️ perfect family, ✔️perfect car, ✔️and even an adorable dog ✔️.
The only problem with her perfect life? It actually belongs to her twin sister, Emma, who has asked her to step in and fill her stilettos for six weeks.

The sisters go together like tater tots and kale smoothies.

Never mind, that they’ve barely had contact for the past nine years. Because, Emma has made extensive lists.
Guess who doesn’t read them?
That’s right.

I began this audiobook on a whim during a trip to drop my dog off for surgery. I was nervous and needed a distraction. This book exceeded my expectations above and beyond! I couldn’t believe how quick I became invested in the plot, characters, and I love being slapped with unexpected twists. I adore a novel that can make me crack up laughing and this had me cackling.

“My body tells people the only working out I do is what my pizza is gonna cost me with my 20% off code.”

The fish out of water feeling Ella has trying to pass as Emma is heartfelt and genuine one moment because she has her own brand of integrity and she’s trying to make good choices, but Ella has shall I say flair?! The next moment it’s outright hilarious when she’s blindly bumbling her way through attempting to parent a rebellious teen, healthy cooking, and dealing with the local frenemies.

“To be honest, I hated being on the bus with the kids; it was like being trapped inside a headache.”

Faking It surprised me by being an uplifting story. The characters experience such growth and have spirit galore. There’s plenty of kicky dialogue throughout that I enjoyed and several scenes that crackle with energy.

There is a romantic thread woven in, but it is secondary to the main character’s personal development. As a woman in her mid-thirties, Ella, hasn’t had it handed to her. It was nice to see her take a deeper look at her own identity and come to terms with who she is and become more secure in that.

I found myself wanting to read more by this author because I love a humorous read with substance.

Whatever it is about one person’s life seeming alien to another, this novel cultivates that comedic gold.

Can't wait to read more by this author. This book follows Ella, the less successful twin, who gets a call from her perfect sister, Emma, asking for help in a tricky situation. Curious to step into her sister’s glamorous world, Ella agrees, expecting it to be fun. But as she navigates this new life, she soon realizes that things aren’t always as perfect as they appear.

I needed a break from the heavier stories I've been reading, and this light hearted fare hit the spot! Faking It, is a fun read filled with wry humor, amusing observations and many laugh at loud moments. A silly premise, that although done before in various ways, keeps you smiling and giggling while still managing to tug on your heart strings.

Ella is a young woman who is still trying to find her groove in this life. She has just lose her latest job and her apartment after a fire broke out in her living room when she gets a phone call from her grounded twin sister, Emma, who asks her to take her place for a few weeks. So Ella without anything to lose accepts and try to live her sister's life at the best she can, even if she soon finds out how hard it is to care about a teen girl, a kid and an husband without any experience. Will Ella keep her true identity a secret? Or will Emma regret to have asked her for a favour?

Faking it is another success for me.
I love Portia MacIntosh writing I read her books too quickly because she conquers me with her witty, funny wording and her characters from the first to the last chapter.

I adored that Emma has my age, she is so relatable for a woman like me who still doesn't have planned her life and she is trying to find her place in the World, plus we share the same memories of old gold times.

I highly recommend to read this novel because it not only is hilarious to see the vicissitudes of our main character, it also is thought-provoking.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Faking It was a pretty fun book to dive into. In it, you will meet Ella. At the moment, her life isn't going to great because she lost her job and her apartment in the same day. So she definitely needs to catch a break and drink something because hot damn girl.

Luckily for her, she gets a break. Emma, Ella's twin sister, is asking to switch places for about six weeks. Without hesitating, she decides it would be fun and easy to act like her sister. Plus, she gets to spend time with her niece and nephew too. So... I'm going to stop right here. Why? Well, this sounds exactly like the movie 'Switched for Christmas' which was on Hallmark forever ago.

Don't ask me why that just randomly popped into my head but it did. It also gave me parent trap vibes because the sisters switch places. Either way, I liked the vibes and I thought Ella doing almost everything wrong was pretty hilarious. So, yes, I'm sticking with my switched for Christmas vibes when it comes to this book.

