1. none 2. K-3 3. This book starts off by defining what a spider is. The book continues to go through all of the different features of a spider compared to other animals while introducing some vocabulary words that go along with their features. The book finishes up by talking about spider reproduction and at the end they attached a glossary of all the new vocabulary words they introduced. 4. Personally, I did not enjoy this book. I found this book to be quite redundant and bland in its delivery of information. I did, however, think that the pictures were interesting. 5. The main use of this book in the classroom that I could think of is in a science lesson. This book does a great job of introducing some new science vocabulary throughout so perhaps it would be a good read-aloud to start a science lesson about insects so that the children have this new vocabulary under their belt. This vocabulary could also then tie into a literacy lesson.
I think that this is a good book for second graders. I think this is great for science lessons and for group projects. I like the real illustrations used in the book instead of animated illustrations. There are good facts about the spiders as well. I think it is good that they show up close images and show the different textures of the spiders. I really like at the end of the book there is a glossary for students to locate words and definitions that they didn't understand. I love the comprehension questions because this gets the students thinking and is good for small group discussions.
Genre: Informational Grade: K-2 Although I don't like spiders, this was an awesome book to learn more about spiders. This is also a great tool for students who are learning how to read. I would recommend having this in the classroom.
