Joe and Kate find two young children who were lost in the mountains. The mother of the children is dead, and the father is outlaw Ripper Connor, who leads a gang of murderers and robbers who are wanted by the law from Texas to Montana. When Collins learns where his children are, he will stop at nothing to reclaim them, even if it means burning the town of Bow River and killing everyone there. But Joe intends to stop him, aided by a local priest with a gunfighter past, and a mysterious man with no past at all. Has Collins met his match?
Brad was born in rural New England and grew up reading Louis L'Amour, Luke Short, A.B Guthrie, Jr., and even Edgar Rice Burroughs. He knew at 14 he wanted to write for a living, and refused to give up the goal even when the odds seemed overwhelmingly against it. Now, thanks to Amazon, his stories are now available. He is a member of the Western Writers of America
Brad fell in love with the Old West at a very young age. It began with movies and old TV series like GUNSMOKE and BONANZA, and later expanded to western novels. This led to his study of western history. The pioneers, the Indians, the cattlemen, the gunfighters. His interest in history is not so much about wars and great leaders, but the people who lived on the land. And that's what he writes about. The people. He doesn't write about the old west as much as he writes about what it might have felt like to be there.
He loves contact from readers. He can be reached by email at mccabewesterns@gmail.com if you want to discuss his stories, or even just the American West in general.
Joe McCabe and Katrina Compton if you all have read about the McCabe Men, you know e as wanted for murder, but what he did was kill the man who murdered his brother Matt's wife. He was aiming at Matt, but killed his wife. So Matt took care of him and with Kate headed to Canada to disappear. There's a bounty on both their heads, which was being paid by Samuel Compton because Joe shoot and killed his son. Joe and Kate have been running a long time and they have finally found a beautiful place and a town of nice people who aren't what seem to be. They all have a past which they left behind in the states. Joe discovers two kids in the forest Jimmy whose ten and Cissy eight their last name is Connor. They are the children of a notorious gang leader with a bounty on his head in the states. He and his brother were born in Chicago, Illinois, they lived in the streets as many kids did during those times. At the ages of fourteen and sixteen they join the First Illinois Brigade to fight with the Union. They left and joined up with Bloody Bill Anderson and later Quantrell's Riders. The reasons were these raiders murdered, looted and robbed they didn't care about the war, but could they profit from it, since the South wasn't able to. Besides the Connors liked that kind of life these gangs led. While in Kansas Ripper Conner went looking for wife and kids convinced them to come with him and the gang. I don't think she had much choice she cared about her children so now they are riding with gang. There mother get sick and the Ripper wouldn't go for a doctor because of his status and the cold got worse and she died. So now the two kids are tired of the way they are living, sometimes they don't get to eat or maybe wash their faces, can't do those things if the posses are running you. So they escape from their father, Jimmy had been planning this for a while, he feared his father if they got sick would let them die like his mother did. This a complicated western drama, lots of personalities are introduced with sketchy backgrounds...if you like the Johnny McCabe in Montana western adventures you'll enjoy reading this one about Joe McCabe..I hope we read more about his life in Canada with Kate, Jimmy, Cissy..oh can't forget Poe..
I have been fortunate enough to read most, if not all, of the McCabe books, but this one touches home. I am certainly impressed with Mr. Dennison and his very heartwarming releases that definitely are so fulfilling. The never ending excitement and thoroughness is very touching and exciting. Plenty of suspense, too!
Definitely worthy of the five stars, as the adventurous Joe McCabe leaves no stone unturned. These stories are so filling and there is a never ending stream of love and strength of fellowship throughout the entire story.I felt like part of exciting gunplay adventures from beginning to end. Mr. Dennison is a master author based on his selection of his characters and omnipresence of his storylines. Regardless of the many exciting gunplay throughout the entire story, there is definitely an air family-friendly activities, also. If you have never followed the McCabes, then this is a great beginning for all of you. I, without hesitation recommend this, and all of the McCabe series to all who love, and respect, our true old American folklore. These stories are fascinating, fulfilling and full of exciting western adventures! You loss of you fail to give Mr. Dennison a chance to prove himself.
My pattern of reading is to choose a mystery or World war 2 story, then a western, then repeat. Ultimately half of my reading is in a western. I began with the beginning of the McCabe stories and have stayed with them all the way. As I read each one, I feel a kinship with each of the McCabes. This story was the best of them all, in my opinion. In fact I think it is the best of all the western stories I have read. Then at the end of the story you described the process by which one becomes right with God through His Son Jesus Christ!!! Knocked my socks off ! Thank you for that, Brad. Can't wait for your next story. By the way, we have not heard from Dusty in a while except for a mention here or there.