Besides laughing through the pain, Ella's relationship with her niece and nephew was definitely cute. I also really enjoyed getting to know Marco too. He was a perfect addition to this book and definitely made things more enjoyable.

In the end, I guess it's just super awkward that I'm finally diving into this book but I'm really glad that I found the time to do so.

Completely hilarious even with actual laugh out loud moments.

Emma and Ella have barely seen each other since they were 18, with their lives going in very different directions and yet when Emma calls her identical twin sister Ella and asks for her help rather urgently, Ella reluctantly agrees.

And so we have Ella swapping places with her sister as Emma has to let's say go away for a few weeks, but doesn't want her reputation ruined. Almost no one even knows she has a twin, and Ella barely knows her niece and has never met her 9 year old nephew, so even her kids won't be any the wiser.

Ella who when we first meet her has just managed to lose her home, job and car all on the same day, and sounds like she may be rather flaky, knows she has been handed a lifeline even if its unusual and seeing how she copes as she attempts to be the best version of her sister that she can be is so so amusing.

I loved the way Ella developed and changed not just to be Emma but in time to be a better person within herself,

This is such a quirky and different storyline and it really kept me entertained, as you never knew what Ella as Emma would encounter next, let alone what her reactions might me. And she really gets to know the two kids, as well as well a few of the men in the village including one that could be Ella in male form!

I loved everything about this book, it was an entertaining and fast book to read and certainly up to Portia MacIntosh's normal standards if not even better! Just loads of fun and I can imagine it would be a very amusing film too!

3.5 stars. I found this story to be a really fun and enjoyable read and would have rated it higher until it came to the end because I literally felt bad for enjoying Ella and her crazy antics for as long as I did.

This was such a fun story! I've enjoyed quite a few books by this author, and this one's no exception.

Ella and Emma are identical twins who've become estranged since their mother's death. Imagine Ella's surprise, when an unexpected event leaves her having to fake her way through Emma's life. Ella and Emma are opposites, so faking it turns out to be harder than she'd expected.

The author's witty and engaging writing style keeps the story light throughout. There are quite a few humorous situations throughout, but this is a multilayered story with depth. Overall, this is a heartwarming story about family, priorities, love, and forgiveness.

Ella Copper’s day is not off to a great start. First her flat is partially burned, and then she gets evicted. Then she gets in trouble with her boss (again) and, well, yes, is fired. And then her car refuses to work as well. Ella is 35 years old and at a crossroad as what to do next. This is when she receives a call from her twin sister Emma. Emma has a huge favour to ask: could Ella, pretty please, step into her shoes and take her place for few weeks, as she doesn’t want other people to know that she’s away. She has her reasons. Those people who shouldn’t know that Ella is Emma are not only her friends but also her kids…
Actually, Ella has nothing to lose, right? Faking being a married woman, with two kids, must be a walk in the park, right?

I loved the idea of this book. The story is exploring „how the other half lives“, this time in the person of a twin sister who did better in life – but really? Is it really always how we see it or are there other things that we have no idea about? Well, Ella is about to learn, and learn does she, being thrown in at the deep end, and I loved to see how she’s coping – or not. How she’s slowly opening her eyes and seeing what it is she misses in her life, but also what Emma is missing, realising the most important points in life. There is really much more depth hidden between the pages than we could think at first glance, but Portia Macintosh brilliantly mixed seriousness with humour, delivering a lovely, uplifting read with some hilarious moments.

The main character was a typical Portia McIntosh’s heroine – cool, strong – headed, independent and who doesn’t give a shit about what others think about her. And I liked her for being like this and jumping into her sister’s shoes even though the relationship between them was not so perfect. The way she tried to find herself as a suddenly wife and mum was hilarious and her interactions with the children were brilliant. As well as with the Yummy Mummy Mafia, oh god, what an apt description it is for this. I think she has never lost her true identity, her true self, and I really admired this in her. Although I wasn’t so sure about Ella at the very beginning, to be very honest. I mean, she was a total mess, right, losing an apartment, job and car in a single day and actually not bothering about this so much. I am not sure what would happen with Ella is Emma hasn’t asked her fort his huge favour. But I also liked how she stayed true to herself. She gave her best in trying to be Emma, for the love of her sister and her family, but there were moments that she couldn’t help acting like herself which only added lots of humour to the story and made Ella even more authentic in my eyes.
Emma’s husband Rich was a nice guy though, till the very end, I really wasn’t sure if he’s not playing somewhere else, and the children were optimally written, the lovely Henry and Millie the teenager. It’s good though that Ella and Emma didn’t have much scenes together because well, it wouldn’t be too easy with those names, I think.

