I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. I joined the Air Force, and my career took me from coast to coast before depositing me in the St. Louis, Missouri area for several years. After a tour in Korea and a short return to the St. Louis area, I retired and moved to the greater Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. I write speculative fiction, mostly science fiction and fantasy. My favorite writers over the years have been Robert E. Howard, Philip K. Dick, Roger Zelazny, and Michael Crichton.
Sadly this is the last in the series! I've grown to like the gruff, grumpy and patient characters of the Kedraalian fleet; the ever suffering Satrap and his fleet of bickering competitive captains: and the other people who populate the series.
Faith Benson is Commander of the Kedraalian fleet and her mission is to ensure peace for her people. She is working alongside Thiessen (a Gulmar), to coordinate their two fleets while also working with the Azoren to succeed against the Khanate. Alongside all the military movements there are spy networks and plots and despotic leaders striving to maintain their positions.
I don't write spoilers, so to write a review that captures the breadth of this book is difficult. There is a lot happening which links back to the previous books and completes the picture of the key people in the books, no matter how things end for them.
Although the action never let's up, the characters are able to self-evaluate and wonder what could have been, whether they did the right thing.
I am very grateful to P. R. Adams for allowing me to read this series and hope that you will enjoy his creation as much as I have.
Overall, the series kept my attention. Descriptions of flawed individuals and flawed societies perhaps were too stark, yet the least flawed seemed to be victorious. Most issues were resolved, so that was good, although there is an opening and a sales pitch for a follow on series.
PR Adams has provided a great saga full of intrigue and action, and pulled out all of the stops for the finale. While all of them were enjoyable, this one cost me sleep at night - couldn't put it down. I wanted to see how it all ended, and it was quite an exciting read!
This is a fast paced series about an officer that had been sidelined in her career suddenly thrust into awful situations, where she must make the right decisions to keep herself and her crew alive, and defeat those who seek the destruction of her stellar nation…and the hidden manipulators pulling levers behind the scenes.
I loved the growth of the characters - good and bad - as they struggle to accomplish their missions throughout this series.
