Mummies. Egyptian Gods. Adventure. What more could a girl ask for?
Delilah Jackson has worked all her life to earn the adventure she's always wanted. Being chosen as one of the Lead Archeologists for a new discovery in Egypt is a start, or so she thinks. It’s all supposed to be her moment in the history books, but one misstep sends her into a whole heap of trouble.
Now, four Egyptian Gods are claiming she's some sort of Herald and she's stuck right in the middle of a civil war. A war lord and his militia are determined to control the Gods, and they want to use her to do it.
If only those Gods would stop looking at her as something more than the geeky archeologist who likes to dig up stuff, she might be able to focus on the mummies, the war, and staying alive. And the beetles. Don’t get her started on the beetles.
Delilah always wanted an adventure just like the movies. Where's Brendan Fraser when you need him?
**Pharaoh-mones is a WhyChoose romance, which means the leading lady doesn't have to choose. Get ready for your next adventure!**
Kendra Moreno is secretly a spy but when she’s not dealing in secrets and espionage, you can find her writing her latest adventure. She lives in Texas where the summer days will make you melt, and southern charm comes free with every meal. She’s a recovering Road Rager (kind of) and slowly overcoming her Star Wars addiction (nope!), and she definitely didn’t pass on her addiction to her son (she did). She has one hellhound named Mayhem who got tired of guarding the Gates of Hell and now guards her home against monsters. She’s a geek, a mother, a scuba diver, a tyrannosaurus rex, and a wordsmith who sometimes switches out her pen for a sword.
If you see Kendra on the streets, don’t worry: you can distract her with talks about Kylo Ren or Loki. #LokiLives #BringBackBenSolo

Marking this as a DNF at 20%. Way too many spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors - and the first one is on the first page! Too many words used incorrectly. Too many awkwardly written and repetitive sentences. The main character is supposed to be a highly educated person with a PhD and I just don’t see it. I did like her interactions with Jessica and Dan, but that’s really it. Dan is the only character who seems to have any real experience or expertise with archaeology and everyone else seems borderline useless!?! I really wanted to love this book, because I preordered it and I had been looking forward to it for months. I just can’t get past all the dang errors or suspend my disbelief long enough to enjoy the book.
Edit: I was incredibly bored and I decided to go back to this book so I could hopefully delete it from my brain forever. It's still a 1 star or less for the same issues listed in my original review, but I have some to add; "vague" writing and name dropping The Mummy movie franchise, the actors within said franchise, and Tomb Raider at various points. I'm considering using purposefully vague terms as a way to avoid actually having to describe things as "vague" writing. It feels lazy when every other description is "somehow this happened" or "it was something like a blah blah." The name dropping of the characters from The Mummy movies felt like the author was using that as a replacement for actual character development. I actually feel like I no longer love the movie because I got to the point where I wanted to scream every time anything was mentioned about that series, the characters, or the actors. Comparing so many scenes to movies was also weak. The Tomb Raider reference was just awkward. The character's name is not "Tomb Raider," but "Lara Croft."
Last thing: by the end of the book, I only liked two characters more than I did during the first 20%; Jessica and Dan. The sex scenes were okay, but definitely can't pull this book above the 1 star category.
Two books stood out at me when I was looking for new stuff to read, this one and Treble maker. Funnily enough they were both by the same author. I started Treble maker but wasn’t in the mood for the abusive relationship. I have read Rexes and Robbers, which is the only book I’ve read from this author so far. I finally got around to reading this one.
I’m rating it a low 4 stars because I did enjoy the characters but I couldn’t get into the story. I was still aware I was reading a book and kept checking what percentage I was on. It took a while for the story to get going and for me that didn’t happen until the gods’ introduction.
Del wasn’t a strong character, she felt like a sacrificial damsel in distress with a stubborn streak. She was also overshadowed by Jessica, who was pretty much a bad ass that could do anything, whilst Del fangirled.
There is a lot of Mummy and Brendan Fraser worship. The girls want their Rick. I liked the gods, they were pretty typical personality wise. Horus fighting the attraction, Anubis the voyeur worried sex will kill, Thoth the kind and knowledgeable except with condoms, Sobek my favourite and a flirt. All four bound to Del.
It was pretty much Sobek and Jessica that made this story enjoyable, throwing in a few funny moments. Jessica telling every god she sees she’s single was entertaining, as was when she hugged Anubis. For a standalone it was enjoyable and nicely wrapped up. Couldn’t read anymore if it was a series.

I'm such a fan of Kendra Moreno and love all things mythology, especially Greek and Egyptian, so when I heard about this book being written, I was pumped! I knew that I could trust the author to write a captivating story that would steal my heart and bring back that feeling I had when I watched the Mummy as a child.
And I wasn't disappointed!
One of my favorite parts of the novel was the Mummy references. Not only were they SO relatable, but they were also funny and came at the perfect moments in the book that needed some humor/comedic relief. Not only was the humor spot-on, but the romance was just **sighs** so adorable. I have such a soft spot for scholars in books, so Thoth was my favorite of the guys. But I also had a crush on Sobek because you got to love a god that can make you laugh. And Anubis was just swoon-worthy. Okay, I want them all. I can, right?
