Imagining Eden

Rate this book
If you want a concise, understandable account of The Panacea Society, written in a conversational style - this is it. Here is everything you ever wanted to know about The Panacea Society, a fascinating ornament of twentieth-century England. It is also a biography of Etholle, a fictional character who gets involved in the strange goings-on of the group. An occasional participant in Panacea life, she sees the Northern Lights, meets the Daughter of God, loves country dancing, sees the Jarrow Marchers, and writes her life's story ... or does she? There are references (real and imagined) to people and events in the history of Bedford. And just for fun, there are hidden quotes and references to songs, poems and books which you might find hard, or easy, to spot. This book is written by a volunteer at the Panacea Museum. The sale proceeds will be given to charities, including those concerned with mental illnesses.
