Cute book for youngsters. Molly is part of the Pee Wee Scouts and Halloween is coming up. They get to pick out pumpkins and have a costume party. She has to get creative and make her own costume and offers to make Tim’s too so he isn’t left out. Tim is a little choosy beggar though. Molly is nervous about seeing her grumpy grandfather at the party at the nursing home but it all turns out okay.
These books are the reason I joined Goodreads like 10 years ago. I wanted to find this book series but couldn’t remember the name and had been unsuccessfully searching the depths of the interweb for years.
In 1st grade I had difficulty reading. Not difficulty learning to read but actually focusing long enough to read something through. This series is what changed that for me. These books made me fall in love with reading forever.
What makes all this even more cool is the way I found out the name of the series after searching so long. A complete accident, and all thanks to a childhood favorite of mine - Paul Reubens aka Pee-wee Herman! When he died earlier this year on July 30th, I looked for books of his here on Goodreads and thank goodness for autofill!, bc when I typed in “Pee Wee” it just so happened to show results for Pee Wee Scouts, too! Thank you Pee-wee <3
I was browsing the kids ebooks on the library site and saw this and thought, that looks familiar. And that's because I read this series when I was a kid. I'm glad they are still available. The covers have been updated, but its still the same story with drawings. I might have to read more from the series, relive childhood memories. This is a great read for kids now that its almost Halloween. There's pumpkins and costumes and lots of fun.
I read this series as a kid, and reread this title. I think it holds up pretty well. No, it's not great literature, but it's just right for the intended audience. I'm using it for a book discussion with 7 and 8 year old students.