Really great reading . Accurate and true . The story rings true and accurate . Don't miss the opportunity to read a great story !
This book is a great read . The characters fit together in this story of mountain life . All the great qualities of a great book lie within these pages ! The storyline is original and the facts of life in this book are truly believable and relatable . There are words of truth to live by , that have become life-changing too many . All the great qualities of a great read are waiting .
I have read all of Brad Dennisons books when they are first posted as being released and I really look forward to that first chapter,I relive the past books and the characters I have come to know and think of them as people I know, reading about Joe McCabe and Kate was like visiting old friends, catching up on what they have been doing and their adventures, looking forward to Brads next great read.
I was so glad to see this book, I always want to know "the end " of a book that I had previously read, the end of the first book was good, but there was just so much more left of the story to tell. I love the entire McCabe clan and all of their adventures. They are good peop!e in bad situations. They had to survive and fight to live the life of peace. BRAVO 👏👏BRAVO 👏👏
So sorry for your loss, Brad. I always enjoy reading your books, i know your parents are proud of your accomplishments! I am so glad you decided to write more books about the McCabes, It would have been awesome to live as they did in your books, the spirit of their journey through life allows e to be a part of their world for a few hours each day. May God bless and keep you.
I was so glad to read Joe finally found love and is settling down. I have always loved reading about the McCabe men. I look forward to these books to see what will happen next. The McCabe men seem to draw trouble even when they are not looking for it. Look forward to the next McCabe book. Thank you Brad Dennison for a awesome read.
might be better to say clear out of the mountain into the valley. Hard time sitting this down. Excellent story melding the past into the present -- of the story -- prompting a reading treasurer hunt for the answers. A real page Turner.
But Dennison has told both an adventurous and uplifting tale. The protagonists are worthy of sympathy and the antagonists of contempt. The story itself is worth the read and the ending is, I think, the author's best.
This is the best book in this series. A definite page turner and great characters that seem to reach out to you. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Would highly recommend this book to everyone that enjoys a great western series.
It is always with a bit of excitement that I begin a Brad Dennison novel. He has yet to disappoint me. And who doesn't enjoy a story about rescued children?
Joe McCabe is a mountain man, wanted and hiding out in the Canadian Rockies. He is living with the love of his life, Kate. They find two run away children and take them in as their own. The story is full of action, love and the grace of God.
I rated this book a 5 because it was an easy read. It had a story to tell about life good and bad and how people deal with life's challenges. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a good story.
This was the continuation of Wandering Man both were good books. In this one Joe and Kate find two lost children in the mountains. But the children belong to outlaw Ripper Collins who wants them back. It comes down to a show down in the town of Bow River.
This novel would suit any age, male or female. Having read all the stories about the famous MaCabe family just forms a foundation about who Joe is because he is a true McCabe!
I love these books and the author. I have read all of his books on the McCabes and love the series. I really hope there will be more books. This book was not a disappointment. Very exciting and well written.
Brad Dennison has told a good story. I think he has started something. Give it a look, if you like good Old West tales then you'll enjoy this one. I think though that Mr. Dennison has never driven from Brownsville to Stratford Texas it's a lot of nothing but Texas.
This book is about a group of people who were in trouble with the law in the United States and ended up in a small community in the mountains of Canada. They develop friend ship's make life better for each other.
I would tell anyone who likes real man westerns, good clean honest romance and truthful Christianity to read this book and the other McCabe books. Well written books. Fun to read. They just make sense.
A simple story of life in the mountains around the American Canadian border in the 1800s. Far too much religion for my taste.Im sorry l purchased 2 books by this author at the same time. Some people live and learn, others just live.
Good western in keeping with the McCabe saga. Good story line and well developed characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it along with all the other Brad Dennison tales.
Enjoyed this very much. He is one of my favorite authors of western novels and this was one of his better books. Especially enjoyed the description of the area, felt as if I was there.
As usual you have a hard time putting a book down once you start it. This book was written to bring all the characters alive and like you were there. Very good book. Highly recommend it.
I often wondered what happened with Joe and Kate and was relieved to read this book! I guess I was a bit disappointed for Pete but it was a very good story!
Western set n Canada but with a decidedly Christian bent to it. Action, shootings, bad men, saloon gals & much more. Flawed heroes, soiled doves, orphans are just part of the rich character list to be found in this Western. An enjoyable read with a good plot.
