When Nickie receives a plea for help she does what any young rebel on a sabbatical would do. She Ignores it. Little does she know quite who and what happen to follow the message. One volcanic labyrinth, a rock monster, and a hike with a new team later she finds herself on a new mission of her own. And this time, she has no idea what's in store for her. Meanwhile her Aunt Tabitha's diary tells the tales of escapades that serve as lessons and warnings about allowing ones' preconceptions to flavor Tabitha's assumptions. For Hirotoshi and Ryu, it's a full time job to keep Ranger 2 on the straight and narrow while not rounding up the one alien Tabitha is absolutely positive is responsible. Plus, there are fights. Because, with Tabitha around, there are always fights.
Relapsing theoretical physicist, professional geek, sci fi novelist, and Doctor Who fan.
Though she is originally from England, she is mostly what her friends call a “digital nomad”, hanging in whichever country calls to her… as long as it has good wifi, and coffee.
Another Wild Deuces story from the incomparable Ell Leigh Clarke with Nickie and Tabitha. So good! Nickie and Tabitha engage in two exciting adventures, each one engaging. Nickie unexpectadly matures in this book and her story becomes even more interesting. Highly recommended. Thank you Ellie and Michael for another great read.
I guess we all have prejudices and preconceived notions about various things. The important thing is not to let ourselves be blinded by them, and to be open to new information. I love how Tabitha's story is intertwined with Nickie's, and the lessons they are both learning. It's also great to see strong personalities growing. Another excellent story!
I loved this book. I found it very like my fave adventure movies, the Indiana Jones' series, which is fantastic, as I could watch those films forever!
I've always loved those kind of adventure stories, no matter what kind of genre they might be written in, and you can't get more adventurous than travelling deep in a volcano that's about to erupt! Lol
I really hope that Nickie, and her slightly more extended crew, will meet up with John again, as I feel he'll be very good for her.
One thing I'm really loving about all of these books, is the sharing of Tabitha with us. I love her as a character in her own right, and often wish I could be more like her, than the polar opposite that I actually am, but, apart from Bethany Anne, Tabitha has been my favourite heroine, and now I have Nickie, to add to that rather exclusive group!
I am really happy that the next book that I read, is actually book four of this series: Birthright, as I've really been enjoying reading this whole series without a pause.
This can be good, especially as taking a break to read a different series can be difficult with my memory problems.
But then, I also enjoy seeing the wider view that's shown to me by reading these various series chronologically, as the overview I get, makes the whole of The Kurtherian Universe, even more of an amazing experience than it has been already.
So, I'm off now, to see how Nickie's adventures end (sob)!
This KU library selection is a continuation of the KG KE satellite series Deuces Wild about Tabitha and Nickie. The name of Nickie's appropriated spaceship is The Penitent Granddaughter, which seemed a misnomer until this book. But her EI and crew have been diligent in their calling her on her reckless behavior, to the point it sometimes resembled angsty timeouts and mini counseling sessions. I haven't yet come across her early years backstory other than snippets of information, so am still putting that together. But even with all that, I'm still enjoying the series and am moving on to book four.
Having read most of the books since Death Becomes Her, this is one of my favorite series.
We get to see a new side of Tabitha, and learn more about the Kurtherian Universe.
I would rank the series from best to least as Bethany Anne Terry Walton/Bad Company Deuce Wild/Michael Returns Vigilante Molly Valerie (Reclaiming Honor)
All of the series have great characters and fun stories, some are just more connected to the core series than others.
I enjoyed reading this book, there are more characters joining the cast. Prince Prissy Pants turns out to be a pretty good guy. The action is plentiful and Nickie has to question her own immediate dislike for other species, specifically the Skaine. Adding family members, those who support you without question, not only provides entertainment value to the crew, but also removes some of the burden. My only complaint is that the book is short. I'm grateful that the next book is already on queue.
Both Nickie and Tabitha grow personally in this story. Love the interaction between Tabitha and her sidekicks Hirotoshi and Ryu. Tabitha comes to realise that preconceived prejudices do not always ring true and she needs to listen to her team more. Nickie has big personnel growth in her adventure to the volcano. She is not an invincible individual everyone needs help and teamwork. You are hoping at the end it might be time to reconnect.
I am really enjoying this series with both Nickie and Tabitha 's view points. There is lots of action in the book on both their parts, along with humor and emotional growth. The storylines really keep your interest and I like the way both of the storylines are resolved by the end of the book. Cannot wait to read the next book.
Nickie evolves as she experiences truth and her Aunt Tabitha's experiences as related in her diary. Preconceptions are found to be inaccurate by both. I like the action, snarky humor, and character development. Will Nickie find romance with the Prince? Will she even see him again? I look forward to the next book.
Nickie and her growing company help John on his quest. No one knows what will happen or what they will encounter but they will encounter but they don’t seem to care!! Read to find out what happens!!
From start to finish, what a rollercoaster ride. Action, adventure and feelings. As a British person I can relate to Nikki so I'm loving these book's. Please keep writing them.😀
Nice read and as always a lot of fun. Nickie meets a prince and sets off on an adventure. Lots of daring do. Add to it that she adds to her crew and we have some major changes to her life. Looking forward to more.
So glad Nikki is finally realizing she has let others in. Maybe she is getting over her being upset at the federation and John. Man interest and Nikki what a pleasant surprise.
Nickie does a lot of personal growth in this book by expanding her crew and building relationships. The book starts with her still keeping to herself but after spending a few weeks getting the mining colony back up and running with food and water for self sufficiency and it's during this time she starts to heal so it will be interesting to see how her relationships with her new and old crew.members
