Contributors examine what is possible when knowledgeable teachers bring reading and writing together so that students may engage in and enjoy both, and discover what the authors and readers of a variety of genres actually do.
This is an older collection of essays edited by Nancie Atwell. I have also been reading a lot of other Workshops books right now, so much of this was redundant within that context; however, I really enjoyed the essays about integrating science, reading, and writing (this is something I'm very interested in personally) and the essay about teaching using Nancie Atwell's ideas about Poetry. I've added the former text to my "To-Read" list. Most likely, it will be on my winter or next summer's "to do list."
I always LOVE hearing about what other teachers are doing out there and seeing if anything they do would work for my kids, in my classroom. I loved the author interview and articles and cant wait for Vol. 2. I would have prefered more teachers that taught middle school (ofcourse)but the stuff that the elementary kids were doing was so cute! makes me rethink going into elementary, but nah, I love my crazy middle schoolers!