To be honest, I also thought that there will be much more things going wrong during this short arrangement between the sisters and what with some people already knowing about Ella faking Emma – it was a bit dangerous, don’t you think? If I were to pretend to be my sister I think I wouldn’t be able to persevere for so long. Nevertheless, some things went really well and some things went hilariously wrong and there are some truly funny situations.

It was a light – hearted, funny and also thought – provoking read with some hidden messages in it. It’s was fast – paced and engaging, a truly enjoyable read for those snowy days. A story about families, relationships and friendship, about second chances and not forgetting what is really important in life – not holding grudges but creating memories and being honest. A lovely read, truly recommended!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC to review.

I really wanted to like this book as the story sounded like fun. However, the heroine really annoyed me and I just never connected with any of the characters. It was a little too screwball comedy instead of snarky wit which is my preference.

Not to give too much of the plot away, think "Brat Farrar" without the murder mystery.

It was OK but I found myself skimming over some of the chapters. So, good enough to finish but overall rating is Meh.

I really, really loved this. Ella is hilarious, but also so relatable. The romance was sweet. But her and her niece and nephew growing closer each day was my favorite part.

What a fun, enjoyable experience it was to listen to this audiblebook! I didn't expect to love it as much as I did. This is about Emma and Ella, identical twins who trade places, and Emma takes over as the wife/mother that Ella is for six weeks in hopes that no one will notice. Emma is pretty much the complete opposite of Ella, so it was quite the experience for her to pull off. This was a book that had me laughing and it was hilarious and hard to put it down. There was an unexpected twist at the end that helped it come to a perfect happy ending. It was nice to read a fun book like this in between some of the other books I've been reading. I will definitely read more books by this Portia MacIntosh. I recommend this one if you want a fun, uplifting book to read.

Delightful!

Plot- Such a unique, fresh plot. A little far fetched but the author sold it.

Characters- Ok, I usually have a hard time with the childish “hot mess FMC” who has hit rock bottom bc she doesn’t adult. This started out a little like that, but the hilarious writing kept me going.
Soon, the FMC started to grow into her new role, and wow, she rocked it! She was insightful, fun, flirty, mature, and even learned new skills, like making delicious dinners for the family. And best of all, she came to appreciate and love the act of nurturing relationships. Esp an angsty teen and a rambunctious little boy. I enjoyed her growth so much! It was so heart warming and fun!
And I loved that she made amends at the end with a side character that she inadvertently hurt. That was classy.
I loved the love interest and the other many side characters were written so well.

Romance- This was such a fun aspect of the novel! Chemistry was high. I loved their relationship. And I loved her misadventures with the other single dudes in town. Made for a fun ride.
(Note: this had a bit of female wish fulfillment in that the FMC can’t be bothered to eat healthy and wouldn’t step foot in a gym, and yet the MMC is totally toned and fit with rock hard abs and chiseled muscles. This is me rolling my eyes. Thankfully this wasn’t a big focus AT ALL, so I was able to easily let it pass. I just think it’s a bit unbalanced to expect the guy to take care of his body so much but the girl doesn’t lift a finger to care for her body. 🤷‍♀️)

Writing - Brilliant. Seriously, the writing was hilarious and witty. I pretty much loved every minute. What a hoot!

Content-

Language- kind of a lot of f-words.
Spice- no sex on page- it was completely behind closed doors. Some adult themed gag gifts added a little crude content for comedy sake, but it wasn’t overdone.
Violence- no
Substance abuse- no.
Cover- cute
POV- single POV, first person
Cliffhanger- no. Standalone.
Format- audiobook via Hoopla library app
Narration- absolutely phenomenal!

So much fun! Ella is hilarious and always getting in all kinds of trouble.

