I loved this book. It was the first book of Lisa's I have read. I was intrigued from the very beginning of the story. I loved the plot and the relationship that developed between John and Chelsea. It was wonderful to read about a love like that. Lisa Heaton has a wonderful gift in weaving one's own journey of faith into each novel she writes. I am a much better person and Christian for having read her books. I have read all the books Lisa has written so far. I have stayed up all night reading her books and becoming so emotional, I couldn't speak. I look forward to her new book, Deceiver, being released in August.
This was a sweet fairytale story. I just love those. It was about a very wealthy, handsome widower who hired a young college girl to accompany him to social events. She had only a one year contract and it expired on 4/19. All I know is that I totally fell in love with the hero, John. He was a very successful businessman who totally fought against his attraction to Chelsea. Did she win his heart? You'll have to read it to see. I totally recommend this book and I know you will fall in love with John too. Who wouldn't?!
Such a heartfelt, romantic story about finding 'the One'. John and Chelsea are soul mates, but with a large age gap (he's 48 and she's 23) there is a huge amount of angst in their story. 'Should they or shouldn't they?' is the prevailing question with both showing the depth of their emotion and self-sacrifice for the other.
John is protective and enraptured by Chelsea's innocent yet mature personality and the way their purely platonic business relationship develops into deep and abiding love is beautiful. There is a lovely HEA.
This book is an inspirational romance and there are countless references to Christianity in the story. In reality, the plot would probably not work at all without the character's deep sense of morality and dedication to God. The idea that Chelsea would sacrifice her future with John to allow him to grow his spiritual side is impossible to grasp or justify unless the reader understands the deep motivation she has to see him build a relationship with Jesus.
This is a clean romance with no descriptive love scenes.
P.s. if you loved John and Chelsea together, DON'T READ THE SEQUEL. Their HEA doesn't last forever and it is devastating.
I loved reading John and Chelsea's story. I have a rule that I don't read romance stories because I don't like reading all the sex scenes in them. This book was recommended by a church friend when I asked for some idea's of good reads when I was down with knee surgery. It told a awesome romance story without the sex scenes. It made me smile and it made me cry. As a writer myself to me that is one of the greatest compliments. It's a very good book. Many years ago I went to a class that Lisa Heaton was teaching as a small group at our church. We were reading her first novel that had not been published yet. I must admit I sort of forgot about her after that since we no longer went to the same church. Now I will be reading all her books.
This was a beautiful "fairy tale" at first reading but one person's fairy tale is someone else's life story. The circumstances in which the couple meets is based on desperation(hers) and jadedness/practical (his); their age difference a quarter of a century. The author portrays the general bumps and turns in life; the importance of hope and faith and the role of life's values in relationship. The characters are quite real and the overall messages with some scriptural references makes for food for thought.
I am so happy a friend recommended this author. Absolutely amazing book with a clean love story that keeps you turning pages. I will definitely follow this author as I so appreciate a good Christian based storyline. Thank you Lisa Heaton. You have a committed follower. Keep these books coming!
This is a wonderful romance that kept me enthralled. This author has a definite gift and I look forward to reading more of her books. John and Chelsea star in this May-December Cinderella love story.
John watches Chelsea deliberately as she considers their agreement. Pleased to have found a woman too young to pique any personal interest and one who has aspirations of her own, he’s confident she will solve his dilemma of attending events alone.
I want to give this book another star so this should be more like 3.5 *. Parts seemed to drag a bit but then there were other nuggets of inspiration that made this a worthwhile read. There is a second book to this story and I will be reading it.
What a wonderful book! It had everything you want in a love story without a lot of filler material that involved the couple having sex. This was a story of how a couple came together out of convenience, fell in love, and then endured the pain of separation.
Your heart goes out to Chelsea and John as you begin to read their individual pasts and how they had been hurt by the ones they loved and who they thought loved them. Each took a separate path to begin healing and those paths brought them to each other. Chelsea's path was school in LA and her constant faith. John's path was building his business, in LA as well, but without the faith he had experienced in his home as a young boy. "On 4/19" you understand their agreement of no relationship outside of their contract and no expectations in one year when the contract ended--"On 4/19".
Be prepared to use a few tissues along the way. Your heart will break for each of them as you experience their heartbreak. You may also find yourself looking inside your own soul as Chelsea continues to trust in God and John begins his journey back to God and hopefully to Chelsea.
As totally as unheard of as my ability to fall speechless, as was this a "true" love story. Danielle Steele comes to mind with no disrespect to Ms. Heaton, but quite the opposite. She is my all time favorite romance author for as long as I can remember, I have NEVER compared ANY author to her until now!!!! In fact, the Christian aspect of this read may have put this author a bit over the top as that is my favorite genre. Not a thing I would have changed except the long period of time it took for Chelsea and John to finally work out their differences and individual growth and introspect to finally come to be one. The plot development, character defining, and consistent alignment of the story from beginning to end simply amazed me throughout. The strong sense of family was highlighted during the whole time and I really enjoyed that aspect especially for a character like John. A true 5 star and recommendations for this author puts me out there to look for more of her work.
I read through this in less than a day....even forgoing sleep to see how it ended. I'll admit that I was skeptical at first because of the age difference in John and Chelsea, but I thought the book does a good job of working through the initial ickiness of it and you end up with an amazing love story. Ultimately the heart wants what it wants, and I love that both Chelsea and John were willing to be their feelings aside because of their great love for each other. She knew that John would never seek out God if she stayed with him, and he knew that she deserved a husband that she could grow old with. Both were selfless and it was a beautiful story. To love someone so much that you would give them the best of you, no matter how long that would be is so romantic, and you can't help but route for them both. Lisa Heaton is a great author and I eagerly anticipate reading her next book!
2.5 stars! I really enjoyed the premise of this story, and there were so elements that I really enjoyed! Overall, I found it a bit predictable and forced. I liked the overall Christian theme/tone of the story, but something was missing for me in the connection/relationship of this couple. I felt so bad for Tuck, and hope that he gets his HEA! I think that the next book will focus on him, so I hope good things are coming his way.
I loved this book. Chelsea and John's story captivated me and I found I didn't want it to end. It was such a beautiful love story that shared such a wonderful message. Usually I gobble up books at speed of two or three a day, but with this book I took my time to really enjoy it. I was sad to see it finish and immediately picked it back up to read it through a second time. Waiting patiently on Beyond 4/20.
I truly enjoyed this book. I love a book where I miss the characters until I can pick the book back up again and catch up on what's going on in their lives. John and Chelsea's story was a fairy tale, reminding me of "Pretty Woman", only not so worldly. One of my favorite books was Unmending The Veil, so I was thrilled to find another book by the same author. Wonderful Christian theme, thoroughly entertaining.
What an arrangement! The Christian version of "Pretty Woman!" No attachments! The beginning of a wonderful story. It has everything you can imagine- love, rejection, redemption, amazing life styles of the rich and famous, secrets of small towns, old loves, greed, sacrifice, what else is there? God steps in. Incredible.
Love. It is the gift of all. The more love we give, the more love we react in return. Although this story was a bit farfetched, it still had a message of God's promises to those who seek Him.
I loved Chelsea and John. Watching them throughout their individual struggles had me feeling the same as they were at that moment. I was so happy when John "discovered" the love of Jesus. I definitely recommend this book.
Loved beyond words. Perhaps because of where I am in my journey. Love can be confusing and messy. But the love that results from absolute truth is the purest, freeing.
I read this after seeing the great reviews I've never really been interested in reading books with a strong Christian theme but this was a lovely fairy tale with strong beliefs and I kinda liked it