All-in-all, this book was another winner for me! I can't wait to see what the author has in store for us in the future. Highly recommend, especially if you enjoy some mythology with your RH romances :)
Don't let the reviews fool you; this book holds some truly atrocious grammar, writing, and characterization. No quality control or editing to be found - there are numerous grammatical and structural mistakes on the first page! Even a quick pass through Grammarly or Word would have substantially improved the quality.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I have since bought the book as well. I love the attention to detail that Ms. Moreno put into the book when it comes to Egyptian mythology and archeology. The descriptions of the dig and beginning stages of exploration were so cool. I could feel Delilah, Jessica and Dan's excitement ad they began to explore. It was catching and I wanted to be right with them exploring and leaning. I loved the friendship between Delilah and Jessica and watching it grow from "co-workers" to the best of friends. Like Delilah, I can't wait to learn more about Jessica. There are not enough words to describe Anubism, Sobek, Thoth and Horus. With way that Ms. Moreno described them, their appearance and attitudes, their transformations - I could totally close my eyes and see it. Bastet sounded absolutely beautiful and Khepri sounded interesting (but I have to agree with Delilah- a little creepy with all of the bugs). I hope that there will be a follow up book, or a spin off for Jessica.
Kendra has done it again, she makes books like addictive as soon as you read one, you NEED more. This one is no different, for the ones who are planning to read this you're in for a treat, for the ones not planning to read this do it it! You'll love it.
This book is about Delilah going on a dig? to a newly discovered Piramide in Egypt. Where the questions are starting to pile up as soon as they arrive at the hotel and the adventure starts there! If you love The Mummy, romance, Egypt, piramides, and gods this one is for you!
I bought this as soon as it came out & have been saving it to pull me outta a book slump. Boy, did it ever! I can't believe I waited this long to read it! It's absolutely fantastic! This book is for all of us who watched The Mummy & wanted to be Rick or Evie! I can't say enough good things about it! I would love to see more from Delilah & the guys & Jessica & Dan & the other gods! It was amazing start to finish! Only complaint is I selfishly wish it longer so I could stay in this world longer.
If you’re a fan of The Mummy (starring Brendan Fraser) or even just Egyptian mythology and enjoy Why Choose romances, then this was written for you! The characters are charming and hot, and the side characters are so fun that I hope they get their own stories too. Have a box of tissues nearby just in case, Kendra Moreno does know how to extract tears here and there, but overall be prepared for a great adventure.
Yeah, there were a couple editing errors, but holy Moses was that fun!
As someone who grew up obsessed with Egyptology, this just hit every nail. I wish it were longer. Like, I’d have been super happy with the contents of this book being a trilogy, but I also thing the length helps keep it so fun. I wanted *more* in the best way.
I am new to this author. I stumbled upon this book and found the premise so interesting that I had to buy it. This book was the perfect mix of mythology, mystery, war, love and The Mummy ala Brandon Frazier with puns only those of us true lovers of the franchise could appreciate! Dear goodness the battle was perfection! Those beetles! This book here had it all! Highly recommend! 10 stars!
“Life was strange, but it was always an adventure. It was best not to shy away from the adventures, because you never knew what you’d find on the other side. Take the risk, put your heart on the line, and in the end, it might all work out or it might not. But the most important part of it all. . .
. . .was that you lived.”
Not my most favorite of her stories, but still so good! I love The Mummy references, and Brendan Fraser, and Anubis the god, so this was a cute, perfect read!
OMG!!!! This is my favorite Kendra book! And that is a lot to say because I love everything she writes but this one was amazingly good!!! My favorite topic is Egypt and this book has egyptian mythology, egyptian Gods, magic, PNR and RH, and on top of it, It is filled with action!! I really hope we get at least two more books on this world, big stress on "at least". Kendra: I love you girl!!!!
Kendra is a magical genius! This book was hands down, the best book I have read. I say this because I have a huge love for all things Brendon Fraser, The Mummy and Egypt. If you love those things as well and want an amazing story to sink into, I highly recommend this one!
This book was over the top, fantastical, fan-girling-over-Brendan-Frazer, cheesy goodness. Ms. Moreno was not kidding when she said it was reminiscent of The Mummy and who didn’t love Rick and Evelyn? Delilah and her gods are delicious, Jessica is an awesome badass and there’s a ton of action. It’s a far-fetched tale with a great plot and was a very enjoyable read.
This was actually a really good story. Very different play on Egyptian mythology. Storyline was really different from other books I have read in the past and that’s a good thing. Kendra Moreno really knocked it out of the park with this one. If you have ever seen the movie Mummy you will be able to see some of the references in book. Fabulous story. Definitely recommend
For me it was a bit of a slow start but once it took off I was completely hooked. I loved that Delilah wasn't a stereotypical heroin. She grew into what was needed but started with knowing that she was under qualified but didn't let it stop her at all. This was a really easy read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I loved it so much I wish there were more like it! We get other mythologies quite a bit but this is the first RH I’ve stumbled upon so far with the Egyptian gods and I really liked it. I hope there will be more to the series or an add-on to this novel universe even with other characters!
This was such a fun book! It should be considered a must read for any lovers of the Mummy movies! I absolutely loved all the mentions of the movie throughout the book, it was such a great way to remember and acknowledge these fantastic movies.
This will definitely become a favourite go to for rereads!
Mummies, Scarabs, and Egyption Gods oh my! Loved the humor and the characters in this story. Scorching sexy times and the reminder love does conquer all. So glad I devoured this and would love to get Jessica's story
I loved the whole Egyptian mythology, archeology and The Mummy references! Delilah was a great character and her Gods were sexy and awesome. Enjoyed the storyline as well. Fun read.
where to start?! ... truly fell in love with this book and couldn't put it down ... Delilah is an intelligent, strong, fabulous archeologist who gets her big break in Egypt ... but who could’ve guessed what was hiding inside the pyramid and the evil that was lurking in plain sight
I really enjoyed reading this book so much I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I love the characters and the world they are built around. I would definitely recommend reading this book.
I honestly have no words to describe this book. It was pretty racist, and despite being a book about archaeology, the author clearly knows nothing about it.