Ella and Emma were not the typical twins we hear all about. They did not experience a deep connection to each other; in fact, they thought so differently they had been apart for more than ten years.

While Emma was the ever successful sibling, Ella struggled endlessly along the way. At age 34, Emma lived in a mansion, married to a gorgeous man, and mother to two lovely children. Meanwhile, Ella was alone, homeless, and unemployed.

It came as a shock to Ella that her sister was going to jail for a few weeks for some recurrent parking infractions, and she wanted Ella to fill in for her so that her kids and friends would not find out.

Ella wanted to refuse, but she had recently lost her job and home, and deep down, she loved her sister despite everything.

The book was so much fun! Ella is hilarious and always getting in all kinds of trouble.

Navigating through Emma’s rich and prosperous life was much more complicated than Ella had anticipated, especially when she meets the kid’s gorgeous drama teacher.

They could actually work if only he did not think that she was married (lol).

I’m a huge fan of Portia’s fun and witty stories, and Faking It does not disappoint.

I love that Ella was an unapologetic Bridget Jones. She was light, fun, and full of life. She was happy against all odds and society’s expectations.

The romance is lovely. Ella had to choose between handsome, mature, and established Christian or smart and friendly, but temporarily unemployed, Marco. They were both so charming, and even I had a hard time picking a favorite.

I loved the references to Smarty, a kind of AI similar to Amazon’s Alexa. The dog’s name was Marty, and it provided some amusing scenes.

Faking It is a hilarious romantic comedy about what really matters in life and a reminder that nobody is as perfect as they appear to be.

Highly Recommended!

Alright, are you looking for a laugh out loud, fun and lively romcom to take the winter blues away? I've got one right here from one of my favorite Boldwood authors, Portia MacIntosh.
Check this out….

Let’s see, first you start your apartment on fire, next you get evicted (even though the fire wasn’t your fault) and then get sacked from your job, all of this in the same day. Sounds like things are starting off pretty well huh? (note sarcasm) Then your twin sister who you’ve scarcely seen in years calls (you know, that twin who just “has it all” and is totally put together) and asks you to do her a favor and “take her place” for the next 6 weeks at her house because she needs to go away for a while without anyone knowing……what exactly would you do?

Well that’s exactly what happens to Ella, and when her twin sister Emma makes that call, Ella completely agrees to the plan. I mean how hard could it be to live the high life and take care of a niece and nephew she doesn’t even know? Easy peasy right? Not so fast……

There are no words to explain what a total delight reading this book was for me. Between the laugh out loud moments of Ella’s mishaps, the enchanting new “friend” Marco, the capricious teenagers she is now “mothering,” and the “Yummy Mummy Mafia” (don’t even ask), this book has got it all. Through this journey of misadventures, watching Ella find her way and figure herself out just ends up being the icing on the cake. Such an entertaining and satisfying read, I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down once you start, and when you do, I’m certain those winter blues will be gone.
Highly recommend!

Another book by Portia MacIntosh which I very much enjoyed. A very easy read with a really lovely message towards the end - life is what you make it and ensure the people around you know how you feel. A great book with an even better message💖

This was a very enjoyable read, light hearted and funny, with an unexpected twist at the end. The characters are delightful and there are quite a few laughing out loud moments.
Emma and Ella are identical twins, but lead very different lives. Ella has just managed to lose her home, car and job on the same day, when Emma (the successful twin) calls her and asks her to impersonate her because she needs to go away for a few weeks and can't afford to let other people know.
The storyline is different and peculiar, and it is very catching to follow Ella's character's evolution throughout the book.
This was my first Portia Macintosh's, and I fell in love with her writing!

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

According to the book there are three routes that a woman can choose from in life, the first - marriage & several kids, the second - giving all this up for the sake of a high flying career & the third - being in your 30's, unmarried, no kids, no husband, not owning your own home & jumping from job to job...guess which one I took! 🤦‍♀️

This book was so much fun to read! I'd seen several reviews about it, then found I could get it from Kindle Unlimited. Laugh out loud funny in places, lighthearted, full of fantastic characters, some relatable, some that just need a good shake! And I was not expecting that ending.

Twins Emma & Ellie swap lives for six weeks, what possibly could go wrong!
