Murder in the Forecast

Rate this book
GONE WITH THE WIND

With a signed contract in hand for remodeling the grandest old house on the island, contractor Josie Pigeon figures her summer is made. But before she can lift a hammer, she finds her new employer–wealthy New Yorker Cornell Hudson–murdered on the premises with a strip of drop cloth twisted tightly around his neck.

When Hurricane Agatha sweeps away both the house and the body, Josie would like to forget she ever saw them. But she can’t help wondering: What could have drawn Hudson and his megamillions to this quiet summer resort? His three gorgeous blonde daughters hate the place and Hudson seems to have known not a soul on the island. But appearances have never been more deceptive. Now, through rain and wind, and through a past that refuses to die, Josie pursues the truth–and nails down a killer who is tougher than boards.

The Josie Pigeon mysteries are a delight. This book was a bit different from the others in that less time was spent on one construction site and solving a mystery, and more time on looking for the victim, and overall damage vs one location. Valerie Wolzien actually has two series, and I love both. Very talented author.

I picked this up as a freebie at the swap shop at my dump. I didn't realize until I got home that I also got another by the same author, but in a different series. I enjoyed this. Josie Pigeon is a contractor on an island. She is excited to be renovating an old home, a local landmark. When a hurricane looms on the horizon she rushes to the house to grab her tools. She sees a body but after the storm the house and the body have been washed away.

She and a friend begin investigating, starting with the late owner's 3 rich, beautiful, spoiled daughters.

3.5 Stars. I enjoy the Josie Pigeon series and find it very easy to read. This was a bit different as a hurricane hit the island and the characters were dealing with the clean up. The murder was there but never seemed like a big focal point until the very end of book and the solution just seemed to be handed to Josie. Still a fun read.

I like this series about Josie Pigeon who has an all female construction crew and becomes involved in murder. There always seems to be someone in her crew that has something to hide and she's the last to know. Fun little read.

Barrier islands and hurricanes don't mix. Hurricane adds extra spice to this 5th in the series and my favorite so far. Lots of secrets and a murder to investigate.

The best part about this was the fact that there's a hurricane and the setting takes place on the Barrier Islands. Other than that, the murder didn't seem to be the focal point of the story which made me feel as if I were reading a story that someone just happened to write and threw a murder in to add drama to the overall plot. Because it was never the focal point, the ending seemed superfluous and unlikely - which, again, removes the charm of a typical cozy mystery.

Other than that, Josie Pigeon is a delightfully written character. I enjoyed how her construction crew consisted solely of just women.
