I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy...
That's where the story begins. Not the bottle, but a discussion about lobotomies. And neuro-psych major Melvin Frink, gets a compliment from his idol, the head of neuro-psychiatric surgery, Professor Stanton.
Afterward, Melvin will get on his bicycle to meet his mother for lunch, but an accident will put him in a coma for more than three years.
This opening chapter tells us a lot about the main character - meek and geeky - with an overbearing mother who controls every aspect of his life.
But when he finally wakes from his coma, he is angry. Very, very angry - a personality shift brought on by the trauma to his brain.
* Look, I can't blame him too much. I'm not a morning person either. In fact, when I wake up and I hear the song WALKING ON SUNSHINE, I feel like I want to take a baseball bat to the first perky person with a sunny disposition I see. So imagine how it must feel after three years!
But Melvin is about to take control of his life. And with his new sociopathic tendencies, he would go to any means necessary to achieve it.
Well, let's start with my general thoughts on this story:
It got incredibly dark incredibly fast. This is the type of story that will upset sensitive readers. And while it is not gory, it deals with some very dark subjects.
The fact that Melvin has this dysfunctional relationship with his mother is not rare in the world of murderers or serial killers.
What popped into my head early on was the case of the German cannibal Armin Meiwes. (No, this story is not about cannibalism). While his case was very controversial and made headlines world-wide, it was because his victim was willing to sacrifice himself - it can't really be called murder if you look at it from a certain point of view, but that's a different discussion for a different time.
The reason he popped into my head was because his mother was also overbearing and it was only after she died that he gave in to his fascination with eating another human being.
Of course, we can also look at Edmund Kemper, who ultimately killed his mother and nine other people, while also becoming a necrophile. He blames almost everything he has done and what he became on his mother, and her abuse of him.
But, in the end, there is an even more famous serial killer with which I can closely compare this story - Jeffrey Dahmer. And the reason for this is a simple one:
Like Dahmer, even though he had horrible urges and did awful things, at the end of the day, Melvin didn't want to be lonely anymore. You have to look very deep to find it, but there is sympathy for this character as well.
I liked this story, it just ended a little abruptly for my taste, but I can recommend it to psychological thriller readers who can handle the depravity.

Great book!!! Had me hooked from page one! Robert Clark, did an amazing job with this psychological thriller!! I was nervous while reading because the book was so good, that I thought for sure the end would let me down BUT nope!! Robert ended the novel so well, that I felt satisfied. This is a must read!

What a book!! I thoroughly enjoyed this read and there are so few writers out there that can take a story to the darkest depths of our imagination. The character Melvin develops throughout the story from a dismissible teen to a complete monster. This story will pull on most women’s greatest fears and you need a strong stomach to read it! Brilliant writing, kept me on the edge of my seat and unable to put it down. I will definitely be reading more of RWK Clark in the very near future!

Thrilling & Twisted!
This book was so twisted but so incredibly thrilling! It’s really was a deep dark book that made me annihilate it in a day or so! Being inside the Frink world was captivating, the details and descriptions on point. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author!

Mind blowing more than Mindless
My disclaimer: This book is NOT for the faint of heart, sensitive, squeamish or puritanical. Fact is, it is a very distributing, vicious, vile, a blatant sexually deviant portrayal of disturbed mother and son, but a very intriguing story. A real escape from reality for a worthy few hours of time.

I loved this book the storyline was amazing. Once I started I couldn't put it down. Not the type of book everyone would enjoy as it can be pretty gruesome. If you enjoy psychological thrillers with a twist this is the book to read.

Intriguing
A fully enjoyable read. Going from a nerdy student to a aggressive angry psychotic young man was brilliantly done. Learning his personality before and after was great. The more you read the more you come to understand him and his persona. All round good read.

Rushed finish
I was enjoying this book but I felt the end just came suddenly like it was rushed to meat a deadline. 80 percent is where it finished on the Kindle app on page 199.

In true Clark style, he has manufactured this story around the stuff of your worst nightmares. It's not the best written book. It is also contrived and very convenient - take one medical student with a warped mind and evil, angry thoughts and an interest in lobotomy, throw in a crematorium (who lives in a home which has a disused crematorium as it's basement?) and an over-bearing mother and you start to get a feel for what this book is all about.
However, when all is said and done, it's surprisingly good and you can't stop yourself from reading it. So if horror is your genre of choice and you want a story to feed your imagination, then this is the book for you.

Wow! What a book!
Yes, wow, what a book! Melvin, basically is a nerd, a smart nerd! He has a tumultuous relationship with his mother. She want him always, under her thumb. Mel is in his way home, for lunch one day, when he is hit by a falling steel beam. He undergoes surgery, falls into a coma and "awakes" the morning he is to be sent home with his mother..And here the real story begins! A great story, though a.strong stomach is advised !

INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE!
This story was about a crazy woman and how she tortured and ruined her son's life. How he was unable to get away from her UNTIL his brain was injured; which sadly made him a crazy man who tortured and ruined lives. A sick circle INDEED!
The ending was rushed, so rushed in fact, that I didn't think it was real.

Wow what a grizzly story just shows haw much a damaged mind from abuse from a life of abuse can affect a person and the horrific injury he suffered and at the hands of his mother !!and what horrific acts people will do for money .The author really gets in the head of the damaged brain !!

Creepy Read
This was a story that kept me interested but I did not like the ending. I wanted more detail on the characters not just Denise.
Melvin is a character that could be walking, living, or working next to us everyday. His mother is one that could be doing the same.
As the saying goes, money talks and bs walks!

This book was so good ! I really loved the storyline. The plot and the characters were so easy to like and get to know. I loved the way this book made me giggle a little here and there and then horrified me. I was thinking about this book long after. The fact people can be like this in real life scared me! But this is definitely a good read for sure! Highly recommend.
